Any1 got any hints or tips 4 me, jus need this 2 complete the game, jus h8 the uneven handling of the ruf rgt. on the road u gets loads of understeer, if u hit a bump strip u got to go easy on the gas or sountersteer before you pulnge in to a spin. HELP!

:banghead:

First: save your best lap replay and race the ghost. That way, you'll be able to tell where improvements are made.

Second: be very gentle with the throttle. The RGT's front end will come right up if you hit the gas too hard. I might also suggest that you use the right analog stick for gas and brake. Fine control is much easier.

Third: get your braking done before the turn. Then, lift off of the brake very gently as you turn in. This helps keep the nose planted.

Fourth: Practice!! CS is a big track. Memorizing it takes more than a few laps.

Of course, I haven't beaten CS yet myself. But I am down to a 4.54.xxx, so it will happen soon enough.

Just keep doing lots of laps, until you get a real hang of every little bit of the track...run faster cars as well, so it feels real slow and you can turn a bit easier...;)

After you've done enough runs that you memorized the track, it's good to go back and watch the demo a few times, then you can get a good idea of what the demo is doing differently to get the gold time. Just keep track of what speed the demo is entering turns at, and see what parts it gains the most time on your best lap ghost. This is true for any License Test or Time Trial.

I got 4:51.845 on Complex String. You can gain a LOT of time on the demo car in the first series of curves. Slow down to 50 for the first hairpin, then just stay on the gas. Work on getting a rhythm, and you can stay at 108-110mph through the whole series of curves, and you'll be 1.7 - 2.0 sec ahead of the demo car at the end of the first section (depending on how well you nail that final hairpin). Don't watch the track -- watch the cones at the apex of each corner.

Watch the demo for the IB-6 license test. That's exactly how you should be doing the beginning of Complex String. It'd be a good idea to get at least silver in IB-6 before you try Time Trial 10.

4:51 wouldn't have been good enough to beat the AI in the PAL version, we have to beat a 4:49 I think...I got a 4:45-46 as I recall...Took bloody ages as well.

Here's a post I wrote a little while back.
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?postid=588346#post588346

Here's a few suggestions:
1. Watch the demo and memorize the checkpoint times.

2. Ghost is optional, some people like them, I find them to be a distraction.

3. Attack the course by section. It's a 4 minutes+ course, it would easier to master if you train yourself one section at a time. I broke it down by checkpoints since it's easier to monitor your progress that way. You should consistently beat/match the checkpoint time before you move on to practice the next section.

4. There's more emphasis in exit speed on this course than most of the other courses. Pay attention the demo's speed during and coming out of turns and memorize it for the section you're practicing for. The demo is ran pretty conservatively (At least in the NTSC version, but the word bloody suggests that you're British and therefore PAL...) so you can beat the demo's turning and exit speed by 1-2 mph in most cases.

5. Patience. Don't just try to beat the time. There're things to be learned from this time trial that will make you a better driver.

But do you realize that on the NTSC version you can't turn ASM off? The RGT handles a LOT better without it. Just look at how much easier IB-7 is than IB-6, because the ASM is off.

You can't? Mate, that would be pretty crap, ASM slows people down heaps...:|

If I could have turned ASM off I would have beaten it easily. DAMN THAT UNDERSTEER!!!

Is that true!!!?? you must drive tt10 with asm on in the ntsc version?

The asm can be a real pain in the ass sometimes.. e.g. in GTC license test with the Audi TT DTM on Midfield II in the last right-left before the final 180 turn asm dropped the speed with 30-40 km/h when turning there - I was so mad until I discovered that I could turn it off and at once the lap was 4-5 secs faster!

...that might explain why some (most) of the tests on the NTSC version are a lot slower than ours...
either that or they cant drive;) (j/k)

Yeah, we get no choice about ASM/TCS for the Time Trials and License tests. ASM in particular is the bugger.

Here's my take on the Complex String Trial (repost):

Almost every turn - and certainly every tight turn - is critical, due to the following straights. The first turn can be a solid foundation for a good run. I brake firmly about halfway between the first two brake markers, downshifting slowly rather than jamming the gears down. A little Scandinavian Flick while the car still has momentum and a goose in 2nd gear gets it rotated and ready to accelerate.

I hold third through the Slalom until the very end. The first right can be taken flat out; then immediately after each apex lift for just a fraction and start turning into the next curve before you complete the current one. You should already be turning into the next curve right after you apex this one. The last two are a little wonky and even though you'll be nudging the rev limiter, don't upshift to 4th until you apex the next-to-last cone (a right). Take the last one flat out in 4th and edge the grass on the right, but brake early for the exit 90 and get a hard late-apex in second gear. This gave me a T1 time in the 50.high" range IIRC.

