Can't sign into Playstation Store to download free gift. Help!

I got the free Bugatti code from Game Stop but I can't sign into the PS Store to actually get it. When I try to sign in it brings up this error message: "A system software update for the PSP system is required. For update methods, refer to the instructions for the PSP system." I lost my instructions so I don't know where to go. The closest I can find to any software update is under the UMD section and it tells me "The system software of your PSP system is version 5.55. There is no need to update."

From this I assume I have the latest update? If so, why can I not sign in? Is there a seperate update I must get, and if so, where do I go? I'm really frustrated at the moment as I want that Bugatti.

I believe it should be under "System" from the XMB and then System Update.

Going to the Store requires latest PSP update which i think is 6.0 or 6.1 but the update on the UMD is only the latest version required to run the game, which sounds like it is 5.55.
 
It's the most upper left option in the xmb on your psp. 6.1 is required to get to the store and account management (code redeem) stuff.

or just google Sony OFW 6.1 and download it from one of the links. Then run it and head on to the store.
