I imagine it is good, because Treyarch were to scared to change many of the core mechanics (they used the COD4 engine for Quantum of Solace to! LAZY!!! Then shove the fact they used the COD4 engine in wherever they can to make some more money). I imagine the changes they've made have reduced it's quality a bit though. Just my prediction.

I am currently waiting for my pre ordered copy and my M1A1 that comes with it. A few of my freinds have it already and said that it was fun, but it seems to be a little bit harder. They said that the maps are more spread out and larger and you need to work as a team in order to win. The story mode is also supposed to be good too, and when you beat it you unlock a special game mode.

Cheers thats sounds good, one of the things that really made me take another look at this game was the co-op system for 4 players.

Quote

there's considerably more replayability here because the bulk of the campaign is playable in cooperative mode with up to three other players

IGN review 9.2

The stratery element also sounds good as it can get tedious sometimes on COD4 when you find yourself in a room full of "hallo players" I know some like that style of play but personaly a slightly slower thinking over reaction game player is more enjoyable.

I'm going to use my Sealing_Phan account for W@W, at least until I get decent. That way I won't always be 'catching up' to my real KDR like I've been in COD4.

Also a couple weeks ago I used this account on CoD4, the KDR is >2.

I'm going to be aiming for a 3.0+ in this game when I pick up the limited edition. My friend in the BETA got a 4.5K/D with around 3000 kills, which is very good. He camps a lot but still, I've seen nothing like it yet.

I and 3 or 4 other mates are also very good at the game, so playing Team Deathmatch together is going to be pretty insane... We're all picking it up together in the same store in an hour. :)

I love this game it makes a refreshing change to COD 4. I played about a couple of hours last night and really enjoyed it. 1080P Resolution was a nice little surprise. The maps are varied and some have a good sense of big open space and are quite vast. Upto now I have only used a handfull of weaponary and although they are challenging are such a blast to us.

One bad point upto now for me: It still uses the same crappy system from COD 4 where when the host quits the game/match ends :banghead:, why can't they use host migration like they did in COD 3 👍.

Bring on some more gaming action tonight 👍.

Edit: My new PSN for this is UK-CLOWNE-CRAIG broken down this is my Country, the name of the little village in which I live in and my Name 👍 a few of my friends and family members are adopting this sort of format for their new PSN's to use while playing WaW.

I'm sad right now, I was hoping that my copy would be sitting on my patio when I got home from school today but that didn't happen. All of my freinds are playing right now and I am left out. Maybe tomorrow.

got this game last night and logged about 3 hours into it so far. only got a 1:1 KDR but once i figure out the levels should be able to boost it up.

I'm gonna feel really left out untill christmas.....I might have to stop reading this thread until I get it...I'll see.

I've played the first few missions and it's fun, but I still haven't got accustomed to the crappy guns. The MP44 in COD4 owned compared to the weapons (8 or 9) I've tried. I'm sure the online is pretty good, haven't touched it but've heard good things from reliable sources (friends) :dopey:

@L724: Would you be able to rent it? Or perhaps steal permanently borrow a friend's copy without asking...

When it comes out in my stupid midget video store I could, but I wont spoil my
Christmas present if you know what I mean.

LOL!!! Well it sells some Bluerays but hey, thats only a small case :p

Right heres a few things to chew on, I've had a few good hours on the game now and yes it's great!

The single player is certainly far less imersive than COD4, the characters and story is ........a little rushed? Online however it redemes itself. there is split screen co-op and 4 player online which is a fantastic addition and something that makes up for single players lack luster. On the standard multiplayer it's a case of giving it time. We've all had a year to memorise every nook, crany and blasted brick on COD4 and jumping into COD5s multiplayer can be a confusing afair at first. Looking at it things are more chaotic, much more "war ravaged" theres certainly a better "feel" to online matches which make COD4s levels look posertivly pristeen.....an example would be, COD4 = Building site, COD5 = london in the blitz!.

The loby and weapon upgrade sstem has been lifted straight from COD4, if it works don't fix it is the aproach and a good one. The match options have now been increased along with a system of having to be a certain rank to unlock certain game modes.
Quick mention at this point about the tanks and dogs.......2 of the bigest changes. First the tank, there SLOW.....and taking guys down with the main gun is a tall order  the second guy who gets to sit on the gun is more than a little exposed as well pluss a few RPGs will see your tank in bits! This however is a good thing, theres no advantage to be had in a tank other than to provide shorterm cover and to get accross open ground relertivly safley, happily it dosn't unbalance the gameplay! Now the dogs........on COD4 you got a helicopter for a 7 streak kill....and they were the bain of most matches, being responcible many a team victory. These have been replaced on COD5 with a pack of dogs and it's a briliantly well balanced system. Plus the sight of a pack of alsatians running riot in the enemys stronghold warms the cockless of any snipers heart  just as it strikes fear when there coming for you  Unlike the choper though you can see and hear there aproach, dispatching them isn't too hard as is just avoiding them.

I've got the PS3 version of the game and it's main rival is going to be Resistance 2 with it's 60 player online mayhem, equaly the 360 version is in compertition with the sublime looking gears of war 2, then of course theres Far Cry 2 ........all worthy copertition in the shooter market. The main question I supose is dose it surpass COD4? well yes and no.......Single player fairs badly compared to COD4 but the multiplayer certainly edges it, you do have to give it time to familiarise yourself with the umpteen maps and the slightly slower pace. Theres not a great deal of improvement over COD4 but its a big act to follow, the locations, weapons and map desighn however do a good job at distancing the 2 games and offer a more varied experience making it different enough to COD4 to make it a worthwhile purchase. This can be said of the other titles I mentioned, they are all slightly different in there aproach to the FPS system and as such owning 2 of them won't see you with 2 games the same.

