im really looking forward to playing gt5 prologue on my ps3 when its available here but i don't want to upgrade. i once heard of this glitch to bypass it using resistance fall of man and will this work with gt5 prologue??
Yeah not been any problems with the patch and as Famine says it upgrades the PS3 into a profile 2.0 BD player 3 months before a profile 2.0 player is due in the shops! Get it updated, if theres some reason like the PSP firmware issues then it's prety pointless with the BD disc formats, just put one of the many free Linux OS on your PS3 if you want to have a play with custom apps.
The most recent firmware release, 2.17, went live late last week and didn't obviously do all that much, although Sony subsequently told us that it enabled multiplayer support in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
It's very rare updates screw up on the PS3 if that's your worry. It's not like on the X360 where it just "patches" the software, it completely re-installs the firmware from scratch so there's none of those issues.
And as previously said, you need at least v2.17 to play Prologue.
Can this update be dowloaded on a PC and then loading into the PS3? I just moved and don't have internet at my house, but I have access at work. Would I be able to save the file to a USB flash drive or something and then update my PS3 that way?
I think you can do that with a USB device. It asks when updating if you are useing the internet or a USB device. I'm sure the Sony site has info on this. Its a bit risky forcing gamers to have firmware upgrades for newer games, since some may not have internet or PC access. I like it though, kinda ensure all PS3s are running properly.
