Hey got a ps3 for crimbo!

Hated the thing for a few days :nervous: but i love it now one prob im sharing it!:grumpy:

So wondering if you can put passwords on the users and split the hard drive for the users?

Thankies!

Yes and no, you can create alternate users like if you are sharing with your brother you can make one for him and one for you both using different PSN IDs but he can log onto yours without a password. If you create your PSN and he creates his, you can set it so that it does not log in automatically so that he needs your password, but that is only for online. If you play a game on your user and he plays it on his, you will have different saved game files so unless he wants to play yours, he would probably stay in his user.

Every user on a PS3 already has a password. When you start a new user account, part of the set-up procedure is putting in a password.

If you have multiple user accounts for different people, and you want to keep others from using other accounts, first be sure that you do not have that account set for Automatic Login. After that, go to the "Friends" menu in the XMB and highlight your online PSN name, then press the triangle button.

Be sure to turn off the Auto Sign-In option (it will be shaded if it's off). Then Sign out. Now go to the PlayStation Network menu in the XMB and sign in.

Now you will see a pop-up window showing your sign-in ID (email address) and password ******.

If you uncheck the box that says "Save Password", then no one can access that account without first putting in the password.

As for splitting the internal hard drive, as far as I know you can't. That said, if there is some files you want to use on the PS3 that you don't want others to have access to, your best solution is to buy an external USB drive. They are very cheap these days, and then you'll be able to control who has access to those files.

The following thread may help in that regard:

I thought that if you had a game saved on one user, the same game save would not be able to be played on the other users on the PS3. If you create separate users though, there is no way of stopping them from going onto your user, you are only able to stop them from going onto your PSN account.

Good point. Yes, the password is only for protecting your online account, so someone could use another account to play games offline.

If you are worried about someone messing up your game saves, they are very easy to copy and save either with other accounts, or as files on a memory card or external HD.

Also if you are sharing the PS3 with someone else, you must know them quite well to share a game console with them especially a PS3. My point is if you know someone well enough to share a console with them, why would they do something like go out of their way to mess around with your game saves?

Not saying sharing a PS3 is like a huge step in relationship or anything  but unless you are roommates, most people don't share them.

Well, theres not much you can do in ways of passwords to protect your game saves. Maybe you could both agree not to do anything to each others files and if he deletes some of yours, delete some of his. You could also save files onto an external HDD and try and hide it or something so that he couldnt mess with it.

Is he younger or older than you? You could always fight him if he tries to mess with your game files but you should try to come to some sort of agreement with him. Deleting your game files for no reason is pretty cold, I can't really see my brothers doing that to me for no reason. If that did happen I would have to open a can of whoop-ass.

Try to talk to your parents to prevent something like that from happening.

The solution has already been posted...

You could also invest in a USB flash drive - you can get 2Gb from Tesco for a tenner - and, when you're done playing, copy your saves to the flash drive.

Also kick your brother square in the nuts.
