Can't stay in the drift, someone help

I'm a little new at this drifting thing in GT3 probably because I never gave it the chance.. well now I've been trying and I can't stay in the drift long enough, either I spin out or I countersteer out of the drift to early... so can someone give me some tips?
 
Don't countersteer all the time. If you do, then make sure that the oversteer is constant so that when you countersteer, the car won't spin out. Here's what I think of:

When I understeer, I floor the gas pedal/throttle until the car has a certain angle that I want to drift that corner.

When I oversteer, I countersteer a little bit and then I modulate on the throttle to keep the car oversteering. If it oversteers, countersteer more.

Also, it takes practice. LOTS of practice.

yeah practice man... and check out the drift settings depot... k... should help...

check the settings they help alot
and dont learn to drift with cars with too much power
its all about balance, bettwen throttle and steering

youll be holding and linking corners in no time
 
fo begineer try 4wd its easy to control compare to others . than after u master it than change to fr & others which more challenge...:)
 
Honestly, when I drift, unless my angle was too wide, for the most part I don't really countersteer at all. Given that I've hit the apex at the right speed I pretty much just use throttle control to get me through the turns. The more gas you give it the more the car will slide in any given direction. Just keep in mind that coutersteering is really used as a correction so to speak...

Maybe this is just my drifting style I don't know much but most of the time I only use countersteering is when I enter my turns, or if I've gone too fast mid drift.
 
Lifestream, thats exactly how i drift too. i dont counter-steer much if i have hit the turn at the right angle. i just give it throttle and it pretty much goes how you say it, i only counter-steer to correct.

you mean you don't have to countersteer? Thats why i am taking so long to learn to drift. I always countersteer.

im getting the hang of it... they are a little short but im getting there.... im just trying to keep the nose from going into the grass/dirt
 
No no.. im not saying countersteering isn't needed. I guess what im saying is you need to know when to use it and how much to use. In my case i rarely coutersteer. You countersteer first of all to get ur car where u want it, but more importantly you use it to keep the FRONT of your car going in the direction of where your car will exit the drift. If you don't countersteer, then your rear is just gonna keep sliding... and ur front is just gonna keep turning in the direction of ur drift and then ur either goin backwards or spinning into a guardrail :P It takes a long while to learn how to drift good. Its all about balance....

Once in a while, a turn comes when you just have to slide through the first part and then drift the second half of it. Like in Initial D (bad reference :p) Takumi and the other good drifters don't use much grip in the first half of the corner but they use all the grip they can when they exit so they can have a good exit speed for the next drift. I hope that helps :)
 
It would make it longer and sometimes easier to control through a turn. It depends on what situation you're in. Countersteering makes the drifts longer. Try it, and then you'll know what I'm talking about. Don't countersteer one time and then countersteer the other time. You'll see the difference.
 
Well, I used to be pretty average in drifting. Never could hold it. It was either spin out or minimal sideways action. I then switched over from keypad turn keys to the joystick on the controller. I find that the reason why I always would spin out is that when using the normal keypad, it wouldnt turn into complete opposite lock quick enough, with the joystick, its much quicker.....

Now I'm linking corners etc.......

That and dont use simulation tyres. My favourite drift car is a S14 200SX with almost 400hp with suspension setup correctly (mainly have spring rates 1.5 times harder at the rear...like 6km/cm for front and 11kg/cm at the back and 4 deg neg camber up front) and hard slicks on the front and normal on the back.

just thought this was kinda funny...

BTW... sims are definitely easier to not spin out on... and hence much easier to go fast in... when compared to sims... however sims are the tires to get used to if you wanna do really impressive exhibition drifts.... slicks are the tires to learn drift on... and to learn how to 4 wheel drift on... once you get good at fourwheel drift on slicks move to t8s and your lap times will be much faster...

anyways if you cna drift sims you can drift any tire anyways
 
Umm... I don't know what crack the people on this forum are smoking but if you're using a steering wheel and a rear-wheel drive, I recommend learning WITH countersteer first. If you're using AWD though, then definetely don't use countersteer. Countersteer is very hard without a steering wheel though so if you don't have one, your best bet might be to try without countersteer.
 
no i caught what you were saying lifestream... what i do is when in the drift i countersteer and hold it (not only when it is needed, soon as the car has an angle i try to countersteer till the ending)