The Box turns can really make or break a run. On numerous occasions I came into this section 0.5x"-1.x" ahead on my T1 time, only to leave that section with red numbers on my T2. For some reason, successfully completing that section but losing time was more frustrating than blowing it by driving too aggressively. I will offer two points here: you want to exit the second half of each corner pair tight rather than wide, to give you the most room to get the car shifted over to the opposite rotation. Also, going too deep over the corner curbs will bounce the rear of the car, a risky proposition that occasionally pays off but usually means a FAIL or else time lost trying to gather it up again. I believe I had a T2 time of about 2':00" on the money.

For the Bubbles, I stay in first for the first turn-and-a-half, second for the second turn-and-a-half, and third for the third turn-and-a-half, upshifting to 4th when I can start to see daylight. Again, the key is to exit tight to give the most breathing room for the transition to the next turn. Adjust your line with sharp but brief lifts to tuck the nose in, then get back on the gas hard.

I downshifted to 4th and turned left on the upsweep of the first Hoopdie, then tried to hold 4th flat out through this whole section. The car was not too happy on the compression phase of the first turn but otherwise it was remarkably composed. You are totally dependent on course notes here because the only way to survive is to turn in blind before the suspension unloads. If you're out of shape here a slight lift will help, but try to minimize it to carry maximum speed. The chute leading out of this section is deceptively short, so brake almost as soon as the car recovers from the last turn, in preparation for the upcoming double-apex left 180.

The only trick left is to brake early for the little offset in the middle of the next-to-last straight, in order to smooth out that combination as much as possible, again by clipping the corners.

The RGT is perfectly suited to this track and challenge. Both the course and the car demand a lot but give a lot back. Having spent about 3 hours on this (almost my only exposure to CS), I never really got frustrated and was able to watch a steady drop of 10 or 11 seconds from my first completed lap to success.

I just love that track because it has every thing, long flat out straights, corners that tighten/open, 90 rights/lefts, fast sweeping corners, and an uphill down dale slalom, FANTASTIC

Course notes! Give us course notes!

Havent you just done that above?

Its been that long since ive run TT10 that i couldnt tell what i did
You know run it, beat it, forget it? Thats what Ive done

Yeah, but I want yours, 'cause you're way faster than I am!

 first time ive ever been called that :)
thanks for the compliment, may just do a run now in the next couple of days, just for you duke 👍

EDIT: just for intrest sake, how fast have you run there?

I love Complex String. It has everything you can put in a racetrack.

Only advice i can give you is to run it a couple of times and really memorize the track. After a while you will know each corner and the perfect line.

Or get yourself a X-port and view some of these awsome 4'39.xxx runs

I was the same for so long i was allways finnishing short by 1 second or so, but just keep at it the time will drop i guarantee it ;)

My best so far is 4.44.7XX it never came easy though a lot of practise..

But i still say get a X-port you will be glad you did , i can't believe how much my driving has improved over the last couple of weeks after viewing MIH's, Mr P's ,Flinx's among loads of others superb replays 👍

Oh and welcome to GTPlanet Yazza 👍 ;)

I think I spent two 90-minute sessions there for TT10, which were pretty much my only exposure to the whole lap of CS. I quit as soon as I managed NTSC Gold (remember we have no choice - maximum ASM/TCS) with a 4':51.low" time.

So I haven't made any effort beyond what was required. I'm holding a stock RGT in reserve to run it without "driver interference" after I get to 100%. Anybody know what tires are on the TT10 car?

Here you can find a video of an old TT10 run by Mr.P

He improved his time by 2 more seconds after this video, but ít's very helpfull to find the perfect line.

EDIT: Hmmm, the link doesn't work. Allright, then just go to www.davidanderson.org.uk and loook under videos - page 2 - Mr.P

@ neon_duke.. The tyres i believe are just standard road tyres.. but i could be wrong...Is there any way this could be checked in Arwins replay manager..? i know that you can check the settings etc of a car from a xps ,sps replay in Arwins programme..but i dont know how to do it yet :(

just watched Ron's replay on the forementioned site, Unreal the scary thing is a could see where he could (and no doubt has) made up the time

Well, I looked at Mr. P's runs for TT10 and TT07. It seems I do the same things he does... he's just so much better at it than I am! He's got me by almost 5 seconds at GV, and about 10 seconds at CS on those runs. I was hoping for revelations but didn't find any.
:(

A quick question please. On this "Time trial" is that the same as our PAL "Time Attack"? If so what is the point of racing in it?

Sorry about being off topic.

Yes, it is the same.

The point of racing it is that you need to have the first place time on all ten Time Trials to reach 100%.
