It might be better to isolate the seat rather than remove any foam from the seat as this way you will be able to experiment with different mounting positions to get the best effect.
I wanted to use Penn Elcom 9106 rubber feet, but I'm still waiting for relatives to bring some over from the USA. At the moment I'm using solid rubber door stops 1 inch high and 1 inch in diameter - they seem to work really well.
