Another error is the Bently Speed 8. It is classified as an LMP 900 race car from 2003.

LMP 900 is the name of the class for the open top prototype cars, the closed top cars are LM GTP.

I hate GT4 and it's labeling actual cars as PD specials. Fixed.

It's not labeled as a PD special car, it's the same name as the real one.

Too long back for me.

However, I'm sure you're on the right track with the idea that the Kenwood is just a re-make of the original car.
PD probably just wanted to make a NSX LM of the newest NSX design.

Regarding the subject of the thread...
I think this really comes down to the fact that the cars in GT4 are so diverse that time and geographical issues come into play.

That meaning...
Some of the LM cars are going to be different categories due to the times they were produced and raced.
Also, some of the car will be classified differently based on the places they race.
Like the DTM and JGTC cars, those are all touring cars but most are going to be classified based on the National Touring Car Championship they came from.

Also, one other thing that's just come to my mind is the issue of cars that race in more than one race series.

Like the Oreca viper, C5R Corvette, and Audi R8.

All of those cars participated in the Le Mans Enduro Series as well as the American Le Mans racing series.

If I'm not mistaken, those two series, as similar as they are, still have some differences in classification.
For example, I think the LM Enduro Oreca is a GT2 (or something ) but in the ALMS it is considered "GTS."

Now, I could be wrong since I don't know the classifications for the LM enduro series based in europe.

What do you all think?
And what was the Oreca in the 24hours of Le Mans?
Was it classified as something other than "GTS" even though it was the same car?

Oreca doesn't make Vipers only, but I guess you mean the Oreca Viper GTS-R.

It raced several times at Le Mans :

1996, cars #50 and #51 raced in LM GT1
1997, cars #61, #62 and #63 raced in GT2
1998, cars #50, #51 and #53 raced in GT2
1999, cars #50, #51, #52 and #53 raced in LM GTS
2000, cars #51, #52 and #53 raced in LM GTS

The one in the game (#51, 2000) was driven by Olivier Beretta, Karl Wendlinger and Dominique Dupuy. They finished first in LM GTS and 7th overall.

For everything concerning Le Mans, you have to try the official website. I don't know if the english version of the site is worth taking a look, but the french part is really a great source of information.

I believe the 320i is BTCC, but I'm nowheres near sure.

The #42 BMW 320i is driven by Jorg Müller (see Jorg M. on the rear side window) in ETCC - European Touring Car Championship, and he finished 2nd in 2003 (year of the car in the game) with 5 wins.

Perhaps we should make a thread with each race car history. Who was driving it, on which track...

For example, the Audi R8 '01 appears in the game in red (#1) and yellow (#2).
The red car won Le Mans 24 hours that year (driven by Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro and Tom Kristensen), the yellow car finished second (driven by Laurent Aïello, Rinaldo Capello and Christian Pescatori).
Some people probably also remember that the italian former F1 driver Michele Alboreto was killed in car #2 during practice.

I had done some research a few weeks ago about the cars in GT4 which raced the Le Mans 24 hours. I should post all this some day...

Ok, a final story and then I go to bed.

The Ford GT40 Race Car '69 won Le Mans in 1969, driven by the belgian Jacky Ickx. At that time, cars were parked on one side of the track and drivers were lined up on the other side.
At the flag signal, all drivers were running to their car, and to save a few extra seconds, many of them didn't fasten their seat belt !
To protest against this kind of start, Jacky Ickx didn't run across the track to his car but walked instead. Therefore he started last, but eventually won the race (120 m only ahead of the second car !)
Since the next year, all drivers are already fasten on their seats when the starter waves the flag.

Tsuchiya drove the turbo NSX Le Mans car in Best Motoring (can't remember which volume), but he took it out for a few laps around Motegi. Impressive viewing and it is indeed a real car.

However, I knew it had competed in real life.
My actual question was with regard to the classification it fell under.

I remember that the ALMS had it classified as a "GTS" car.
So I'm wondering if the Le Mans Enduro Series classified it under the same category or if they have their own categories that are different from the ALMS categories.

Would you happen to know that one Flat-Out?

The one about the seat belts... I knew they started like that but I had no clue the driver pulled a protest and won the same year!

LeMans used to run the GTS class but in both LeMans and correct me if I'm wrong, ALMS they now use GT1, GT2, LMP1, LMP2 ect the same as LeMans now does, but the actual cars in the current GT1 are the exact same spec as GTS and so on for other classes it's just all been re-named as far as I'm aware.

I think thats right.
ALMS and LMES (the European equivilant) use the same rules as Le Mans, as teams who enter either of those series get priority into entering the actual 24 hour race.

Also, theres a new GT3 class as well.
Though I have no idea what cars are in that......

I'm starting to think that the Pajero Evolution in the game is just based on the real life Rally Raid car. For one, it's labled as a PD special. Two, it has changable wheels. And 3, you can perform weight reduction (the only rally car you can do it on).

Sorry. It doesn't actually say "PD Special". The little wavy flag thing underneath the name of the car in the garage view tells you whether it is a PD Special or not.

About the Pajero:

The number is the same as on Masuoka's Pajero. (200)

Obviously the GT version is not exact(wheels), but it seems to be about the same.

-Seems to have the same flag decals on the side of the car.
-In place of the dakar rally sign on the front left of the car, there's a sign from GT(one of the rallies)

I would conclude that the GT version is a replica of Masuoka's car, the fact that you can reduce weight and change wheels are probably either:
A: mistakes.
or
B: Allowing you to reduce weight is probably "removing" the spare tires in the back, extra fuel, etc. because rallies in GT are so short compared to the Dakar rally.

I never payed attention to that intill now thanks for pointing it out, but the Pajero doesnt have that PD flag in my game.
