As far as I can tell they're just selling the engine for that price. Doesn't the ZL1 have more power? I'm not sure why anybody would go for this one besides the engine specifically. It even manages to have a goofy as hell stance with the downsized wheels.

ZL1 - LSA (6.2L S/C V8): 580 BHP
Z/28 - LS7 (7.0L N/A V8): 505 BHP

The ZL1 is more of a luxury car, not unlike the GT500 Mustang. The Z/28 is meant to be the track car.

Thing is, they offer the 1LE as well, which is otherwise a track car on the cheap. Same suspension bits and tires as the ZL1, but has the normal LS3 from the standard Camaro SS.

They're selling on the name, they're getting more use out of the LS7, and they want to rub it in the face of Ford and Chrysler as long as they can until the next-generation models show up. That's about it.

Why are they detuning the 2.0T?

The 2.0T that's in everything else? You mean how they're dropping it from 270 BHP to somewhere around the 250 BHP range? I think the updated engine has a bit more torque and a smoother power delivery compared to it's predecessor. Apparently it's made the Buick Regal GS quite a bit better (well, not to mention the optional AWD), not sure how it's changed in other vehicles. As I understand it, not everything is making a switch to that level of output.

I know the Z/28 has less power. My point was that it's a 427 and Chevy guys are dumb and **** their pants when they hear that. They'll pay $75 grand for a car with optional air conditioning.

All of the serious racers will be happy with the LS7 going in the Z/28. It's easier to push more power out of the LS7 than a supercharged 6.2. Same story with the Z06 vs ZR1 Corvette.

Roll your eyes all you want. If I wanted to own a track car my first criteria would be that it not be the size of a freaking truck. Second, that I be able to see out of it.

I'd probably get an FD, put a V8 in it, suspension, some sticky tires and call it a day. I might even install the A/C compressor because **** it it's optional. And then I'd walk you in your XLR. Then I'd buy a used Z06 with the 45 stacks I saved and walk you with that too.

That's a neat story. Did you think I wanted a Z/28? Or was it because I'm just a dumb chevy guy so I just ****** pants at the thought of a 427 and automatically needed one?

I agree, this is stupid money for such a car. I also think it's stupid heavy for what it is, kind of like the same way I thought a 4200lb ZL1 is stupid... Then we have the fact of just seeing out one, the neat hotwheels styling really makes it feel like you're a god damn small child in one and definitely the worst visibility I've ever encountered in a newer car. If I wanted a track car and I had 75k at my disposal I would most definitely go a different route as well...

How can the car still weigh 3800lb? Is any part of it even aluminum or carbon fiber?
There is no reason for it to cost 75k. It has a good engine and suspension, but damn.

Funnily enough, doesn't GM sell race ready version of Camaro that is significantly lighter?

If you are referring to the COPO, it's not street legal. It's their equivalent to the Cobra Jet Mustang.

If I recall correctly, when new Camaro came out, didn't Chevy sell stripped chassis that had literally nothing on it except doors, hood and trunklid?

I've heard something along those lines but I don't recall them actually selling them.

It wouldn't surprise me though seeing as several brands sell stripped down chassis only vehicles.

They teased a stripped down model with a lot of panels switched out to carbon fiber at SEMA a few years back, but as far as I know, nothing ever came of it. Instead, we received the 1LE and the Z/28 for the racing-minded enthusiasts.

Ford does it with a lot of vehicles...the Mustang, several trucks etc.

Didn't see the Camaro before though.

Same here the body in white Camaro must be new.

The Zeta is a heavy platform.

The Zeta is a heavy platform.

Heavy and outdated, sadly. Recent improvements to the chassis with the updated Commodore and Chevy SS are enough to keep it relevant, but Alpha puts it to shame, and that's the main reason why it's what's replacing it. I think GM learned their lesson when it comes to weight, and my hope is that the next-generation Camaro is a big step forward. Getting the car down to 3500 lbs should be the benchmark, and I think they can do it.

I'm also wondering who they expect to buy this car.

Z/28 fans will be turned off by the oversized displacement and are probably too old to deal with having a single speaker and track suspension.

Road race buyers don't want a car that weighs two tons and looks like a Prelude.

Chevrolet really needs to step in. The dealer has made it clear that they aren't going to play nice so this bad press is only going to get worse.

Can someone explain to me why the dealer, their insurance, or the driver who wrecked it in the first place are not responsible to give them a replacement vehicle. The car was joyridden by one of their employees, on the clock or not, under their care unless there's some fine print when you service a car anything that happens to it is not their liability. I guess I'm missing something.

GM is sending the man a brand new ZL1 after he rejected a different vehicle due to high mileage.

A Chevy dealer in Grand Rapids is actually sending them a car to buy, although if you read the auto blogs they make it out like GM is giving them a free car.

Not only higher mileage, but it was owned by two different people, and had a sunroof which they (the Hoopers) didn't want

I'm so sick of this story... Don't get me wrong, I feel for the people and their loss of property but I really don't think they deserve a car or anything else out of the ordinary.

They should get the appropriate insurance payment and accept it just like the rest of us in the world who have lost a vehicle due to someone else's negligence.

Sorry to be so blunt about it but these people have started rubbing me the wrong way now that I've repeatedly seen them expecting treatment that most people don't get from insurance or the party responsible for the destruction of the car.

The dealership has been acting poorly and definitely holds blame for the incident but that doesn't mean these people deserve a new car or a new car for free.
They deserve a payment for the value of the car and should they decide to buy another Camaro it will be up to them to find one that fits the bill.

Harsh but realistic.

Oh and btw, the one he rejected also had crash damage... That dealership really is a nasty crew. :yuck:

That'd be Berger Chevrolet, according to this article. All around top-notch dealer, great reputation with sporty Chevrolets over the years. I'm glad they stepped up to the plate, it certainly continues their already positive cred with the Camaro faithful.

I had read that it also had some mods installed. Didn't say what but depending on what the mods were the warranty could have been voided on that one.
