Gruesome crash somewhere in Brazil. Looks like it caught fire as well. I have omitted the pictures that show lots of blood and body parts. If you must see them, email me.

Holy crap. Cancel my order indeed...

Smart? That looks like a Cross Fox to me... Or is Smart the car's name over there?

Edit: Actually, that is a Cross Fox and the accident was here in Brazil. The license plate is from here.

Then that's actually not a smart car. It's this one, right? Volkswagen?

The smart has a full roll cage. 5th gear should do another test on it against a semi-truck like this one.

Yup, that's the one, Omnis.

And I'm sure the pics are from Brazil, don't worry kenny. Judging by the colors of the Police car that happened in the state of São Paulo.

It looks like this guy tried to pass on a two lane highway. I never do it. It's safer to be late.

THANK you. I spent ages on wreckedexotics the other night wondering why a Touareg looked so small...

That's really nasty, though. The truck just demolished it. Doesn't look so tough now...

So Mr. Brazil, which side of the road was the correct side of the road for them to be on? Is it plausible that the VW was trying to pass?

I just did a lot of digging, and didn't find a news article on this accident. However, I did find these two links which may be of interest:

how about an h1, id like to see how that would hold up. not that im saying its definitely going to hold up, im just interested because it is so much tougher than the h2

CrossFox vs Semi? Would anyone have put money on the VW? I'm surprise that it coiled up that much, but when you're in a head-on with a Semi, someone is probably going to die... No matter what you're in.

...When I was in the near head-on with my Fox ('93 mind you) it crumpled up pretty well, and that was with a Chevrolet Cavalier...

Really, you're not safe in anything when you've got that much room to go under something, be it a Semi or a School Bus. Momentum is going to push the car underneath it, no matter how big it is.

BTW: I wouldn't call the H1 tougher than an H2, "purpose built" is a better way to describe it. With more surface area on an H2, you're likely to be safer in an accident against one than you would with an H1, given that you aren't going to be going underneath it.

yes, but the h2 is absolutely rubbish. I doubt the h2 is as well structurely built as the h1 or humvee is.

I do agree with the momentum thing you said though, nothing is safe if your going to something of much greater mass and ride height

I found some news about this on the Live For Speed Brazilian forum.

According to the truck driver the man driving the Fox changed lines on purpose and didn't attempt to brake at all. Police said his girlfriend told they had a fight just before and he left home very upset. It also said he was ill with depression.

So it seems he did it on purpose. The guy was 25 years old and had a 7 year old daughter.

And this happened last december.

lol, on that spansih site they said... EMO... lol, yeah, i saw a whole torso in one of the pics, in the car, crumpled, you se the man's nipple.

That's so sad! :( I cannot fathom that. He screwed over at *least* three people whose lives will never be the same.

The pictures I didn't show you are much worse.

If you head-on a semi at highway speed, I don't think it matters what you might be driving. You'll be extremely lucky to make it out of an accident like that.

My coworker's son was in a similar accident a few years ago. They were driving a Ford Ranger Pickup with the extra cab, I think total of four people in it. Driver dozed off at the wheel, went into the oncoming lane, right into one of those cab-over trucks. I believe the two in the front were both killed instantly, and two other were life-flighted to the hospital. One of those actually came out OK, my coworker's son ended up in a vegetative state.

It happened to a real nice kid, real nice family.
