Can I have permission to complain about the nascar?

I've have been trying to do the stupid nascar last race for what feels like forever now. I've changed all the lsd and helper things to complete the other races, but I just can't do this last race. I get into first and they slipstream back up to me, then because of the "zombie AI", they crash into me and send me sideways into the wall. I then of course can't catch up because they are all slipstreaming each other. I tried sitting in 2nd place right behind the leader pushing him along with the plan of nipping past him on the last straight, but on lap 7, the guys behind tapped my rear right quarter panel and sent me into the wall again. I've tried this race so many many times I'm ready to fly to America and shoot Jeff Gordon himself for somehow making this poor excuse of a motorsport into my favourite series of game ever.

Does anyone have an idea what I could do? (As I would prefer not to kill anyone or even leave my sofa to be honest!)

Hmmm, I don't mean to come across as rude, but, the racing is similar. Whether you're drafting down the Mulsanne straights, or down the back-straight at Daytona, it's all the same.

In order to win, in NASCAR, you need to keep your momentum up. I just recently got gold in those race events, too. I only need three more gold trophies, before I get my "Gold Standard" trophy.

What I did:

  1. Get on banking QUICKLY! Minimize the damage!
  2. Give the idiot AI lots of extra room; they randomly swerve
  3. Draft while behind them
  4. Don't be afraid to use the brake pedals, to avoid hitting the car in front. A spin costs you more than lifting off of the throttle
  5. Think your passes out, two or three cars in advance; do you pass the guy on the left, or on the right? Which one keeps you in the draft of the other cars for the longest period of time? Which one will cost you the least amount of time?
  6. Run a "flawless" race. If you do really well, there's an extra half-lap... I was in the lead before the final corner

No need to take any big risks. You can stay safely in the back for most of the race and then just slipstream up to the front by the end of the race. As the other cars will catch up quickly, there's no point in taking an early lead. Just make sure you don't fall too far back so you lose the draft. And it's gonna be a close race, so the timing is essential, you need to know exactly when to go for the last overtake - it should be when you have plenty of time to overtake, but not enough time for the others to overtake you back.

I am very think-skinned, so don't worry about being rude (in actual fact I felt you weren't!)

You tips are helpful thank you, I will try them out. Most of them I actual do, but I am still struggling, have just tried another 4 times since I posted. I can get into 2nd and stay there until they (and its guaranteed that they will) take me out. As for staying in first, I can get there and get 2 second lead, but they seem to be able to corner faster than me. I'm using my thumb and forefinger on the joystick to get really accurate and gentle steering adjustments (I use this trick for the licenses and nascar special too), but they still slip-stream me and catch up, them take me out again.

Seems I'm doomed to eternity to die like vin diesels dad in fast and the furious over and over again....

Now I used to have problems on this one, so much so that I put off redoing it (on my second save, first one lost with PS3 RSOD) until last week.

For the championship, I found that ASM (which is the worst driving AID known to man for racing) was forced on for the first race, then for the next 3, it was open, but then for the last race on Daytona, it was forced to whatever you had it in the last race, in my case, off. That could be your problem - being made to use ASM.

Other than that, I had downforce reduced, had the car broken in a little from the previous races to 870BHP, and then I never went down to 2nd once, which surprised me. They were up my jacksie for the whole race but never overtook.

Ibpomg: That maybe be my problem, ill check next time I load the game. I've stopped playing now for fear of throwing my controller out of my 5th floor living room window!
I will also play with the downforce as that hadn't even occurred to me.

Eran: I will also try you suggestion and hope my timing is good

Thanks to all of you for help at this difficult time! ;)

If all else fails, race dirty. It's a good way to take out your frustrations and it can get you the gold. It's a win/win really.

Finally, if you're referring to the A-spec race, and you REALLY can't beat it, do it in B-spec. I still got all of the same stuff.

Just remember, those cars are really heavy.

TheRealNips: Just a thought... do you use the HUD minimap? If you set it at zoom level 2 you can see where all of the AI cars around you are and what they are doing. That might help you prepare for most of the times when they are about to wreck you(and to be ready to jump in front of them and get a boost when they have a head of steam going). A lot easier and less dangerous than driving from rear-view the whole race.

I remember it took a few tries to win this race, mostly just because of them constantly wrecking me. It seems like you spend almost the whole race defending yourself from them and then just pass them on the last 2-3 laps while hoping they don't snatch it away from you at the last moment.

Also, if you don't know - a lot of people suggest setting your brake pressures as low as you can. You don't need the brakes and doing this helps to weaken the effect of the ASM a bit thus making you a little faster. Some also suggest using ABS on 10 having a similar effect I believe.

