My 787b has been good for me for me but recently i started playing GT5 again and forgot about 1 problem it had when i stopped playing and idk y its doing it still.

but whenever i downshift from 2nd to 1st gear my car's rear end wants to slid out when your at the proper speed to shift down. I doesn't do this to any other of my gear and if i keep my car in 2nd and take the turn without downshifting to first at the same speed it doesn't go sideways.

Any way to fix this with my gearbox or something? Because its anoying me and its totaly random when it does it.

(doesn't do 100% of time when i downshift, completely random and i have watched replay's over and over and there is no pattern to it.)

I know the answer , but first you must know that it is absolutely not random.

You seem new to cars in general , so if I might give you some advice , read a lot , and delve into the world of automotive knowledge. Just ask , very few around here have a problem with helping , that is pretty much what tuning is , after all.

The answer is engine braking. 1st gear being the highest multiplication of RPM's, it's far more severe than any other gear. It's the reason people rev-match downshifts, and particularly with motorcycles. Just letting the clutch in and back out quickly off the throttle makes my bike lose 5mph in 6th gear. In first gear the rear wheel would spin , which is what your car is doing. (Spinning the drive wheels on hard downshifts , which is very common in the racing world)

nah im pretty used to cars, and actually this is the only time it has ever happened to me. EVER.

As much as i watch racing im really suprised ive never seen them do that though, guess i should pay attention more. :)
-DTM
-Super GT
-Le Mans
-Sports car
-Daytona prototype
-Fourmula 1

REALLY SUPPRISED ive never noticed it till now. Considering how much racing i watch. (Hate Nascar)

Anyway ill start engine breaking more so it stops happening. Supprisingly ive only had this problem with this car and no other car. if im supposed to use engine clutch though i cant. DS3 cant program a clutch =( that or ive just never seen it.

Engine braking is the natural act of an engine slowing down. You cannot stop it , increase it , or modify it in any way.
You can tune the car to have more grip to handle the deceleration power applied to the rear wheels, or make 1st gear longer, but the actual engine braking you can't do diddly about.

It's ok to not know about cars , but continually saying "it's the only car ever to do this!" over very common and basic problems?
Like I said, it's ok to not know , but saying you know a lot while making posts that reveal a strong lack of common knowledge about cars is arguing with you loudly , and winning the argument.

I wasn't joking when i said i forgot engine breaking. -.- So no there is sadly no lack of common knowledge, i just forgot something basic.

the 787b is really the ONLY car ive had this problem with ever since i played gran turismo when i was who knows what age. 9 maybe. A lot of cars should have this problem but they don't, ive driven my good share of cars in the gran turismo series and this is a first. Should be more of a common problem though. After all gran turismo isn't quite a simulator. Its trying to be but id say it has a long way to go. :)

But i did give my 787b another try since i forgot about engine breaking and its fine now. so ty XD

I've never experienced this, and have been playing since I was 8 or so. I'm 24 now. 787B any good? Not a huge Le Man fan.

I knew i wasn't the only 1. :) - The 787b isn't actually a Le Man car either, it participated in Le Mans but it was in the Group C category not Lmp1 or 2

But the 787b is my favorite Group C car. Its may not have as much HP as say the Sauber c9 or Minolta but it definitely has a advantage when your in a turn. It controls so much better than the sauber with default tune and when tuned it still can control better. The Minolta is just a fast blue thingy that seems to do everything, but its just not that fun to drive imo. No X factor.

The 787b engine sound is hard to get old of imo and is a must drive.

Id advise trying one at least once. But its my favorite Group c car out there and it looks amazing imo despite it being orange and green.

So it raced in Le Mans, but is not a Le Mans car?

You've been playing for 16 years and never once locked the rear wheels on a downshift and slid the rear? Or you just blamed the brakes "locking up"?

