Yes, I admit I'm not fond of bugs whatsoever *shivvers* but I have to know what this is. It was stuck to our bathroom ceiling late last night. I've never seen anything like it in the house before. The body itself much have been at least an inch long.

Anyone?

That looks like a katydid. They are closely related to grasshoppers/praying mantises.

But don't trust me, Im just basing it on looks.

Ahh, a grasshopper. I thought so - but I wondered whether it was possible to find one stuck to your bathroom ceiling. :odd:

Thanks.

Arrrrgh. The disadvantage with living in Australia...

I had two of those grass hopper bugs in my lounge the other day. Be careful because they seem to spray black crap on the ceiling and it's a bugger to get off.

Grasshopper. A bug my dog would eat. A drink I would drink. A cookie I'd eat.

I'm high too...

That bug is definitely a katydid. They hear with their legs.

HA! Im right.

Then again I think grasshoppers ARE katydids and DO hear with ears on their front legs...

Im confused too. And for emphasis, here:

Mr house centipede would like a word with you James.

I've only ever seen one of those in my life. It was enough.

There's another, more interactive one. I'll post that when I find it.

Pshaw. Insects? That's nothing.

I had a cobra in my bathroom once. That was.... pathetic. It was a little baby one and basically died with one stomp.

With the rains coming on, all the teeny tiny baby tree frogs are coming out of the drains and under the doors. Shoot, I just caught one in the bug zapper a few hours ago (I keep it on the floor), made a bang so loud it woke my wife.

Did you guys know we have the biggest moths in the world here? Too bad the roaches are nothing compared to the ones we used to have in New York.

Here are two bugs I often have to put up with, from the usual ant and cricket. A stink bug and a black widow.

There really ARE black widows in SoCal?
AAAH how can I stay away from them?
Oh yeah. I've been around them nearly my entire life. They only come out at night, and are usually never active or aggressive.

You have to keep your work gloves and work shoes inside the house, and even then, you must search your gloves and shoes very carefully before putting them on.

I also have those millipede things, too. But, I rarely ever see them.

and a black widow.

That looks similar to the deadly red-back Spider we get here, unless I go searching through old stuff in the small garage outside I rarely see any.

I've only seen one Redback around my house, it had eggs with it so I was careful not to aggrevate it..

So if all Im doing at night is IMing and GTPing in the safety of my room, Im safe? But if I accidentally brush one thats decided to live near the computer Im dead? :scared:
