You know, I think the very first post's link is highly purposeful. It made me realize how bad of drivers are present in England. If you really need bike-specific lanes on the road, then maybe your drivers are completely unable to not hit a biker. Or maybe your bikers need some discipline. Or maybe your ancestors should have though a little before they made their roads 4 feet wide those thousands of years ago. My city does just fine without bike lanes. We have sidewalks. I ride in the road very often and I haven't found a need for special lanes. Innercity traffic moves so slow anyway that all bikers need to do is follow the same rules as the cars and everything is hunky dory. Works for me.