Im referring to how its not actually a Le Mans Prototype car (Lmp) and that its actually a Group C. It did race in the 24 hours of Le Mans yes but it was made to be in the Group C category of the race and not LMP1 or 2. So is it a Le Mans car in the way it was made to race in Le Mans? Yes. Is it technically a LMP car? No :)

i have never locked my rear wheels on a downshift nor do i blame brakes locking. My 787b in GT5 specifically this 1 time is the only time in my who knows how many years of playing gran turismo. I have also never locked my breaks either except for one time.

I did once but i had abs off and was trying to see how long of a skid i could make slamming on breaks. XD

:) derp

Nobody called it an LMP.💡

You're amazing, and I would be honored if you could join me in an online room and show me the light sometime. Clearly I'm the one that needs to be making threads asking for help, not you.

Yeah... when he said le mans fan i just thought of LMP cars. :)

And i cant tell if serious or sarcasm about the online room lol. XD :)

And you actually did help me you know. After all you reminded me that i forgot about engine breaking which did make me remember. Which in the end made me beable to drive me 787b :)

If you guys do jump online I'd like an invite to watch.:cheers:

Welcome to the dark side my friend...

If you know you're going to have the chance, let me know.👍

Of course.👍

lol i would have no clue if i had a chance. I would have to race you to find that out. ;) 👍

If i ever get good internet back were i live though ill be sure to msg you and see if we can have a good race or your leave me to broke. lol Never know until you try i suppose.

Nope, when downshifting i'll bounce off the redline, but my tires never have locked downshifting.

Is your foot on or off the brake/clutch/accelerator when this happens?

If your foot is on the brake/clutch/accelerator and you're applying the correct pressure, this is curious indeed.

If your foot is off the brake/clutch/accelerator? Then its most likely caused by excessive engine braking. Do you redline when this happens?

im good with that lol

sadly got no clutch because im using a DS3. But my foot was off the gas when breaking. But when it happened i wasn't on gas or break and i do not red line when i downshift.

Sometimes it used to happen in a straight line actually. Was the oddest thing ever. O.o

I meant if you have the chance to play online.(maybe at your friends as you mentioned?)

True, no idea why people call it locking, it's spinning. It's a habit that's hard to break, calling it locking.
Anyway, drive an F1 car in GT5, brake hard into a tight corner downshifting hard into first or even second. If you don't have aids(other than abs), it will happen.👍
If you do this and think it didn't happen, that means you missed it.

Ah, yeah if i have a chance to race you at my friends ill let ya know. :)

Totaly forgot to consider my F1. Yeah i guess i have locked up breaks/throttle before then. Ok other than my F1 i never lock my breaks or throttle :) I usually drive higher powered cars with abs and tcs on 1.

If i had a wheel instead of ds3 id try to go no traction control at all but i find trying to be careful on a controller more annoying to do then i actually care to do it. Thats why a lot of my tunes are made for control so that i can have fun without the annoyance throttle control using a little R2 button on a controller.

-If i had online id buy a g27 or something in seconds. I might try to get one for my b day or Christmas. How much do they cost anymore?

i dont think its the gearbox.i think its the brake balance because if the brakes at the rear is higher then the front or the car is unstable braking with stock brakes then make the brakes at the front higher then the rear.

Because it is locking or at least a lot closer to locking than spinning. If the car is doing 100 km/h and you throw in the 1st gear, and the rev limiter speed of the car in 1st gear is 60 km/h, the driving wheels will do 60 km/h while the car is doing 100 km/h. In a RWD car the effect is very similar to pulling the handbrake as the driving wheels get slowed down abruptly.

I agree with Greycap. It's the equivalent of a car rolling at 50MPH, and being in a gear that allows a maximum speed of 40mph.

You can use throttle control with the X button if you wanted. Ask me how I know. :sly: Nowhere near as good as your foot and a pedal but better than mashing it. Really you just have to set your mind to do it and practice it and it will make your driving that much better. If you want to be the best or even just better you need to make the effort. My favorite motivational quote... "It is not can or can't but will or won't."

Last I looked some months back they were still north of 200USD. Might be able to pick one up used cheaper from Ebay or such. Found myself a like new DFGT a couple years ago for 50 bucks shipped. :D
