Just completed the GT-R record trophy and is watching the replay through the free cam and my gosh, could just as well have been the real thing right there. Looks phenomenal.

I re-bought this game after having traded it in a while ago, and I admire it a whole lot more now than I did when I first got it. I might be late to the party here, and I know that the standards and some tracks aren't as beautiful, but the thing I'm watching right now is nothing less of a masterpiece.

I guess I had to play another game's (that shall not be mentioned) version of the ring to realize that GT5 is miles ahead in terms of visuals, big time.

Yeah, the trees really detract from the visual experience for me.

Trees, people, 80% of the cars, several of the track models and textures, and the rain.

Here's a screenshot taken directly from GT5's photo mode and uploaded directly from XMB to Picasa. This should be a GT3 screenshot, but it's GT5.

We all know that.
Yeah gt5 can look terrible at some points, but when it does look good (the new stuff not the old filler) it blows almost everything else away.

A glass of single malt usually fixes the bad graphics.

OT- Yes, it's better than most, better than anything I've had before.

Grateful.

Hahahahahaha amen...but yeah that picture - downright horrid. Surprised they even thought they could include that.

"Can't get over how good this game looks "

Wait till getting lvl 30+ A-B Spec. Then you'll get over it :)

I am 32 A-Spec, and I am still amazed by the graphics and visuals. Almost all of time I am on Nurburgring, and the recreation of the track still amazes me.

lol Even GT3 has better looking car models than that.

I seriously thought I was looking at a car from GT2 at first.

I agree with the OP, GT5 at it's best looks stunning. But as others have mentioned that only makes the parts of the game not up to scratch look a million times worse in comparison. It's a real shame that Sony didn't invest more money in PD for the staff to do the modelling and ensure that at LEAST 50% of the cars were premium and EVERY track was up to the standards of the new tracks. Or at the very least cleaned up the standards a LOT more. The appalling quality textures on some cars are just inexcusable....they were BAD in GT4 for gawds sakes!

I agree.
They've sabotaged their best efforts with either laziness or lack of time.

A few of the worst standard cars are appalling and all the premium cars in the world won't change that if you have a car that looks that bad stood next to them.

You have beautiful premium cars which look great, until they're draped in flickery jagged shadows or surrounded by (often silly amounts of) jaggedy smoke/dust/spray, at which point the finest detail means nothing, and you realise you'd much rather have a slightly simpler looking car with slightly simpler effects that don't detract quite so much from the look of the game.

Interiors are the same. They look great till you watch a shadow move across them.

Laguna Seca just looks sad.

Excellent weather changes, the mist is great, the day/night is great. But the raindrops are cartoony, and I guess they ran out of cpu power when it came to making the road actually look wet! (SSR7 excepted for whatever reason)

But, if you have a good car, on a good track, in kind lighting, with the particle cloud either absent, or between you and the car, it can look exceptional. Rare that it looks truly great for long in a replay, though.

+1

I agree, the game looks awesome,

The trees on the Nordschleife look great.

Everything looks amazing in motion...

Sure if you photomode a suzuki it doesn't look so hot, but whatever...

It's nothing to cry about.
Just feed yourself another twinkie and contemplate your life spent sitting in front of a television getting mad about a product you had no hand in producing.

Exactly! Online i almost exclusively play the Nurburgring 24hr, and the Nordschleife. They are the best looking tracks, the most challenging tracks, and the most fun to drive. At moments they are photo realistic.

There is nothing like starting a grid of 16 players under the Nurburging 24hr grand-stand lights at 4am, and racing while the sun rises.

Yeah, you're totally right. Heaven forbid letting people complain at all for something they payed for.

The problem is that now days everyone expects everything, and yet they contribute nothing. What do the complaints accomplish, whats the end game?

The OP thinks the game looks great, that was his statement. Yet all the disgruntled tweens feel it necessary jump out and shoot down his optimism. Why? I don't remember the title of the thread being "I think this game looks great, please come disagree and cry"

Wasn't there a "disgruntled cry & rage" thread started a year ago? Seems most of these comments would be more pertinent there.

Granted, people do complain about ridiculous and insignificant things. But some issues are legit though, and endlessly praising PD won't help them do better on the next game.

I think bringing up the Suzuki was a legitimate complaint. It really does look terrible and reminded me of GT2 car models. What it's doing in GT5 is beyond me, other than saying that the game has 1000 cars which is not a good reason at all.

What has happened in this thread so far really isn't as bad as the people who come into threads made for the sole purpose of complaining and feel the need to talk down to those posting in there by telling them to get lost and stop playing GT5 if they don't like it. Even people with legit issues get shot down. Just look through the thread titled, "Is anyone else disappointed in GT5?" and you will see some examples of what I mean.

And here's two perfect examples of what I'm talking about:

I haven't seen any posts calling the OP a PD fan boy for thinking GT5 looks good, so I don't really see a problem with the posts.

Anyway, my issues with GT5 are not really with the graphics, so maybe it wasn't best to reply in the first place. It just seemed like you were throwing all complainers into the same bunch.

Thoughtful response. I was making a gross generalization.
It's just odd to me when people talk so negatively of the game considering i have such an enjoyable time playing it.

Even with all the things to complain about, I consider GT to be the definitive console racer. I had a rather intense race online yesterday ( my 458 Italia vs heavily modded GTR) on Sarthe. Left me gripping my DFGT like I was going to die and sweating my ass off. Its experiences like that which will always have me on the side of GT. Im open to other franchises but none of them give me that GT feeling.

The thing I found with GT5 (purely regarding how it looks) is that overall it's a bit scruffy and rough around the edges (sometimes even literally...) and there's a lack of consistency (Premium cars appear to be modelled according to different quality norms, tracks range from absolutely beautiful to shockingly low-res, etc.).

There are moments when it does look absolutely stunning though but unfortunately they're often followed by moments when you're reminded of the current gen limits and previous gen assets.

So yes the game looks very, very good during brief moments with the right car on the right track at the right time where it all gels together almost perfectly, on most occasions though it doesn't transcend the realms of being a mere current gen videogame in my opinion
Which ofcourse it is, albeit using old assets and assets which were claimed to be more suited for next gen technology and I reckon it's this combination which causes GT5 to appear scruffy and unpolished most of the time.

The awful, super blocky/jagged edge dynamic shadows and smoke when it touches the car does let down the graphics along with the standard cars. However, in other areas such as the premium cars etc then the graphics look really good.

This is the basis for which GT6 will be built upon, and rest assured, PD is listening. Expect to see results in the next 3 years or so. To me, GT3 seemed much the same.

Amen to that.. I love GT5 and I think it looks great, sure it has it's faults, but really what doesn't?
