Buying the Racing Chip

I agree with you, it's cheap and it's always the 1st proper upgrade in the REAL world ... so why not ! It does not take away torque or anythin' ...

I asked because, some of the Racing cars are unavailable to buy =[
So I was wondering why they didn't have it, if Racing Chip is really good.

Because the purpose-built racing cars already include a stand-alone engine management system, allowing full control over spark timing, fuel, rev limiter, etc. A "racing chip" is really just a variation on the fixed ECU programming of the stock car.

The only car that shouldn't get a chip is the Beetle, I believe. For some reason it makes the horsepower go down from stock.

You should buy the chip, for all cars it is less than $2,000, and the Port & Polish, but before you do that, make sure you buy the racing muffler, or possibly Stage 1 NA or Turbo Upgrade. The Port & Polish, Flywheel, and Clutch are the next priorities, since none of those parts mentioned were more than $6,000.

Let's just emphasise this one:

(standard Beetle only, not Cup Car or GSi). And it also changes the power map, so that the car cannot accelerate below about 2200rpm.

That's very strange, a racing chip decreasing horsepower. Probably something like changing the oil on the Mustang, it makes the horsepower go down.

i would think the first proper upgrade would be a K&N, or cold air intake since they cost way less, raceing chips normally go from $200+

i guess i coulda bought a raceing chip for my car, but i ended up buying a optima battery :sly:

but those arent applicable in gt3.

.....why did i just revive this?

HYBRIDLVR
I like it in 99% of my cars, In some cars with High Horse Power I also noticed some Slight HP decrease!

No.

Only in one case does fitting the "Sports ROM" cause a power decrease. The aforementioned VW Beetle 2.0 GLS. It doesn't happen in any other car.

Yes it does! I know you've done a bunch of Hybrids, If your talking out of the dealership or used car thingy then I can't argue the point and I know your correct, I've added it to some cars and got a decrease but these cars were Hybrids though!

Has anyone noticed that if you do the ECU upgrade last, that you tend to get more power? I just registered yesterday, so I figure someone's had to discover this and post about it already.

I was modding a car the other day, and did everything in the engine mods section, and checked to see how much power the computer upgrade would give me. It was about 8hp or so. My car was turbocharged, so I went to upgrade the turbo first, then went back to buy the ECU. The gains were closer to 20hp.

I thought that was pretty cool, since that is how things work in real life. You always tune your ECU last to take advantage of all the mods you've added. 👍 If you do the ECU first then a bunch of other mods, you could be missing out on some power.

he said in the real world, wich i was also talking about,

and vquick, it doesint make a difference when you add the chip, it may give less HP b4 all the other upgrades, but it still adds it up when they are all added.

Nope. All modifications are percentile and will give the same percentage increase whenever you fit them. This means that the same total percentage increase is acheived, whatever the order.
