Why is the new Podium DD 25Nm not PS5 compatible?

Hey all,
Just found out the new Fanatec Podium DD 25Nm doesn’t support PS5. I understand it’s something to do with a Sony security chip that needs to be built into the base — but why hasn’t Fanatec included it? They managed it with the old Podium DD1 bundle, so what’s stopping them from doing the same with the new 25Nm base?
Is this a Sony licensing decision, a Fanatec business decision, or something else? Would love to hear from anyone with insight.

P.S. I have DD Extreme with 15 Nm - MORE than enough for me! I am simply curious on the logic
 
I asked myself the same question :D
My guesses:
  • the f1 dd wheelbase did not sell as expected
  • the "hardcore" sim races don't use consoles
  • it's overkill for "filthy casuals" :D
  • problems with sony in the past (defect/unsuable chips, problematic licensing/validation that delayed the cs dd+)

Using the chip adds a part cost and license fee that Fanatec has to pay Sony so it raises the price

The DD1 generation did not have a close alternative in that NM range for PS as the only other choice at the time was CSL Elite - now the CS DD+ is plenty strong for most users

So it may come someday or may not - its a financial question mostly as whether there is enough of a market

"Fanatec Podium Racing Wheel F1" is the "podium dd1" you mentioned. It was a podium wheel for the ps4 :D (It was super expensive, large & heavy, had an "industrial" look and "weird" wheel)
 
Looks like there may be at least 1 Podium DD+ PS5 out in the wild, so maybe it will be released at some point.
 
I think there is a video of Misha Chardoudin using one to play GT7 along with the Podium Pedals. Could be wrong.

It always takes longer to do the negotiations with Sony/Microsoft for licenced hardware so they tend to release after the PC versions as Fanatec have complete control for PC only hardware. For licenced hardware they have to agree costs between all parties, then they have to go through the full certification process required by Sony/MS.

Takes time and costs money.

That's the Clubsport DD+, not the Podium DD