There are a few threads floating around where this race and the ones from the special event are discussed extensively, you might find some more help in one of those.

I only managed to win this event by turning off everything in the aids section, including the ABS, no idea why, but the car seemed to go faster!

I was actually going to give up on getting a gold in this last NASCAR challenge. I finally got it after many, many fruitless attempts. It needs to be absolutely perfect as there is almost no discernable difference between finishing 5th and 1st. The most important thing initially is to stay latched onto the back of the LOWES car directly ahead of you for the first half lap or so. Then when going down the back straight, try and stay directly behind one car because this gives a stronger slipstream than if you were somewhere in between cars. To go for the gold, you need to dive down the inside into the last corner without touching them.

It's probably one of the toughest aspects of the whole game, this challenge.

I recommend not leading the whole race, just in case you dont have the nascar skills some of us do. On the las lap, just get the draft down the back stretch and pass them getting into turn three. If youre like me, though, you will just have a blast tandem racing with different guys and pass them at the end.

Haha I like that title. I don't think you have to ask permission for anything 👍

In the 2011 Aaron's 499 at Talladega, Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin stayed at the back of the field, waiting to make their move at the end of the race. Next thing you know, on the last lap, they finish in the top 10. It's all about staying behind, waiting to make your move on the last lap of the race.

Yes as you are already aware, in the oval nascar race you've got great difficulty catching up with the opponents because there are not any hot braking spots on the track where you notablly can gain upon the competents by using your own driving techniques, and making things worse, once you stray off the train of slipstreams or get hit in the rear by other AI cars it's nearly impossible to retrieve the gaps any more.

So I recommend you not to put your tandem in danger by attempting to ovetake the adversaries in a crush without dipping yourself in the file of the drafts, and not to lead the lines too long so that other opponents start trying to take back the position. If you want to win the race for sure apart from the risks, you better stay in line with the drafts of other rivals keeping certain distances between them, and getting back to the 1st place at the last corner of the oval after sticking it out behind the head in the drafts' line at the very end of the competition. :)

I think it helps if you shift your weight to the front (This is becuase you'll be less likely to spin), you just got to get in front and always watch your back. I used this song to help me watch my back.

I wouldn't recommend that. if you get hit in the rear, you will get loose. those who cant handle a loose car will have a heck of a time to try to save it....the weight should go right in the middle. I have never messed with the aerodynamics really because im an expert at restrictor plate racing and nascar in general, but in real life the team adjusts the brakes to wear it wont be resting on the wheel because theyre trying to give it as much speed as possible. i guess you can set the brake balance to 1\1.

I noticed when people tried to spin me out they had a hard time doing attempting to while having weight transferred to the front

probobly because you actualy know how to race and keep the car straight. trust me. i know alll about nascar. i dont think pd does though.

Are you serious.PD doesn't know Nascar and your the expert?Really lets see your expert tune.I have never seen you in any Nascar rooms I race in and trust me most of the top Nascar guy's race together.

Okay lets see. Nascar doesnt go 230+ down the back stretch, no sir. and im sure they dont let off the gas in the turns a daytona. they didnt even put the dang restrictor plates on them. And plus most of the things you can do on gt5, you cant do in real life because of the rules and regulations. you can only put one kind of tire on the car and thats whatever nascar asigns for the race weekend. I dont see any wedge adjustments, chassi adjustments, air pressure adjustments, spring rubber adjustments, tape on the grill, ect, in the game. Im not going to nascar technical institute for nothing. next time you want to tell an american that he knows nothing about nascar, just keep your mouth shut. mmkay?

Well what form of any car have you raced other than your lawnmower? Far be it from me to tell an American anything about Nascar cause us up north Igloo living, sled dog driving,Canadians wouldn't know a Nascar from a pick-up. Does racing a Canadian 850 Hp Super Modified car at the Syracuse Fairgrounds count in your book son? Yes I have raced all over Southern Ontario,Western New York and PA in what you would call a Super Modified Nascar. I guess my 43 years of driving Sleds, dirt bikes,go karts motorcycles and race cars would give me no knowledge of what the hell I'm talking about.Sorry for my lack of knowledge about Nascars or any form of racing. Now insert foot and mow the lawn.

first off, i never said anything about canadians. i respect a fellow competitor. i get mad when people question my knowledge about something that i have been involved with literally my entire life.

Am I assuming you thought that red and white flag with the red maple leaf smack dab in the middle meant China? If you want wedge, tape, spring rate, tire pressure, etc, etc, etc, go play Nascar the game by Eutechnyx. Boy those guy's sure know how to make an officially licensed Nascar game don't they. Nascar actually let them release that piece of junk to the paying public.
