so it wont let me sign into online races is i dont pay up for ps+ is anyone else having the same q? i dont want to pay $60/year for a game i already paid $70 for. total joke. talk about a bait and switch. im not even going to try and gold the challenges/etc. for sale... thx sony

Literally all online multiplayer games on the PS4 require PS Plus and have done since 2013.
 
i have never had this before. gta v online doesnt do this. i have a few more that never have. heck, this game didnt require it for the first month or so. i got gts day before release and it just did this last night. arizona time about 9pm

GTA online most definitely requires ps+, its no different than any other PS4 game in that regard
 
my japan ps+ free month (ish) ran out maybe yesterday. but thats on another acct. maybe i.l just do another one i guess and maybe it will work. i only really play on this account.

/edit: i have gta v on the ps3 and ps4 and never been prompted. i guess i can try it again, but no other games i have requested it

That would do it:
You need to be a member of PlayStation Plus or have a local user account on the subscriber’s ‘Primary PS4’ to play many games online.

How is Polyphony Digital baiting you into buying PS+? They are not Sony and do not receive a direct profit when a player buys a PS+ membership
 
It's like buying gas from a mobil station or an exxon station. May be technically separate corporations, but it's the same thing. Same thing as buying a car from your wife or you. Why don,t they make games for anything other than a playstation? Anyways, I got it fixed. Again, thanks for the help.
 
Your free PS+ expired. TBH even on PS3 which had free online play I was PS+ member. Honestly it is worth more than you pay with free games and available as long as you are PS+ member.

Because they are a wholey owned first party Sony studio.

Actually, PS+ on PS4 is BS compared to PS+ when PS3 was new. Back then I could download proper titles almost every month. Including AAA games. PS+ on PS4 consists of mostly indie games that nobody wants to pay for.
 
i agree ball. i just went and signed up. I guess my $70+ game just cost me an extra $65. Good thing im not a kid trying to buy this on paper route money. I guess it's more the point than the money, but I do agree most ps4 games that are free are mostly worthless. I did get 'four kings casino' that I have enjoyed and thats free. I did decide to keep it (edit: gts) and am looking forward to some of the updates. I guess I will go back and try and gold everything after my friend leaves next week. I dont agree with having to pay tax to a foreign company over the web though. oh well, what's another $5 to the man.

I don’t think that holds true so much anymore. We’ve been getting lots of big budget games lately. The reason why it wasn’t as good before is when PS+ launched the PS3 was already four years old and thus many older games to select from.
 
There are some gems that come through PS+ every so often, but it's certainly not as good as it used to be.

That said, I have got Rocket League, Metal Gear Solid, That's You and an Assassin's Creed title for free over the past 12-24 months, which have easily recouped the cost of my PS+ subs - AND I get to play online with lots of you lovely people :D

Every full PS4 title has always required PS Plus for online multiplayer, from the moment the console launched in 2013:

For my experience, both are right. Didn't have PS+, despite having PS4 by 2+ years by now. Until now, the games I had, offline playing was enough (I get motion sick playing PCars).
Of course, in the current state of GTS, after a couple of days, I realized I needed PS+. And PStore allows you to have kind of trial on PS+ (14 days, I think). Then I bought PS+.
But lav01 maybe caught the 14 day free trial period and then the 5 day free period of PS+ given to all the user with european PS accounts starting on November 15th. If he has an european account, with some lucky coincidences on dates, we could use for free PS+ for almost 3 weeks straight.

Ok, forgot to edit his quote. Was referring to the part he said he was able to play without a PS+ account for about a month. The game came out a month ago, the Sport Mode isn't available until you reach one specific level, I think, so we wasn't required PS+ for some days in the game. Just that.

Which isn't true. You need a PS Plus account to play online multiplayer in full PS4 titles. We even established that he did, in fact, have a PS Plus account, via a free month, on a Japanese account on his console.

Stating that he never needed PS Plus to play online multiplayer in GT Sport, and other titles on the PS4 never required it either, is factually wrong.

Almost as wrong is stating that PD is baiting players to buy PS Plus. Aside from the fact that PD has no control over Sony policy, all full PS4 games have required PS Plus to play online multiplayer since 2013; it's absolutely ludicrous to suggest that a game studio that didn't release any title of any kind until September 2017 is somehow culpable for that policy.

Which also isn't true. You simply watch the Racing Etiquette videos, fill in an email address and the Daily/FIA races are right there for you at level 1, 0xp...

Those days were this weekend, from November 15th-20th. GT Sport launched four weeks earlier, and required a PS Plus account for any online multiplayer throughout - as did every other full PS4 title - so saying it didn't need PS Plus for "the first month or so" is wrong, and saying "gta v online doesnt do this" (sic) is also wrong (assuming it's the PS4 title and not the PS3 one).

Basically there is no "right" to any part of his posts.

I would say that $60 a year is a bargain. Online always for PS4 games was announced at E3 so sony gave a heads up that ps plus would be required. What i will like with ps plus are the free games released per month. I am purchasing ps plus around christmas and first time to ps plus for me. It is a bargain considering how much we would have to pay for full games if they weren't released for free.

That is so not true.
Don't think Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is mostly a indie game. Yes, is a two year old game, but was a award winning a nominated game in several prizes, for best game for PS4 and best adventure/action game.
And you must consider they still offer games monthly for PS3 also.
 
I do have a European account and a japan account, but the one I really use is my American account. I live in Arizona, America. I never have needed a ps+ subscription until now. I bought GTsport on october 16th and was playing online within about a day. Initially could not really get races and then was just trying to get the 15 no touch race goal. So, I have not tried super hard to qualify or win which will change once I get the 15. The most I have earned is 13. I hate having some random hit me when I am trying to let everyone by to get a clean race. I did sign up for ps+ on my regular account though. I just do not like it. I only play a few games and I do not think it is right. My kids are not stupid and little so most of those games are worthless to me. I did play GTAv online on both my ps3 and ps4 (yes, I own both copies) and gtsport for the first month or so without ps+ on either system. I did do the 14 day trial on my japan account. I did do the 14 trial on my American account when the ps4 first came out. I just did the japan trial to get the demo. I have played plenty of online games and never been prompted to buy it before. I have owned my ps4 since just after release. gtav nope, madden, nope, ea golf, nope. I have played them all online and never been forced to ps+. And yes, gtsport for the first month or so.

Every full PS4 title from 2013 onwards has required PS Plus to play online multiplayer. Every single one of them.

If you have not needed PS Plus you have not been playing online multiplayer on PS4.
