Calsonic Skyline drives like the Road Rules Winnebago

on ICE. I am in the --Race for Red Emblem-- in Pro Leagues and I have ran the first two races on SuperSlicks. Tried all kinds of tweaks but just can't seem to find a happy medium. Maybe because I just stepped out of my TommyK but I need to find a better setup.

Is this a great car and I just need to do more work or is this a great car to sell? Thanks in advance

try and find a setup, because most Skylines do great stuff with the proper tuning. especially the racing models.

Well...just won that series and got another Calsonic. I'll sell one and keep working on the settings. The car just seems to slide all over the track. Thanks for the insight

well, at least you (apparently) were able to finish the series with the Calsonic. you must be doing something right. ;)

Go to the Writeups page and search for Calsonic. Der Alta ran something in the Calsonic, and he sometimes includes his setup info in the wirteup.

I did indeed utilize the Calsonic to a great degree in the Laguna Seca Enduro and the Grand Valley Enduro. Both include settings, and best lap times, as well as multiple indepth notes. Big Blue ran beautifully. i didn't have too much of a problem, very smooth and stable through turns, and even over the corkscrew.

You said you're having a problem with it sliding all over the track...Which menas you're likely braking too hard and too late coming into corners. As another note, I'm betting, you can't keep the back end planted when accelerating out of corners? Tends to fishtail out alot? This means one of two things, you've got way too much power (easy mistake with any skyline), and you're punching the power too fast coming out of the corner.

I know you've already finished the race, but do any of the reactions sound familiar? Please remember these are only suggestions, but give this a try...Add all the mods except the turbos, put super slicks on it, and run 10 laps around Grand Valley in the Arcade mode. Simply Bottom out the suspension, adjust the final drive to 4.500, and set the Auto Level at a level where you'll hit the redline at the end of front straight. Boost teh brakes to 17 front/15 rear. Boost your downforce as high as it goes. set ASM at 0, and TCS at 1. Leave everything else the same.

As two notes that I found really helped, learn to use the analog sticks. Right one is Gas & Brake, left one is Steering. And don't "slam" the throttle.

Does the car react the way it used to? As a bit of homework, can you tell me the change in car reaction, and why you think the changes happened?

Hope this helps, and keep us posted about the rest of the story.

Der Alta...you nailed it.

I was fishtailing coming out of most every turn and it took me a few laps to try and control the horsepower. I am going to make the change to the sticks this weekend seeing that there is no real good way to control the "X" button acceleration out of turns except the dreaded -tap..tap..tap-.

I was able to finish the series simply because I had won the Calsonic somewhere else and it blew away the Red Emblem competition, even though most of my races were not run 'technically' well. I can't imagine taking this car in an enduro but obviously I have work to do under the hood because a lot of you like this car.

Thanks for the insight and I am off to read your Laguna Enduro write-up with Big Blue.

As for changing over to the sticks, give yourself about two weeks (eight hours play time) to get used to the feel. It took me about that much time to get the feel for it, and I still (after 11 months) have to remind myself "Smooth...no blipping on the throttle."

You should notice a good reduction in lap times with this.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Der Alta...Spent an hour learning the sticks and it is such a difference. Been racing for about a month and this is a new game again with these analogs. Thanks for the help.

To be the racing Skylines in GT3 feel like the Escudo, atleast acceleration wise. Feels like a rocket ship! :D Fun to drive in the turns though, they grip extremely well.

yeah feels like escudo in accleratin but turns way better abviously i dont see how the escudo can be used even asa rally car and the dont even have pikes peak in gt3?

i dunno i am used to the Tommy K handling as well, and I think the skyline is excellent. I actually did not have it until I completed Race of Red Emblem pro in a NISMO 400R with 661 HP. It seems to stick the turns (although I don't have mine at 900 HP just yet). I don't like using Super Slicks unless absolutely necessary. I used Mediums in the Red Emblem Race and pit halfway with all the other cars. Seemed to work fine. Anyway, I actually would pick the Calsonic as one of my 10 best cars.

Zexel Skyline all the way :D I got both but always thought the Zexel handles a lot better. Weird how they make different max power with the same turbo kit upgrade.

Tezzell, Glad the insight helped.

I checked this past weekend, and my Calsonic has 732.8 miles on it.

I think it's a fairly close toss up which is better the Zexel or the Calsonic. I'm a bit biased towards the Calsonic, as I've run more than a few miles in it.

I used my Calsonic for the first time last night. Initially I found the tail a bit wayward, but that was more my clumsiness than anything. I did find that it has no grip at all on cold tyres though.
