I called the Future Shop in Oshawa, and I was told "It ships tomorrow, and they'll have it by thursday." I'm going to do more calling around tomorrow to some other places.
 
I swear, no retailer around here (Windsor) has a clue what is going on. I called ToysRus first, because this is where I got Halo2, at 12:02am the day of release :)

ToysRus:
Me: Hi I was just wondering when you'll be getting copies of Gran Turismo 4 in?
Clerk:I really have no clue, I think its coming out around March or April. They keep pushing it back, I think there gonna release it around the summertime.
Me: Really? Because the North American release date is tommorow, and most stores are supposed to release it tommorow?
Clerk: Well I don't know about that, it doesn't say anything on our computer, so I don't think we're getting anything...sorry.
Me: Thanks anyways...bye.

So I call Wal-Mart next, figuring I better call someplace where they aren't going to be flooded with pre-orders.

Wal-Mart:
Me: Hi I was just wondering when you'll be getting copies of Gran Turismo 4 in?
Clerk: We're supposed to get some in tommorow, but I think its just promotional, so we might have about ten copies.
Me: That's it? Okay, thank you...bye

So with nobody knowing when a half-decent shipment is coming in, I figure i'd call the Sony Store. It is where I bought my original copy of Gran Turismo 1.

SonyStore:
Me: Hi I was just wondering when you'll be getting copies of Gran Turismo 4 in?
Clerk: I don't know for sure. I don't think they're releasing it until the end of March. I can tell you when they release the PSPortable, its sometime near the end of March.
Me: O...k....Thanks anyways...bye.

Even a subsidiary of Sony doesn't even know what's going on. Time to move up to the big stores. So I break down and call Best Buy.

BestBuy:
Me: Hi I was just wondering when you'll be getting copies of Gran Turismo 4 in?
Clerk: We're supposed to be getting some in tommorow, I don't know if we have gotten any in yet. Give me a second, i'll run to the back and go check. (Insert Minute Wait) Ok, we don't have any in yet, but usually these big game shipments will come in sometimes late at night or early in the morning, so call back in the morning and we'll know for sure.
Me: Ok, thanks alot, bye.

Best buy was the most helpful. So I call Futureshop next. I get about the same story from them, seeing that they are like a sister-store to BestBuy, this doesn't surprise me.

I call EBGames last, holding out for some hopeful good news.

EBGames:
Me: Hi I was just wondering when you'll be getting copies of Gran Turismo 4 in?
Clerk: Yeah, i've got the release date down as tommorow, but we haven't gotten any in yet. I would expect them to come in around Wednesday, at 10:30am. Call back then we should hopefully have a shipment.
Me: Okay, thank you...bye.

As a last ditch I called Blockbuster, hoping they'll have something tommorow.

Me: Hi I was just wondering when you'll be getting copies of Gran Turismo 4 in?
Clerk: They are supposed to ship to us tommorow, but we haven't got anything yet. We might have some tommorow or on Wednesday, but we don't know for sure. Call back tommorow and we'll know more.
Me: Okay, thank you, bye.

Okay, now I think I called a few other smaller stores, but I got the same response from them all. They were all unsure of when they were going to get shipments of the game, unsure if the game was ever going to be released, and out of the loop as far as information goes. I mean when Halo2 came out, it was big, everybody knew everything. You'd call a store and the clerk would talk your ear off about pre-orders, release date, pricing, special editions, the color and make of transport truck it arrived on. You ask them about Gran Turismo 4 and its like they've never heard of it. It's ridiculous the lack of information these retailers have the night before release of one of the biggest releases this year. Truly, truly sad, and irritating.

I guess I'll be calling BestBuy, FutureShop, and EBGames, tommorow. Hell, I'll give BBuster a call too. I'm tired of waiting...and I am more than irritated that the game will be released tommorow across the country and nobody around here knows what's going on :grumpy:

They are in Ottawa..

On the topic.. i went to 4 stores after work.. Future Shop who had said this afternoon (monday) said they would get it thursday probably..

3 other stores (toyrus, local video game store, local video renting place) said they would have it shipped tomorrow but probably on shelves on the 23rd. So I'm sure "somewhere" will have it tomorrow

Yeah tell me about it.. I don't understand no one can get a accurate date.. I mean the release date was today, how they still aren't sure.. not like its unimportant title
 
I guess I'm pretty lucky. I live 10 min. away from the Best Buy Distribution center. So I'm sure the best buy where I live will have it ASAP. Also the EB Canadian head office is just down the street from there, I believe it's a distribution center as well, but I'm not entirely sure. One or the other will have it most definately.

