I've seen comments in the News Section of GTP, on the Subaru BRZ article. A lot of people say and agree that the BRZ is Subaru's first-ever FR car (Front-engined, Rear-wheel drive). Main reason is that Subaru mainly produces 4WD cars. People need to be enlightened :sly::D Yes it's true, the BRZ is not Subaru's first FR car. It is the FHI P-1 / Subaru 1500. In fact, it is also the very first car produced by the automotive division of Fuji Heavy Industries.

That doesn't surprise me. I would be very surprised if the BRZ was their first FR car, AWD was unheard of in road cars before the 80's, with the sole exception being the Jensen FF.

Interesting little car, though, thanks for sharing!

IMO it wouldn't have been surprising that they've never done FR before. Before Subaru turned to AWD, they were known for their small cars and small cars have generally utilized either FF or RR because having the entire drivetrain at one end of the car leaves more room for passengers and cargo. I wouldn't have been surprised if the BRZ was their first FR vehicle.
