Call of Duty 5 - News and speculation

There's not much on the table at the moment, but I figured I would start a thread discussing the next game in the CoD series.

From Gamespot

GameSpot
It goes without saying that Activision plans a new installment in the Call of Duty franchise during its 2009 fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2009. The publisher has released a new installment in the series every fourth quarter since the series launched in 2003. In today's earnings follow-up with analysts and investors, the publisher dished more details on the fifth Call of Duty game, first revealed in December.

In addition to announcing new platforms, Activision also revealed that Call of Duty 5 would again shift the setting of the series. "We'll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theater to engage our significantly larger user b

The developers for COD usually has IW doing even numbers and the other one the odd numbers, but I do hope IW makes the 5th, seeing the amazing job they did on 4.
Also expectable would be dedicated servers for online gaming, and all the early problems that COD4 had would be ironed out when 5 gets its release.

I'm also extremely happy to see that the rumours of yet another WWII game were not true, I really love the fact that they're sticking with modern warfare; there's still so much to see, so many places where people would want to have battles with some new weapons... :)

Couldn't agree more mate:tup:

I hate to ruin this guys but it has been confirmed that IW WONT Do COD5... it will again be given over to Treyarch the COD3 developers

Everyone is up in arms and they fear it will suck because Treyarch dont really have a clue! Everyone wants to continue the COD4 story... I would happily return as Soap to see what happens.. Activition have a contract to alternate between dev's because they want a game every year.

There have been jokes that your not going to find out what happened until COD6..... sadly this may be true and we may have to wait till then to get another good COD game...:indiff:

I would be skeptical about COD5... you wont be playing the same story that for sure!!

COD 3 wasn't a failure though - it still got good reviews and the multiplayer is some of the best apparently (harder than COD4's). Hopefully they will improve apon that in COD5 after the experience they had with COD3.

COD3 may have not been bad, but it was no where near the hit that COD4 was.. that game basically put IW on the map and set a new FPS standard on consoles! People want to continue with something thats good and may feel let down when the next game doesn't live up to expectations...

Some people who will buy COD5 may not be cluded in on whos dev'ed the game and might be really pissed when they find its not the same thing as the previous one if you know what I mean.

I'm sick of both modern warfare games and WWII games, they seem like they are everywhere. Why not do a Korean War game or even WWI? Change it up a bit and give the gamers a new outlook on history instead of the same old thing again and again. I guess they could do a Vietnam game but that seems like it's been done before as well.

I dont know, I think a WWI game is a bit too dated, doesnt seem like much fun shooting at people with the worst weapons imaginable. I was happy with the modern warfare game, shooting with modern assault rifles is more fun to me than ancient bolt action rifles. I also think that if they make up their own modern conflict and story they have more leeway and can do more than sticking to the facts of history.

Anyways I am doubting whether it will be as good as COD4.

Call of Duty 5 name and details
News by Rob Purchese

The next Call of Duty is subtitled World at War and developed by Treyarch.

It will feature co-op for the first time in the series and is heading to PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, according to the first details - spilled from the pages of GamesTM magazine and read by VG247.

The Nintendo version will be handled by a separate developer, we're told, but all will be built on the Call of Duty 4 engine.

Call of Duty: World at War is set back in World War II amid the Pacific struggle between the US and Japan.

Content is said to be as gritty and mature as any game around. Apparently the opening shows a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat and turning to dish out a similar fate to you. Is that gritty and mature enough for you? Is it?

There's no word on a date just yet, but word comes off the back of Call of Duty 4 managing to sell over 10 million copies and retake the top-spot of most-played game on Xbox Live from Grand Theft Auto IV.

Look out for our thoughts on Call of Duty: World at War in the nearish future.

I'm not sold on returning to WWII either, but if they manage to not screw up the gooey goodness of the CoD4 game engine I'd be alot more likely to give it a shot.

Info over PSU.com reveal that 360 will be the lead platform. We'll have another port Ladies and gentlemen, hopefully they won't screw us up.

Well based on plenty of first hand experience with CoD4, that's actually one thing I'm not worried about. The PS3 engine runs just fine and I have to assume Trey would really have to be a pile of dolts to screw that completely up.

I may be wrong but IW had 2 different teams working on PS3 and 360 versions of CoD4, they had no lead platform when they were developing the game.

Yep IW had 2 separate teams working in parallel on the 2 platforms. But once again Trey is gonna get the full PS3 CoD4 code to start with... so it has got to be highly unlikely they'd completely muck up an engine that has already proven its worth to the tune of some 3.3 million in sales WW on the PS3 to this point.

Damn ww2 we have just had too amny surely after moh airborne theres nothing else to cover and apparently its gona be treyarch getting it not iw!!

Yeah, I think I'll be disappointed if they go the WW2 route, not only has it been done to death but the inferior weapons would be annoying too.

WW2? Nah I think I will wait for COD6 when Inifinity Ward are back...

I am not going to right it off just yet, but I am not particularly hopeful.

In general I agree but you have to admit the samurai sword could be pretty 🤬 cool ;)

Vietnam? D:

I'm with Stev, I' think I'll wait 'till IW comes back. The graphics dont look that goog also, they still have barely done anything in the game though I think. Didn't they just start making it?

I agree, I really think they will continue the story where it left off as everyone will want to know what happened next..... If that is confirmed I will 100% buy it! IW all the way! It will probably be called Modern Warfare 2.

Yeah, make quicktime (A.K.A. PRESS THIS BUTTON OR DIE, HAR HAR YOU DIDN'T LOL YOU SUCK)events just to reload, lol

From,
Chris.

I imagine there would be a lot of time spent in an open field reloading your weapon.

Oh man, that would suck

By the way, very few games will EVER be as bad as Gods & Generals.

Gamespot review (hilarious!)

Keep in mind that the graphics are from 2004 and not 1996. Best part is at 1:20, the AI shoots in the completely wrong direction!

But we're getting a bit off topic here..
