I'm in the market to apply to universities right now. So far I'm thinking of 2 in Minnesota, to keep it local, and 2 in Canada, which coincidentally are in Nova Scotia. I'm thinking of applying to St. Mary's University and St. Francis Xavier, both of which I hear have good reputations for business. If I thought I stood a chance of getting into UToronto's commerce school (and if the application fee wasn't so bloody expensive) I would consider applying there as well, but it seems to me that StFX's credentials are pretty good, and that they have a nice campus (I still need to visit it physically though). But on the other hand, St. Mary's U has co-ed steam rooms & saunas (since when did they become educational?) Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? Also, what would be the odds for someone like myself to get into them (and particularly, their business schools?)

My accomplishments are as follows:

30 on ACT
1200 on SAT (would I have to let them know either ACT or SAT scores?)
Member of NHS
Youth President of *city's name* Youth Coffeehouse Initiative, spending around 2 hours a week on a normal week
Bank tellar at M&I, with about 17 hours a week on average
3.9GPA on 4.0 scale
Courses taken this year:

AP Macro Economics (1 quarter)
AP Micro Economics (1 quarter)
Honors English 12 (2 quarters)
AP US Government (1 quarter)
Adv. Foods (1 quarter)
Adv. Photo 2 (1 quarter)
Sociology (1 quarter)

Courses I plan to take next semester as post-secondary enrollment opportunity:
Calculus 2
Physics
2 other classes to fill up unused credits

Now, am I also right in thinking that both of those schools are about $18k CA (Or around $14US?) or are they using non-canadian currency for their prices?

And would I need a student visa in order to study there if I came home for Christmas holiday?

You should apply at the university in my home town, the university of guelph, every time they do the polls on the best university its alwas in the top 3. Last year it was 2 and the year or 2 before it was number one. The campus is also amazing, its green and has hundreds of trees, and everone is so freindly. Also the teachers are really good i hear.

Thats true, the University of Guelph always gets good reviews, maybe you should check on it?

Guelph has an excellent business program

If you want to add in a tech twist to your business degree, I'd strongly reccomend the IT Management program at Ryerson University. It's more or less a business degree but you get IT studies with it.

Ryerson also has a regular Business Management program which ranks amongst the best in canada... or at least that's what the profs here say.

You may also want to consider the following schools:
York University
McMaster - has some good stuff
Waterloo University - Their accounting science program is rediculously brutal
Sheridan College
University of Toronto

Of these, Ryerson, McMaster, and UT are probably your best choices. Sheridan is also good... but I'm not sure how good they are. If cost is an issue, ryerson would probably be the most affordable.

If you want a nice landscape and such, you might as well completely forget about UT and Ryerson. Both universities have their main campuses in the core of downtown toronto. Personally, I prefer that since everything I could ever want is within walking distance or is easily accessible by public transportation.

Thanks, I'll have to look into Ryerson and Guelph, which provinces are they in? I suppose I could look that up easily when I get the time. I would like to go to Waterloo, York, or UToronto, but I know I wouldn't stand a chance (Only got 3's on my AP tests for US History and European History, and I only got a 1200 on my SAT, although I got a 30 on the ACT, it still wouldn't hold up). Nice scenery isn't a necessity, but having a nice campus is definately a major plus on my grading list. If I could get into a great school that was in the cities, I would definately consider it. I know the University of Minnesota has a great Business school as well as a pretty good IT school, and it's close to my house (roughly 30 miles), but I also want to see what else is out there, and if I can go to an out-of-state school for the same price, I figure, why not?

Thanks for the suggestions and the info so far, I'll be sure to follow up here.

Both Ryerson and Guelph are in Ontario. Ryerson is in Downtown toronto and is relatively close to UT while Guelph is roughly a 1.5 hour drive out of toronto
