Unfortunately mine didn't ship yesterday so I've got to wait another day, at least it's better than the official UK date of Friday (we all know you have them in stores now, why not let us buy them!!)

I am also broke but we are still buying 2 copies tonight since COD3 comes with them for free.
Now the full trifecta of shooters has finally been released. Halo 3, Orange Box, and now COD4. These 3 games will keep us busy for at least another year. Not including all the other great games that are out right now and coming out soon. :)

I hear ya, with Ace Combat coming out this month in PAL regions there's almost too many games ahead of Christmas!

It is Microsoft and the publisher for you.

I really to want to get this but with Assassins Creed due out next Friday, it's going to have to wait.

Just to let everyone know, if you buy this in the UK from Blockbuster you get a free DVD copy of Saving Private Ryan.

I got this for the PS3 yesterday and its amazing. So much fun. I havent even played online yet though.

My first impressions of COD4
Had a chance to play COD4 for a few hours. Its definetly a pretty fun game but its not a Halo crusher by any means and definetly not GOTY. Both are fun and totally different games but Halo 3 defiently has the upper hand by a long shot.

Luckily the graphics and gameplay pick up around level 3. The first level was actually very mild compared to the first level of Medal of Honor: Rising Sun. Now that game had an incredible first level on a ship. COD4 seems to try and copy that but wasnt even close. Had a few wow moments for sure on level 3 so I am looking forward to seeing the other levels even though I heard the game can be beat within 6-7 hours.

As for the multiplayer there are still a ton of problems that were the same problems in the beta. You are going to see a lot of campers luckily they have the kill cam to help you hunt those campers down. Some weapons just dont make sense. The gun you start with has a grenade launcher attached to it and you can kill someone point blank with it without even hurting yourself at all. The melee system also has major issues and doesnt work half the time. Spawn killing is the biggest problem with COD4 and it was in the beta too. There are times where you will get killed by an air strike and when you spawn you get killed instantly by the same strike. Terrible spawn system that was never fixed from the beta. I bet I got spawn killed at least 20 times within 3 hours of playing COD4. Out of over 470 Halo 3 matchmaking games I have been spawn killed maybe 3 or 4 times. One of my friends also got disconnected from 8 out of 10 games.

Also when you are in a lobby with a party, you have no idea what the host is doing. It doesnt say anything so you can sit there for 5 minutes wondering if the host is switching weapons or just in the bathroom because of a bad Taco Bell moment. You also cant view your current game stats once game is over or if you go back to your lobby. No land or air vehicles. There is no quick or easy way to mute people during the game. This can be very frustrating to have to go to someones gamercard just to mute them during the game. Nope no co-op, No land or air vehicles that you can control. There is also no site that records the maps I played, the total kills, headshots, the amount of times I died, the weapons I used? None of that. Water doesnt ripple or respond realistic in 3d.

On a positive note, some of the multiplayer maps are just awesome and now the single player is picking up. The attention to detail is quite impressive in the multiplayer maps. I did see one really bad jaggy part that you just cant miss when your playing level 2 in one of the offices. I normally never see or care about jaggies but wow in the office level you just cant help but see them in this one certain spot. Not that I care but some people are really anal about jaggies. The perks are a very nice touch and will help with some of the replay value of the multiplayer because you will try to use certain weapons to unlock the goodies.

The matchmaking still just does not work right at all. When I started I was put into rooms where some of the ranks were over 20 and my party was all at level 1. So that means the level 20s had way more perks they we didnt even have yet.
The lack of co-op will have people playing through the campaign maybe two or 3 times at the most. Overall COD4 reminds me of GRAW 2 meets Rainbow Six Vegas which is a good thing but throw in some major online problems and lack of co-op.

Wow... what
censored.gif
genius thought it was a good idea to leave co-op out of this game?

Nope no co-op

A couple more things I forgot to add to the other post.

No land or air vehicles that you can control

No easy way to mute people in the game unless you go to their gamertag

No site that records the maps I played, the total kills, headshots, the amount of times I died, the weapons I used? None of that.