Ultimatly if your buying the game for the single player then you may be disapointed, It's not that it's bad, it's just not as good as COD4 If however your getting it for some online gaming you'll be more than happy with it after you get used to the maps and especialy with the inclusion of a 4 player online co-op mode for the first time in the series.

Good post.

I finished the 1player today and jumped right online. I would say everything is better in terms of map balance and spawn points. Maybe it's me but I think that rewarding prestigers is kinda against the point of 'prestige' in the first place. Also attack dogs work surprisingly well, though I would give them a bit less health for realism and sanity's sake. It's a better mechanic than choppers in cod4 (shooting a dog will make you safe at least for a bit, if that makes sense... Also, it seems Camoflauge (UAV Jammer equivalent) would be very beneficial, much more so than cod4. That might just be from my lack of experience of the maps though.

Hopefully some of that made sense, it's 5:AM here

oh, my kdr is 1.76 at lvl8. I may have found a glitch regarding low levels, will explain later

@Hereward; is there actually a 4 player split screen online?? How does the naming system work? Is it you and the players in your room against another group of people in the one other room together all working under the same team? Or is the multi-player split screen just offline?
Great write up by the way.

Hmm not sure on the split screen and taking it online? I think it's a case of 2 of you in the same room can go at the missions (not the PBY and SNIPER missions though or 4 of you meet up online and can co-op through the missions that way. This system really is a jewl in the crown in my opinion and one that will absorb many many hours.

I usualy play sniper or heavy gunner so tend to be sitting out of the main maddness LOL the "dogs or war" are great to watch as a sniper as you get a good idea of where the enemy are especialy when they break for cover to avoid the mutts! On some of the levels that contain lots of huts the dogs do cause mayhem unlike the more open levels where they can be picked off at a distance.

On the subject of maps, theres alot! much more than COD4 as an avid Airsofter (yes I play toy soldiers in the woods) I really like the map desighn and the "natural" feel of them, lots of places to run to cover or to hold up in. I found with COD4 the maps were a little barren in places and you'd find there would be key points on the map used by everyone for defending this ment alot of the areas were never used apart from moving from point a to point b. With COD5 there is that feeling of an attack or ambush could come from anywhere giving a hightend feeling of tension.

Talking of cover, gone are the silencers and in come the flash supresors.....much more relivant to this type of game, 9/10 times your position is given away by your muzzle flash not the sound of the shot and the muzzle suppresor goes along way to improve the "campers" effectiveness!

How do people find the guns? Personaly I'm loving the classic stuff, lots of detail in the graphics and sound department and the slower rates of fire really help to cut down on the run and gun halo style of play which can take away alot of the fun and skill replacing them with reaction time and running around in circles........sorry to those halo fans out there LOL

Finaly I have to say I've not really scratched the surface of this game, my favorite game mode was hardcore on COD4 and that is quite a few levels away from my current one yet plus the 13 or so online maps are going to take alot of learning!.......I've probubley only played on 5 or 6 of them so far! I will say that if you'r expecting a head and shoulders improvement over COD4 your going to be disapointed, but it is a tall order to better one of the best, if not the best FPS out there......But it is better, not a great deal better but definatly overall a worthy succesor to what was all ready a prety perfect game!
With the amount of fans out there this is going to be another huge hit for the series, if comparisons must be made think COD2 with the benerfits of everything COD5 was then a little more.....I think Resistance 2 has got it's work cut out against this game and until Killzone saunts in early next year (fingers crossed) COD5 / COD:WOW could just be this years FPS title of choice.....Oh but you have to try Far Cry 2 it's open world enviroments are beautiful. Don't ya hate so many AAA christmas releases with Home, Fall Out, Little Big Planet GT5p Update? far cry 2 and COD5 they picked a fine time for a world recession LOL

what kind of a crappy postman leaves your parcels on the patio??? :scared:

Damn...you just made me go buy this thing.

Sorry LOL Just had an excellent night on COD5 tried the excellet co-op mode as well. have to say, the more you play the more you spot some of the details not at first evident. I'll not spoil it for you but theres some nice desighns to the maps in regards areas you can access with some blatant war film locations LOL Also found knifeing the war hounds works best as long as you get your back to a wall. I also noticed the gore level is ramped way up, removable arms and legs? no problem and headshots can get messy with the high powered stuff LOL

I rented this game yesterday from Blockbuster for 10 days! And, oh my, is this a good game! *.* I've played 6-7 missions on single player and havent tried co-op yet.
I'm level 16 online I think.

Finished the story mode last night and opened up the 'bonus' level last night and I have to say WOW....

Nazi Zombies Rule

What I was expecting to be a small add-on is simply brilliant, you start off alone in a bunker with a pistol and zombies trying to get in, as you kill them off you get 'money' to clear rubble (so you can get upstairs and defend better), buy better guns (BAR is a great zombie killer) and rebuild the baracades.

In solo mode it does a great job of building tension and panic, got to try this in co-op mode, so if I get a chance I will invite some people to try it.

The story mode is well worth finishing to get this little bonus, its great.

Scaff

Good playing, your win ratio is 6.00. Mine is 7 nyah nyah. After playing 1 hour 5 minutes: (7th down)

Not bad yourself...You usually only had a couple of deaths but 20+ kills. :dopey: Those were my first matches, I had only beaten the game about 20 minutes before that.

I like the fact that you can sneak around better than in CoD4. Did you see the weapon upgrades? "Aperture sight" is the RDS spoof. I hate seeing how much of this game is CoD4 but taken back sixty years. They even say some of the same things when you start a match. :dunce:

Dogs are by far my favorite feature. Do they run around forever until they get killed or do they disappear after a certain amount of time? I'm pretty sure I doubled my kills in that one match near the end just from dogs.
