Can someone explain me something

I've read alot of negatives comments from this communicty concerning the "ricers". What do you consider as "Ricer" ? Someone that do body mod to their car or does it include thoses who make modification by adding turbo, supercharger etc, etc..

I think that GT4 has alot of the "ricers" philosophy with car modification and recently added "NOS" but yet still it's being bash here has being something wrong to enjoy. I think car is an art form and enjoy is every single aspect, including body mods and engine mods. it's an extension of what the original designer thoughts.

Chip Foose, which i think is the best body mods designer, has create some of the best afterparts and modification I ever seen. It was litteraly a work of art.

So again, why the negatives comments regarding "ricers" ?
 
simple: if you do body mods or add stickers or put in a sound system and say that it makes your car faster, then thats rice.
 
oh god as if we dont get enough of this stuff in the live for speed rsc forums...

i havent heard anyone say anything about rice in here though..
 
^ Not exactley, saying this makes your car faster has nothing to do with "rice" as people call it. I think I would be closer by saying ricing up your car is by adding non-functional parts, or parts that don't improve performance. Installing an ICE system is IMO not rice, it's simply improving the sound in your car, putting on a bodykit that looks good/bad dependingon what your tastes are, for looks alone is rice.

I didn't really understand the concept of "ricers" myself. My understanding of it was that any car that has added superchager turbos, nos, rims, massive t - bars etc is a ricer - but thats only an educated guess .

I mainly assocaite "ricers" with americans dunno why that is probably basing the sterotype due to the sudden influx of films based on street racing e.g Fast and Furious etc.

That Prelude over there is nice, but this here Civic ain't nothin but a rice mobile


They get a lot of negative comments directed towards them because, for starters, they think sticking a massive spoiler on a Honda Civic will actually improve performance. They also recieve lots of negative attention because lots of their bodykits that they tend to use are extremely ugly and hideous, and make a car look like an abomination.
 
A ricer is someone that makes there car look fast by adding things such as big exhaust tips, body kits, and huge wings. To make there engine look powerful billet and anodized parts are added, some parts are spray painted with glossy neon colors. In the end the car could turn out to be even slower, with the added weight of the body kit and extra weight and drag from usually oversized wings. On the other end there are tuners, these people still up grade the looks of there car the way ricers do, but also add upgrades such as headers, air intakes, cat-back exhaust systems and sometimes a turbo charger. If all this is done professionaly you could have a pretty fast car that has good looks to.
 
I guess the word "rice" originates from a disrespectful way of directing towards the Japanese? They eat rice and are the ones who started to give their rides cosmetic modifications..... as far as I know anyway. :S

That is my car. I think it is semi-rice. But IMO it looks nice, im selling it anyways to get some money. But garsh my car isn't that bad looking is it? I added a front bumper b/c my old one was cracking and the bodykit was cheaper than a real honda bumper. Anyways everyone and their grandma has a civic so I wanted mine to look a little different.
 
chip foose and ricers are very different lol. chip foose is an amazing artist and designer and ricers are fags that want to be special, and usually have more money than brains
 
civic above is not rice.

Also, adding a supercharger does not make your car rice.

I think that being a ricer involves trying to trick the ignorant into thinking that you have a fast car when you do not.

nah you are all missing the point. A ricer, also known as chav in the UK, is a lifestyle. They generally dont know **** about cars and engines, but they hang with their cru, and modify their machines to crooze the streets of the local town centre. They have their stereos up loud, and they fit 20" spinners to their Hondas because its the latest thing in the hip hop scene. they wear excess jewellery, because Mr T is still cool, but to rice/chav up a car, is to do it simply for the image, rather than as a hobby or sport. a person who "rices up" cars is likely to attach a huge wing to the boot, because someone told him it was cool to do so, and the graphics down the sides are extra cool because he saw them in the fast and the furious.
 
I've done a good amount of stuff to my car but nothing much to change the look of it, maybe the big BBS wheels but I got them at a good price and they are lighter than my stock tires. Most of my money has been spent in the suspension of the cars with springs, shocks and big rear sway bar and taking out the front one. This summer i will do some small motor stuff and i hope to get 220 whp. I dont want too much power becuase it is only fwd.

My friend (03 Evo 8 Greddy stage 3 turbo/bo valve/intercooler, AEM intake, ACT racing clutch, Carbon hood GT spoiler and fender flares) loves racing civics around here because they all suck. Other cars are also rice but to agree with most of the above posts, a ricer is a car that looks fast and is not period.
 
Oh boy... where to begin...

"Rice" itself was used to describe Japanese cars with the aforementioned tacky mods. Nowadays it refers to any car with such mods. Rice is also an attitude, too. People who own stock cars can possess this attitude as well. It's usually an over abundance of arrogance and the thought that their car cant be beat and fast and etc etc.. Unfortunately, there's alot of misinformed people in this world, who belive that "Rice" refers to any car with a Japanese nameplate. This obviously is not what the word refers to, but it's been used this way.(a great example of an ignorant person who uses the word "rice" the wrong way be the post above mine;))


Also, there is a huge difference between a clean looking car and a ricey/gawdy/tacky car.
 
My neighbor drives a 99 Accord V6. He has a body kit, a crappy intake, and some cheap headlights. He tried racing an RSX down the drag strip and he got burned. It's funny because he's always talking about how his Accord could beat my Lancer ES, when I haven't even done anything to it. I guess it's just to make himself feel good.
 
Beutiful Golf you got there turbo-d. If you want some more horsepower take a look at the Neuspeed sport chip, the re-map your cars computer and squeez every bit of horsepower VW didnt let you have out of it. lol haha, never seen a spoiler on the hood of the car. I guess the new style is limited visibilty.

let me add on to this.. well correct in a way?

the word "ricer" comes from the word(s) "Rice Burner" which came from WWII japanese and such bombers that used rice oil to fuel some of their planes since they were cut off from supplies (thanks to us).

how it went from planes to cars... i have noooo idea

I just want to add some of my own thing abour "ricers" I find that they usually dont know much about cars is because they usually refuse to take automechanic classes. Now why? :odd: Because they think the class is not worth their time because THEY THINK they know alot about cars already. That is why I think they usually only do the very simple mods because they don't posses enough knowledge and skills to do the tougher mods like the internals of the engine.

I also find that most of them would have this "stuck-up" attitude thinking that their car makes them look high class and can beat anything out on the street...until they get stomp on very hard....make excuses...do "ricer-flyby" and claim they won the race to their friends....

Personally, I dont think they street race as much as they claim to. Its usually only those with serious stuff under the hood. A typical ricer I see will OFTEN refuse to race any car that is "higher tier" than theirs...EX: Supra, Skyline, RX-7, Camaro/Firebird, Corvette, Ferrari, Porche etc. :O

Actually, I could make a speculation on that! :O I read this joke from somewhere about the term "ricer" Its something like this:

"You are a Ricer IF a WWII veteran jumps for shelter as they here your Civic come near". Something like that! :O

Ain't it the truth?

Ricers are also characterised by guys wearing FUBU clothing and a row of dents along the front and rear bumpers.
 
The term ricer originates from people who were putting extreme front tire camber angles on thier cars. The angle is well beyond a performance adjustment.
 
Can someone explain to me what the point of this thread is, given its location and regurgitated subject matter?
