I think I will try this...

I havent read the whole thread so sorry if this has been covered, but will a frame refresh be allowed? what tires must we use? is ASM and TCS allowed?

No, no chassis refresh, unless you pay for it out of the budget. ;) Tires will be whatever your car comes with or whatever you want to pay for. ASM and TCS will be allowed...I was hoping against it, really, but how can I enforce that?

What do you guys think about having just a single class with a budget of maybe 7500? I think it may bring more people in and simplify it a lot, like people seem to want.

How about this... For a each drive train there is a budget that will include the price of the car. For a rwd car with the price of the car, $45,000. For an awd car $30,000 with the price of the car. For a mr car $35,000. For an rr car $40,000. For a FWD car $50,000.

something along those lines maybe?

What type of class were you thinking?

By class, I mean budget, like I have in the first post.

Guys, I want to get a head count for how many people are interested in this and I want a number of classes. I can see my original divisions aren't going to work out, so I need your guy's input so I know what I should run to get the most people interested. I may have to delay this for about a month to get this stuff sorted out.

Unless you can come up with a set list of cars or type of cars for each class I will not be joining.

I think there should be 3 classes. One for type of car like economy, sports and super sports or simply drivetrain (ff,rwd, awd,mr.)

I'm still interested. I'm more concerned that it be limited to one race per week rather than the number of classes used. I liked the idea of a lump sum budget (to include the cost fo the car) without any restrictions for it's use (except maybe no NOS). I also think you should not allow TCS/ASM. Even though there's no way to enforce it (or does the flickering blue light show up in replays?) I believe in the integrity of the competitors. The cars are slower with TCS/ASM anyway. The trick would be to balance tire expense with HP to find the sweet spot where you're getting the most for your $. I really don't care about the number of classes, even just one would be OK. I don't see where it's necessary to list or restrict cars allowed. The budget will really do that all by itself. This type of competition would take brains (relative to car / part selection) as well driving ability...a nice fair mix.

Relative to start date I would like some time (about 1 month) to decide on my car(s) & parts selection once things have been finalized so I can test at the correct budget levels...unless maybe we can submit a list of say 5 cars and then submit the best time from any of those cars for a given event...the best car might vary depending on a specific venue.

Do we have to post a replay? I dont have whatever I need to do that.

I've got a question, why does the first post of every page have an advertisement in it? Even when I'm signed in, plus the sponsors area is empty whenever the advertisement is in the post.

We're all talking about this is in the site feedback section.

I'm in man, just let me know what ,when and where, ya'll can figure out the class dealie without my input, I just wanna race! I'll go along with whatever you hash out.

I believe we have a car list on this site. That is what I'm restricting you to.

Seriously...the divisions split up the cars...No need for me to further cut down what is already affordable.

I am still in. I haven't picked a car yet, but did look at all the lower priced used cars. Did you figure out a formula for figuring the price of "Prize Cars"? I assume that any prize cars that cannot be sold cannot be used because there is no way of determining their cost.

I liked a division of 15K, but 7500 might make it even more interesting. I think you should start with one division, see how it goes, get feedback from those involved, and then move on to the next division. If you start at 7500 you could just double the credits for each division, up to $60K. Have 4 races per division, one each week, gives us 4 months of racing.

Those are just suggestions, count me in no matter what you decide.

double post

Thats a good idea. I'd start out with one series with a car limit of $15,000 and a tuning limit of $7500. Just see how that goes at first.

I was thinking of a total car and tuning cost of $7500, really limits the choices of cars and tuning options. That might be to limiting though. For 15K I would have the car cost and the tuning cost included in that. You could buy a cheaper car and tune it more, or buy a more expensive car and have less for tuning. I think that was the original intent of this, but feel free to flame me if I am wrong.

If its going to be $15,000 PLUS $7,500 for mods, I already know what car I'm picking...

I'm interested and most likely in. I like that it's no longer all 6 divisions at once, I think that's a little too much.

What do you think of something like this - making it into a series of 4 races, one a week equals a series a month. Then the next month could start a new division or continue an old one. This way too if someone wants to join midway, they can catch up in the points. You could also have a running tally of total points as well. So for example, if the budget is 10k for car and mods, everyone would choose a qualifying car and run it for the 4 races that month. Next month, the budget could go up to 20k and they could choose a new car or continue using the same one for the next 4; etc., etc., etc. Then in about 6 months, you'd have gone through all your original divisions you had planned and/or you could continue and make restrictions for drivetrain/country/manufacturer in addition to the budgets. Just an idea. But I'm definitely interested in seeing what you come up with.

