I am happy with everything on there besides it doens't look like they will have a true matchmaking like COD3 or Halo 4 have. If thats the case there will be a lot of unbalanced games just like in COD4.

I'm personally not looking forward to it, I only got intrested in COD4 because it had finally moved on from WWII to modern warfare times. Now its gone back to WWII, I'm frankly not intrested. Yes, I know there are still plenty of stories to tell in WWII but frankly there are plenty of new stories about new wars to tell, what about the Gulf War? The Falkland War? Even the Iraq war?

For me even if this game will be "great" graphically and gameplay wise. It's lost its shine towards me. I also know several others who will be dissapointed about the switch back to WWII.

I totally agree. When are we going to get some good vietnam games. Vietnam would really be a great setting for a game. I played the few that was made for the ps2, but they were very lackluster. If infinity ward put their minds at work a vietnam setting could be the most intense shooter ever.

Dang this game is looking VERY VERY good. Looks like they have even fixed the one thing I hated about COD4. Found this in a FAQ section about COD5.

  • How will the spawns work? I disliked the spawns in COD4...
There is a new neat spawn system installed in the game, which will determine where snipers are, where enemies are, where grenades are being thrown, ect, to decide the best spawn location for you.

There are several new gameplay videos on Gametrailers.com including the 4 player co-op and multiplayer. There is even a dog attack when you get a 7 streak kill. The only bad thing is that this game comes out right around the time GOW2 comes out.

The multiplayer looks very, very similar to COD4's (very similar interface), with maps which look more sophisticated now. Definitely something I'm going to play a lot...

I am going to pre-order to copies in hopes that we will get into the beta.

i never really got into call of duty games. i prefer rainbow six vegas 1 & 2 :)

I pre-ordered 2 copies yesterday.
This one is looking pretty good and has 4 player co-op campaign which is a first for the series. You can also send out a pack of German Sheppards when you get a 7 kill streak. Funny watching people run for their lives away from the dogs. :sly:
You should at least rent it for sure.

i will rent it like i did the others, i still havnt even played COD3 yet.

I liked COD3 a lot after they fixed the problems. I did not care much at all for COD4. Looks like this is a perfect mix between the 2 games and COD5 has much better spawn system so you dont get spawn killed all the time like in COD4. THe crappy spawn system is why I sold COD4.

Gotta admit I'm really looking forward to getting this, the multiplayer looks very good (dogs! tanks! everything!) and the co-operative mode sounds like it will be amazing with your friends. :)

Oh, not the friggin' dogs again. I hate those SOBs on COD4. :grumpy:

Why did you order 2 copies?

And if the dogs get sent out couldn't you just climb up a ladder, on a auto, etc.?

Heather has her own 360 so I buy 2 copies of almost everything. :sly:
As for the dogs...Just shoot them or stab them with the knife. I want to run over one with a vehicle and see what happens.

Yup, after you get a 7 kill streak they appear and attack your enemies.

The dogs can't be stabbed if they jump on you, they have to be shot! And then they respawn, too, until the timer on them has ran out.

At least the dogs will attempt to kill campers, which is a good thing.

Respawning is great for the dogs but like i was saying about just climbing up a ladder or on or in a vehicle and well, that kind of makes them useless.

Not really, it's the same as the chopper not being able to kill people in buildings. It's still effective.

All depends on what type of building you are in with the chopper though. I have ran in for cover and gotten killed plenty of times by that annoying bird.

Anyone in here get into the beta yet? Looks I like dont have my e-mail yet for the COD5 beta. If I dont get into the beta I wont be buying the game. The only reason I pre-ordered it was to get into the beta in hopes that it would be a really good game. I have been hearing the spawns are worse but I cant confirm that. I hated the COD4 spawns and if they are worse then that I wont be buying the game. Its that simple.

I just got my beta token from www.eurogamer.net they were giving away 10,000 for free at 1800 GMT, they're probably all gone now though, sorry guys!

The file is 889.98mb and is VERY quick at downloading so you won't have to wait long when you do get it. :)

I got into the BETA too. :) Overall I'm very impressed.

The graphics are very similar. There are a few improvements here and there. The overall sharpness of the graphics seem to be improved. I remember reading that COD 4 runs slightly under 720p - maybe they have fixed this now. It seems generally a tad smoother, which is quite something because COD4 was smooth anyway!

