It sounds like that because in real life they sounded like that. The muffler GM put on them was made to restrict the air exit, basically to detune the car from Corvette specs, not to make it sound like a rumbler.

Something different to balance out the ballooning number of Skylines, Evos, NSXs, and RX-7s in every subsequent GT release, perhaps?
Not sure what the fuss is all about; I always thought the Z28 and SS are worthy additions to the game. Don't you want to see what an American car can do against every other car in the game, or are you afarid a Camaro might actually have a little bit more personality to drive?
Sure, the bowtie cars are not the smoothest and easiest cars to drive, but should every car handle the same? Whether it can drift or not doesn't make or break the game; it's about variety. Slapping a bunch of stickers on it or adding a carbon-fiber wing along with a more confusing name doesn't make it a different car.
I'll say it again; duplicate cars for duplicate people.
They didn't sound like that in real life. I know my dad had a 94' Z-28 and it sounded way better than that. It is a worthy car to be in every game, just like R-X7s, Evos, Supras, Skylines and Imprezas are worthy.
