C Smart?

I was at the motor show in Australia, Sydney (where I live of course) And they had a new car called the C Smart Car or SMART, it looked like a RX-8 sort of thing from the back end and inside it reminded you of a really advanced/modern dune buggy, and the outside looked like a LOTUS?

What is going on!?

Is this a new company thats creating new cars? Or is it LOTUS or someone creating a small URBAN car for maybe (it flew past my mind), learner drivers?

Hmm.

There's the MCC SMART Car - really a Mercedes - which is a 2-seater, 50hp (3-cyl) "City car". The plastic body panels are interchangeable so you can have pretty much any colour you want, on a background theme of black. These have been around for ~4 years, and there are even McLaren, AMG and, yes, Brabus versions (with up to 80hp!)

There's an MCC SMART Crossblade - which is the same car, but with no roof, doors or windscreen. Scary.

SMART are about to launch (Edit: I saw one on Thursday... d'oh!) a 2-seater "coupe" based on the SMART called the SMART Roadster - which is kind of RX-8ey from the back. But again, no horsepower (although this one is supercharged, if I recall), meaning it looks nice, but goes like a turtle and sounds like a wet fart.

Well, although the car has very little power, it has to be remembered that the car weigs next to nothing. So the power / weight ration is actually pretty good.

The Smart Roadster does have around 80Bhp.. Not too bad for a car weighing in at NTN™ :D

But a Brabus Roadster is coming in Q1 with around 100Bhp, and Smart have shown a Roadster which featured 2 engines making it a 6 cylinder TT with massive boost putting out 170Bhp.. Then it starts to get interesting ;) Check it OUT ! :D

I've also heard it drives very well - a sort of new Miata.

Yer there the exact cars I saw at the motor show at Darlng Harbour... They look nice but how much are they worth?

What they're worth is easily a different question that what they cost, but in the UK, the coupe costs 14500 GBP ($34800 AU) and the convertible goes for 13500 GBP ($32400 AU).

And yet it still can't turn a sub-10 0-60mph time.

Wow, I had no idea it was THAT bad. On the other hand, look at this thing, i don't think it would be very safe at high speed, anyway...

I think it's about feeling fast rather than being fast. Isn't it something like Group 4 insurance?

Offhand, wouldn't know...

I drove a Fiesta for 8 years (well, 3 different ones)... I know what feeling fast without being fast is :D

The normal SMART has the same power as my old Fiesta, weighs roughly 2/3 of it and is still 5s slower to 60mph! Group 2 insurance on those though.