Sounds cool.

Thinking of it in terms of mini-serieses also allows people to come in as time passes. Ultimately, in most long races, people pass in and out as their interest waxes and wanes. It would be pretty cool to see a series that reflected this reality.

I'm interested.

Good point h0ss.

First off, I apologize for not being around here for a while...

Secondly, I like your idea very much Gsrjedi. I think I'll do it that way.

I know I've kinda delayed this already, but I think I'm going to start it this summer instead. I don't have much spare time right now, getting rid of school would help a bunch. Just so you can have some testing time, the first month will be using a budget of 7,500 credits, for the car and mods, no nitrous, as I've said before.

If you're waiting that long I dont know if I'm still going to be interested.

This sounds like fun, but like The Ed3 said I don't think I would be interested if I had to wait that long before it started. Definately would do it if it started relatively soon. Also is it going to be a problem if I can't upload my replays? I just joined the forum a little while ago and don't have that maxdrive thingy to do it with, unless there's someone in WVU that could do it for me if I needed to do it.

Just in case anyone is still watching this tread, I made a db and have started entering data into it. going to add all used cars that cost less than 7500. Eventually you can select how its sorted (i.e. by cost, by hp, by power to weight ratio, etc)

Are they any new cars that cost less than 7500?

Is there anywhere I can get this info instead of constantly scanning the used car showrooms?

almost forgot, here is the url http://www.peterjford.com/btcview.php

Quite frankly, I'm far to busy (lazy) to read through this entire thread. But, after reading SOME (3-4 posts max) of your posts, why not just give everyone a starting budget; i.e. $100 000 grand to buy the best car. Then their budget will be made from the winnings earned race to race. I.e. 1st place allows them to spend an an additional $1 000 to the budget left over after buying a car.

FOR EXAMPLE:

I buy a $97 000 car is purchased. Leaving 3g's for mods. Week 1 is complete (the stock race) and I won. I now have $4 000 to spend. Keep the monetary diffrientials CLOSE but make them noticable. Maybe; after a few races, allow for certain classes to buy a WEIGHT REDUCTION MOD i.e. 1,2 get STAGE 3 and 3,4 get STAGE 2, and 5,6 get STAGE 1? or something along those lines. Each class' winners should be alloted the same winnings, i.e. winning overall will not be given a reward. D1, D2, D3 etc. positions will be given the same amount of money. (D1 1st place 1g, D2 1st, 1g etc. etc. etc.) Maybe some sort of a REWARDS weight system could be put in place. Along with $1 000 first place also earns you a nice, healthy 50kg?

I'm tripping over a number of ideas. Thread starter/league runner, I'd be interested in your input. Also, people interested in the series or are just posting because this seems so non-sensical, I'd like to hear the public's opinion.

Eventually we might get a budget that high, but for the first few races, you start with a very low budget.

... 1st place allows them to spend an an additional $1 000 to the budget left over after buying a car.

This could be an excellent way to get people to really try to win.

...Maybe; after a few races, allow for certain classes to buy a WEIGHT REDUCTION MOD i.e. 1,2 get STAGE 3 and 3,4 get STAGE 2, and 5,6 get STAGE 1?

Or, if one or two people are really dominating, those behind get a free weight reduction to make it more competative.

I had considered something about prize money before, but decided that it would work backwords, really. Say Small Fryz or some other D1 racer competes and wins the first race by half a second, then he gets more money to make his car even better than the others, so he would just keep increasing his advantage.

As Peterjford already said, this series is intended involve working with a lot budget so you must make compromises.

I'm sorry I don't really have the time to run this right now, I've been pretty busy lately with school stuff so I should be able to do it no problem once school lets out for the summer.

To reiterate, the first month's competition's beginning budget will be 7,500 credits, allowing any purchases except nitrous. Track is TBA and the budget will probably go about like this:

Week 1: 7500
Week 2: +2500 (10,000 total)
Week 3: +7500 (17,500 total)
Week 4: +15,000 (32,500 total)

That will change for each month depending on the starting budget. I won't give you an extra 2500 credits if we are racing with supercars, for instance.

Thanks for the spreadsheet, Peter. I'm sure that will help some people out.

Edit: David, I'm not running multiple classes at once anymore, instead we will run a different class (not necessarily the ones in the first post) for a month at a time, with different budgets for each week of competition.