Water doesnt ripple or respond realistic in 3d.

I got an email from the online place I bought it from today saying it's just NOW being shipped... I died a little inside. :grumpy:

Luckily it's only 2-3 day shipping which means... 3 days.

Im going to wait a while before I get the PS3 version, want to play a demo...

Robin
Same here. I'll probably get the 360 version anyway since I know a few people who will be getting it and don't have a PS3.

Dunno about PS3. This is the XBOX360 PAL version (Australian), bought from a high-street chain store. HK$300 - that's 18 quid.

Well, I have to say that I am more than a little disappointed with this game. It suffers from everything that stopped COD3 being great which is even more infuriating. Linear gameplay means you don't feel in control of your destiny, all decision making is done by your 'team' which means you don't feel like you're part of the game and enemies respawn in exactly the same positions every time which makes the gameplay more than a little tedious. The whole gameplay experience for me is far too detached compared to games like Rainbow 6 or even Half Life 2 (which is linear but hugely immersive). Also the firefights you find yourself in are outrageously intense with tracer fire lighting up the sky like fireworks night, hordes of enemies laying down endless fire on your team with seemingly infinate ammo and RPGs screaming past your ears. Infinity ward would do well to realise that suspense and the fear built up in anticipation goes a long way to making a great gaming experience, with endless action quickly numbing the excitement.

On a positive note, the graphics are absolutely stupendously brilliant! At some points in the game I have just had to stop and say 'wow!' The first part (let's call it 'taxi-ride') in particular and thank goodness multiplayer is really good fun! I especially like the unlockable features and being a sniper is a actually a realistic proposition given the added advantage of a ghillie suit and good cover.

These are, however, only my first impressions of a game I have played for merely 3 or 4 hours. I hope the single player campaign gets better - but with multiplayer, I don't know if I'll be playing it any time soon!

Chaser_fan it sounds like your review is almost exactly the same as mine in post#67. There is another problem thats starting to occur online. Its the same thing from COD2 and COD3 where people are starting to have connection problems, host leaving and instantly giving them a win, friends getting disconnected while in a party. The first night wasnt too bad in the multiplayer but as the last couple days have progressed, the online problems are getting worse. I have now played several hours of the campaign and at least 7 or 8 hours of multiplayer. I believe I am a rank
22 or 23.
While the graphics are indeed beautiful in the campaign, you are right, you have to move forward sometimes running through firefights to activate and move your team forward. Otherwise the enemies will just keep respawing forever. Also from what I have heard the campaign can be beat within 5-6 hours. Of course veteran will take much longer.
I would give the game overall a 8.9 / 10

It took me a total of 3 hours and 48 minutes (yes, I timed myself) to beat the Single-player on Normal, and that was the first time going through. For having absolutely no Multi-player Achievements, this is a HUGE disappointment. Also, no Co-op? Lame. 👎

I may be returning this game for something else on Tuesday. I'm feeling let down. :indiff:

I tried to warn everyone with my review in post #67. lol There is also more valuable information in post#81.

My brother seems to be enjoying it. He said he probably won't be playing Halo 3 for a while.

Once I get the 1,000 pts. I'll probably be switching back to Halo 3, until Assassin's Creed comes out. ;)
There are people that got the 1000 within 1-2 days. I am trying so hard to enjoy this game but it is just not even living up to the major hype at all. I wanted to believe in my mind that a year from now I would still be playing Halo 3 and COD4 but I honestly dont think COD4 is going to last very long at all. The matchmaking is the part that bothers me the most. So many things are unbalanced and not working correctly in COD4. The perks are a cool concept but thats seriously all that game has.

It's ok, bud. I'm right there with ya', on that one. The game looks great on paper, and the pictures are quite stunning, but once you get into it... it's short, prone to problems, and lacks structure.

You beat the entire single player mode on normal difficulty in less than four hours on your very first playthrough? I dont believe it.