The gameplay is almost exactly the game. The lobbys, leaderboards, perk and gun selections, the HUD, the shooting, aiming, using streak rewards are all exactly the same as COD4. In place of nightvision the button now reveals the whole map, rather than you pressing the start button to view it before. The guns are a little more complicated to use, as expected since the guns are many years old. Because some are so bad (like bolt-action rifles without a scope), you feel some other guns are very over powered. All the sub-machine guns, especially the MP40, seem to completely obliterate people at closer range. All longer range weapons, which is quite a lot, seem to be nearly useless at their range or way too slow. And this isn't help by the pistols being a lot weaker than COD4's, so quickly switching to pistol is out of the question. The sniping is good though - it seems more responsive than COD4's and is more like they were in COD3. Shame most of the shots take 2 to kill someone, even with Stopping Power.

The maps seem a little more open and sophisticated than COD4's - you can be shot from many angles. In COD4 you'd have a perfect gun choice for a particular map, but it's a little more complicated now. I'll have to keep playing and see how it goes, since of all the 15 or so weapons unlocked in the BETA only 3-4 are useful IMO. Some others are good (like the Gweyer 43), but the clip is waaaaay too short.

There's a few niggling problems. The spawns seem too random. I have been spawn killed at least twice already, and this is on larger than usual maps with only 12 players! The hit detection is a little worse than it is in COD4. I've hit several people with a sniper shot and it's gone straight through them. The grenades seem a little weaker. I know some people hated getting killed by grenades in COD4 all the time, but if a grenade lands near you know you don't die unless you're pretty close to it... The Cocktail grenades are weak too - unless you do a direct impact, it doesn't really kill anyone. The fire damages you a little, but that's it. A normal grenade is more effective.

Overall, it feels like an almost complete game already. It's just as stable as COD4 too - it must be using the same netcode. I can't wait for the full game... especially since you can only get up to level 11.

I agree completely. I've been trying to use the semi autos to be a bit different but every single time I do I just get obliterated by some guy with an MP40 or a Thompson. It's completely unbalanced, as is the bolt actions taking 2 shots to kill when they take so long to reload. Also, they need to introduce a way of letting you know if the dogs running about on the map are yours or the enemies, and make them easier to kill. At the minute they appear to take just as long to kill as a human! Once they've got those sorted, along with the spawns, the game will be amazing!

I still dont have my beta code yet and I pre-ordered 2 copies from Gamestop and signed up on the COD site.

One of the codes came in the mail and the other one I got from someone on the xbox.com forums. We will be checking this out tonight after work.

My mate also didn't get his beta token and he registered at callofduty.com just like i did and i got mine yesterday morning. It might of helped that i signed up months ago and he just signed up last month. I played it some yesterday but not much because my kids were going crazy and i couldn't concentrate on the game. I got to lvl3 and that was it. I did pick up a sniper rifle before i stopped playing and sniping did seem a little better than in cod4. Not sure on what gun i had but i hit a guy in the leg while he was running and he went down like a ragdoll :). The maps do seem more complicated and will have more than a few spots per map where all the sheep will flock to. Ready to play some more today, hope my mate gets his code so we can play together!

Just my luck, he got his downloaded today and today is the day i ran out of gold membership and i don't have the cash right now to get even a months worth. I guess i will have to start a new xbox account to get the free month of gold to play it.....ugh...

Thanks for this first review. Can't wait... I don't have a beta key, but I'm not sure if I want one. Without the tension stays at a higher level and I can still have fun with Far Cry 2...

I know it's only a beta, but there's a massive annoying glitch on Roundhouse at the moment. You can glitch underneath the floor and be able to walk around the whole map, being able to see and shoot everyone without anyone being able to see you...

We played the COD5 beta for a good hour and a half. Still a lot of the same problems that were in COD4. Seriously why even have betas if you are not going to change the problems. The knife melee still has impact problems, still spawn kill problems, along with some strange hit detection. The coolest feature is the dogs for sure. I really really enjoy that part of the game. I am glad we got into the beta because at this point its really just COD4 with older weapons, tanks, and dogs. They really need matchmaking. Several times we were matched against obvious clans with people that were all level 11 while we were level 1. An entire team of 11 against 1s thats just not fair at all. With matchmaking, COD 4 and COD5 could be incredible games. Since COD3 had matchmaking I really thought COD5 would.
With that said we have decided not to buy this game.

Well I doubt matchmaking would make much of a difference in a beta anyway, espeically with the limited amount of people playing there isn't many people to match with.

But I understand your decision though, but you are only basing your decision on a BETA - COD4 was improved quite a lot over its beta, so I'm expecting the same for this.
