Can't get over how good this game looks

The awful, super blocky/jagged edge dynamic shadows and smoke when it touches the car does let down the graphics along with the standard cars. However, in other areas such as the premium cars etc then the graphics look really good.

I agree, and sometimes when a car goes off the track the tires sink into the ground deeper than the rims. Other than that and the issues with jagged smoke, I find the graphics to be quite impressive. I take pics of my premium cars and post them out to people who don't play GT5 and they're all impressed with the deep detail. I give it one thumb up 👍

Amen to that.. I love GT5 and I think it looks great, sure it has it's faults, but really what doesn't?

My hope is all the dirty online racers will get bored rather quickly and move onto something else, and leave the rest of us gentlemen to enjoy the splendor that is GT5 once it matures out of puberty. Nordschleife is really cool, but not when you have to worry about someone slamming into the back of you when you shift down 2nd for a corner.
 
It looks phenomenal. I can't judge graphics in a game just by looking at screenshots. That's not how I play the game. Ok, jaggy shadows are probably a hardware curse, but pass that- at 50 FPS it is an eye candy.

Yes that's another thing, the high fps count. The smooth gameplay is terrific.
 
Funny with so many faults its still the greatest sim racer this gen haha

if other race games had these faults i would return it to the store
 
My mum came over to visit today and even though i had the wheel in hand, the game was running a replay and she had to double take and ask if it was real racing or the game....

I just chuckled and said " The game" then just kept thinking how beautiful and lifelike it is.
 
If there was a better all round game, we'd be playing it and participating in that forum.

This one's pretty damned good.

I agree its most likely a hardware issue. PD probably could've smoothed the shadows out, but at the risk of the framerate dropping. Then we'd have everyone crying about the framerate.
 
I was racing online last night on La Sarthe just as the sun came up. It was amazing. Same on Nurburgring. I just sat on the end of the straight and watched it rise.

Also, hello, i'm new although i've been lurking for over a year.

It's just odd to me when people talk so negatively of the game considering i have such an enjoyable time playing it.

What is odd to me is how so many people post in a GT5 section and complain about it instead of moving on or back to their racer of choice!:ouch:
 
Yeah sure every game has it's faults but if you really like the game like I do you keep playing for the fun of it. Sure some of the standed car look bad but who cares. The whole point of video games is for them to be fun and if it isn't fun go play something else.
 
There are points in this game where it does look absolutely awesome, watching the sun rise on The Ring 24h is one of my favs.

Well it seems to me that the only other true contender against gt5 is forza 3 (for now). As a disclaimer I am not responsible for any console wars and respond at your own risk.

I had that other console up until this feb. At this time I traded it in and bought a ps3. I had forza 3 and had put a ton of hours into it. Now Im only comparing graphics as this thread is about that. In forza 3 the graphics arw constant all across the board which is nice. The tracks look the like the same res across all tracks as well. However while everything in forza looks quite good nothing is really eye popping, even in still photos in their photomode.

In gt5 if you take out any choice of premium car and take a picture of it (even in motion) they look absolutely stunning. Thats 200 cars that look outstanding and well above forzas level.

In the end forza has 500 ish good looking cars while gt5 has 200 outstanding cars and 800 cars which look okay. And in all honesty do those standards look that bad when racing them? In my opinion no they dont.
 
This reminds me... I was racing online with a full room... It was lap 7/7 in road cars and there was about 12 of us on the last straight on nurburh 24h... Haha and i heard one guy say " oh wait te sun is coming up!, u guys go ahead im watching this..." then he pulled a 180 and stopped at the top of the straight just under the bridge... Sure enough, all 12 of us STRANGERS slowed down and all watched the sun rise while the remaing 4 pricks zoomed past us and finished the race... Haha the host later kicked the remaining 4 that did not stop... Its moments like that that make me proud to keep my faith in the GT series... And I later saved the replay and got some wicked pictures of the 12 of us just sitting there... Gotta love GT !

You know guys, I managed to come home from college with my PS3 but without my GT5 disc. One of my roommates is to blame, but I forgive him because I got it back.

So, in the two weeks I spent doing nothing waiting for my internship to kick in, I was playing GT4. I was glad about all of the old features I missed from the old game, but at the same time, the graphics and sound were making me cringe. Even 1080i mode looks like a Genesis game to me now.

I guess my point is that graphics are stunning in GT5 and the sounds aren't all too horrible with a decent stereo. I appreciate it so much more now.
 
The graphics are top notch overall, yes the shadows can look bad at times. Standard cars can't touch the premiums either but which car game can? When I see my driver lean forward from me braking very hard and the Takata belts clutch him like a mother with her new born, that makes me really appreciate what pd did with this game. It has it flaws but what doesn't. Gt5 IMO gives me the best driving experience and this is why I cannot get enough of this game!
