for my first car i chose the VW bug, well i have done many upgrades to it and right now have about $25,00 saved up....and dont know what car to get :(
should i save up more money and go with like a 50,000 dollar car or what?
also, what would be some good choices for my second car?

I'd go with the Ford Cobra, It suited me well, Help me win a lot of the beginner course. It handles semi-decent, and with the right mods and tuning its a very good car in my book.

get whatever car you need for certain races, a miata is very versatile at the beginning of the game, but of course you couldve won that. see what cars you can win before you spend money buying one.

My suggestion would be to get something turbo and 4wd (not knowing prices), as you've got something you can upgrade into a monster and win something you can start running in the bigger amateur events.

Wait until you have 50,000 and buy either the Mitsubishi EVO7 (RS) or a Mustang SVT Cobra. And mod up with the remainder.
I don't know if you do a lot of tuning, but start with a Full-Race transmission. So you can get all the acceleration or top speed out of your chosen car.

youll get much more out of a car by buying something different. tires or a simple power upgrade are much more useful. on a turbo car, an intercooler and exhaust is a very cheap way to get 30-40 hp. this will beat a stock car no matter what the gear ratios. also some cars greatly benefit from tires. especially heavy ass cars. like domestics or even an evo.

Get something you can use to defeat the Rally portion of the game. So far I haven't bought a single car and have completed many of the more difficult races simply by using prize cars... now granted I used license test prize cars, but if you can beat all the Rally races, you'll win some nice cars to use in the rest of the game... including 4WD, FR and FF cars like the XSara which can be used to wipe the Professional FF races up in a snap.

Except that the SVT has 400 HP after oil change, but won't get anywhere near the top of sixth gear. Even fully modded you'll need a long straight to get to the top of 6th.
It sounds crazy but the two cheapest ways to get faster are narrowing the gear ratios so that you can get to the top of sixth gear on the longest straight, and I have to agree with advanR on getting better tires.
On the Mustang at Seattle I lowered my lap times by 6 seconds by going from a racing slick to a soft (T7) tire.

well, now i have 50,000 saved, and still dont know which car to buy......i am thinkin the 3000GT, would this be a bad choice?
and thanks everyone for your help so far

well maybe the race trans does help a lot, i dont know. And yea, when i bought the z06 it was too heavy and slides out of corners too much. with medium race tires its much better. I can gas it right out of corners without worrying about sliding. that, lightening it, and brakes makes it an awesome car. havent even upgraded power yet. also have you noticed that except for really ****ty cars most are great without any suspension upgrades? i think in earlier GTs it was more necessary, now tires on an NSX or vette will support tons of power. handling is good enough. i realize susp will help a lot later, but now its not necessary until then.

Hmm dont know if i'd go with a 3000gt. dont know how it compares price wise, but a GTR should be much better and lighter than it. Its another AWD turbo car, over 300hp stock. You can always buy a car, test it, right down times without saving. Then load your old game and do the same for another car and compare.

If you want awsome AWD, go with the EVO 7. It costs just over half of what the 3000GT(GTO) costs, it weighs over 300kg less
and has the same HP.
It isn't pretty. But it will serve you well. I had 80 grand in one I used for a comp with only street tires and It ran 4:40 at complex string.

i kinda thought the handling of the evos is bad. theyre mushy, understeer too much and slide too easily. not very smooth. an AWD car like the gtr is much more pleasurable to drive.

Get a yellow Skyline R34 V-Spec I (not II), and buy a fully customized racing suspension kit and a racing exhaust for it. (Oh, and some nice yokohama wheels!)

I think we've delved into this more than a few times, and the best bang for the buck on a second car is one of these three.

Lancer Evo (6 or 7, 6 being the lighter of the two)
Ford Mustang SVT (Potential giant killer)
Mitsu 3000gt )again Potential Giant killer.

I know the Lancer Evo and the Mustang SVT can both win the Trail Mtn Enduro in stock form. Just add hard tires and an oil change.

Check the Write-ups section for detailed info on the Trial Mtn with a Lancer. This drops a few hundred thousand Credits in your pocket for just over an hour's time.

If you've still got your miata in stock form, you can run the Roadster enduro. Just use hard tires, pit twice and you should be able to lap the competition. Don't worry about hte one speed demon, he pits every three laps.

You should be able to rack up loads of cash in no time.

What he said, word for word.
I like the EVO 7, but only because It is a good bit quicker thru the 0-400m run

if you keep saving yur money buy a dodge viper gts. that car is amazing and only costs 78,000+ plus it has sufficient horsepower and handeling without buying upgrades

I will 'third' what Der Alta said. Pick your car wisely to maximize the number of races for which it is eligible and competitive.

However, I don't recommend the 3000GT. I've never driven one (except goofing in free run), but when I've been up against them in races they are way too heavy to handle the tight tracks. I remember seeing it always on the wall on Tokyo 11. I recommend the Evo VI or VII RS - the lightest models.

On the subject of weight - the FIRST performance mod I do to a car is Lightweight I and II. Nothing helps you get the most out of the existing systems like making them do less work. After that I go to race tires, usually super or medium slicks. Next up comes racing trans or power adders, depending on the car and how happy it seems with the existing gearing.

For the price, you cant beat the Ford. Go pick your self up one of them badboys as your 2nd car. :p

Besides, it will teach you how to deal with oversteer...

i like the zo6, less cost effective maybe though. although i think it handles way better stock than the cobra R. It should qualify for the same number of races as it also.

my advice is basically right down the races you need to do, and what car will satisfy each. then pick what you want. or get a car that you like driving. as i said before, you can try all of these before you save.

If I remember correctly my second car was a '97 Subaru Impreza. AWD with a decent number of horses pulling it. I think it costs around 30 Gs. I have been able to use it in quite a few races in the begineer league and slo won my first Endurance race at the Super Speedway with minor modifications. I personally do not like any of the Evos because they don't turn that well. Even the prototype. By the way, i also won a few rally races with my first Impreza. It is a very light car with 270 some horses I think. I like the 3000GT except for the fact that it is heavy. Generally I try to avoid heavy cars because they can be sluggish, take more time to recover if I mess up and somehow I feel clutzy with such cars. Don't get me wrong, I like big cars in real life - I drive a boat - but in racing, to include what I have already said, the heavier the car the faster the tires may erode later on and there is a greater chance of loss of traction. I must say though that people have brought up some pretty good points.

the viper gts-r is a great choice and will help you throughout the entire beginner league and some of the amateur league, for 78,000 i'd say it is a bit expensive. But those 78 superspeedway races are worth it =]

3000GT..... when i rented the game that was my 2nd car and when fully modded i won most amature races i could get in and in the pro league i won turbo and the british race. i would go with the 3000GT

Buy the skyline, the latest model.

Go to the Endurance course at teh super speed way 150 mile.

Tape down the accelerator.

Use a tooth pick or a "Q" tip and stick it under the analog controller on the left side so the car turns to the right. so while you wait an hour and a half with the car sticking to the wall, not bouncing into tthe pit lane after the first turn.

Its how I got the Panoz car. it was my 3rd.

I did it about 6 times and each time I got eh F1 cars.
