Hello... I'm looking to buy a printer. Just a basic printer, as I don't need to multitask on it. To keep it in perspective, I haven't bought a printer (Canon iP1800) in a long time... so I have no clue. It's the one area I never paid attention to.

I don't want to spend a bundle, but I'd rather get something that is good on ink usage, has fairly inexpensive refills. I'm really open to suggestions. I wish I knew where to start. Any ideas, suggestions, help?

Any mid-range HP one in my opinion..

I have a cheap one and it jams something's but my grandad has a slightly more expensive one (about €200 at the time) and works fine and is a 3 in one printer/scanner/photocopier.

So a mid range HP should do the trick.

You could also check garage sales. My mother got a 3 year old HP All-in-one for $6 several years ago(should be be about 4-5 years old now) and it works great. Color and black refills cost about $35 to order.

Printers are all garbage. Every single one of them.

THAT is going in my sig. Best. Line. Ever.

However, to be more helpful, I've never seen a better printer than a Canon. Particularly the MP series. Depending on what model you buy (I've used the MP520, MP540, and MP560, but there are more), the price will vary, but you'd be looking at around the mid to late $200's. It seems like a lot, but it is very well worth it. I know you said you wanted something simple, but these have photocopy and scan abilities, which I can almost guarantee you'll need eventually. Photo printing is exceptional too. It uses 4 indervidual ink tanks to save on refilling an entire colour tank when only one color is down (uses Cyan, magenta, and yellow, and black). :)

The thing is most consumer printers are sold at a loss. It's the ink cartridges that make the manufacturer ****tons of money. It's actually cheaper in some cases to buy a new printer when your ink runs out. Example:

HP Deskjet - $29

Replacement Ink - $31

You could even just buy a new printer, take the cartridges, and sell the brand new printer as is for $15 or something.

Also if you're gong budget and aren't printing photos, cheap mono laser printers are better value than inkjets.

Additionally, it depends if you're using a printer for one computer or several. Can have wi-fi networked printers if you like so you can share the printer with several computers.

Thanks for your help. I ended up buying an HP on sale (reg. $109). Looks good, cheap ink, all-in-one, and wireless!