Unfortunately I work 45 min. away from where I live so hopefully they'll have it in this area when i go for lunch.

I give up, i'm gonna call Blockbuster back around 3 and see what the verdict is. I am seriously pissed right now. I live in one of the biggest trade routes between the Canada and USA. Thousands upon thousands of trucks pass through our borders every hour. And your telling me not one of them has a shipment of my favourite game coming to a local store, pure blasphemy :yuck:
 
"Sony missed their shipping by 30 minutes this morning, so they'll be shipping it out tommorow morning. They're all still at our warehouse". That was the statement I got from EBGames here in Canada. Kinda odd don't you think. How does a giant company like Sony "miss" a shipping schedule. I hope somebody gets fired for that one, if its even true. (Growing more and more angry with each passing minute without GT4!?!)
 
Last week on Friday I went into the local Best Buy here in the Mississauga / Oakville Ontario area, and the stupid a-hole working in the games department didn't even know it was coming out in four days. They gave me my favourite entry-level employee advice:

"Best thing to do is call on the Tuesday and see if we have it in."

Thanks, I could have figured that out on my own. So today I went to Wal-Mart, which had NO clue about anything pertaining to GT4 (I got the blank stare when I asked about it), then to Best Buy, where the SONY REPRESENTATIVE was there and even she didn't know when the game would arrive at the store (she said, "A day or two probably.")

Finally I went to EB Games, and the guy was the first knowledgeable person I spoke to. He said they were getting their shipment around noon and I could reserve one for a down payment. He said they'd call me when it comes in, and so far I haven't heard from them (it's 12:30 now". But I'll go check in person around 3:30 this afternoon and see what's happening...

4. They don't offer any official explanation as to why

Anyone else in Canada having as much fun as me trying to locate a copy of this game?

I just call again my video game store and the game is coming directly from Toronto and should be in around 6pm EST. (they sent a guy to pickup some copy). The only problem is only pre-order will be able to pick up a copy today. Thank God i did last week :)
 
Dude, I have one piece of advice for you. SCREW BLOCKBUSTER. I used to work there, my brother still works there, and I can tell you that they have NO idea when they are getting anything regarding video games. The shipments for Blockbuster come on THURSDAYS ONLY, and the prep everything in time for the following Tuesday releases. They won't have it until Thursday or Friday at the earliest. I suspect whoever told you about this magic 3pm shipment is one of the several morons who work for the company, and who I had the pleasure of trying to "manage," as their supervisor.

Blockbuster sucks. They are a MAJOR monopoly and their DVD prices are a joke. Why give them any business at all?
 
59.99 at EB in Ontario. Just waiting for my call to pick up my copy... they expected it to be in this afternoon, which is great cause i'm stuck at work all day anyway!

EB Games has a couple of tantilizing promos from 02/22/05 to 02/27/05.

Purchase GT4 and the Logitech DFP and get a FREE memory card (It looks to be the Sony brand in the picture! But I'm looking into the GT4 Special edition memory card from LikSang.)

I'll probably get THIS promotion though:

trade 5 gamecube, ps2 or xbox games and get the DFP for 99.99. Dustin off all my platformers!!

i'll post the advertisement pic when i get on my home computer!
 
Bought it just after 12 at the EB on Appleby and Dundas.

$60 and change.

Gturismo1 - The distribution center is just 10 min. from where I live for both EB and Best Buy (You can walk from one to the other)

It's a long drive up to windsor.
 
Nice so finally someone got one!

I will redo all my calls today before leaving work so that i dont have to redo them all again.. Ill check Futureshop, Bestbuy, Blockbuster, Walmart, Toyrus, Local video game store and Microplay.. I doupt bestbuy or futureshop will get it but anyway, ill start with toyrus..

Just got the call from EB at Scarborough Town Centre as promised, they will have my Pre-Order copy ready to go at 5:00pm today.

I have to say the guys over there are definitely Top Notch. Very knowledge and ALWAYS follow up to all of my inquiries.

FYI: The Strategy Guide will not be in until later in the week.

i just picked up my copy at Wal-Mart for $57.83 CAD. EB was selling it for $59.99. 2 bucks in my pocket :sly:

imma go pop this baby in my PS2 and give it a spin. later all :)
