Vat-This is the Eunos logo:

And then read this, off of the site I got the pics from:
Mazda spent a lot of time and money on realizing a dream of having their own line of luxury cars, so they conceived the Amati division, lots of money were spent on research, prototypes, equipment, personnel and even a factory with an almost functioning production line ...... all in time for economic problems that caused Mazda ( influenced by Ford's cost cutting ) to cut it off. and...
ARRIVEDERCHI AMATI

Citing continuing problems with the world economic situation, the unfavorable yen/dollar relationship, and declining fortunes of luxury brands both here and abroad, Mazda announced in late October that it was dropping its ambitious program to establish a second channel in America under the Amati banner. The master plan, announced in October 1991, called for the new division to launch a pair of luxury sedans in the spring of 1994 as 1995 models.

Initial Annual sales volume for this country was projected at 20,0000 units. A Mazda source has confirmed the company is continuing the development on a smaller, V-6 front-wheel drive car. While Japan and Europe are expected to be its primary market, there's some speculation a version may be offered here one day -- with a Ford badge. The larger, rear-drive V12 flagship, reportedly is a dead player.

At the time of cancellation, Amati had signed preliminary contracts with 67% prospective U.S. dealers. Although the Amati channel is history, Mazda officials admit to studying the possibility of introducing a future model that would extend the auto maker's market reach beyond the existing 929.

NOTE: The biger Amati car was going to sports a V12 and possibly called the Pegasus

Hmmm Amati, and the possible logo:

Woulda been cool... :(

Thanks for the site Jordan!

800 is the Millenia around here...while its a good car, working on it is a pain, takes like 3hrs to change the sparkplugs cause they are hidden underneath a lot of stuff.

That Mitsubishi/Mazda logo struck me too. Were they under the same umbrella at some point? Anyway, I found this on Mitsu's Website:

The name "Mitsubishi" refers to the three-diamond emblem. "Mitsubishi" is a combination of the words mitsu and hishi. Mitsu means three. Hishi means water chestnut, and Japanese have used the word for a long time to denote a rhombus or diamond shape. Japanese often bend the "h" sound to a "b" sound when it occurs in the middle of a word. So they pronounce the combination of mitsu and hishi as mitsubishi.

Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of the old Mitsubishi organization, chose the three-diamond mark as the emblem for his company. The mark is suggestive of the three-leaf crest of the Tosa Clan, Yataro's first employer, and also of the three stacked rhombuses of the Iwasaki family crest.

I'm trying to find a Mazda history, but the Mazda.com site's not working for me, and there's not much on the US site.

Look at the date on the Logo I posted, 1931, I don't think Mitsubishi was even a thought then, and Mazda only used it for 3 years. And if you want a Mazda history, go to www.mazda.co.jp and go the right side(after the big logo with English and Japanese, don't click anything, just wait)you will see "WEB" and then japanese letters, click that. You should see a list, roll over each one and read what it goes to at the bottom of your browser. You should be able to navagate that way, works for me and I've found a lot of cool things on the site. I'll go there now and post my findings.

well, I looked through the web museum, mazda history, and some other stuff and found nothing talking about it...but they did have some pics of 3 wheel motorcycles with the second logo...I'll keep looking.

Mazkid: Mitsubishi's been around as a company for a while time. Again, from the site:

Origin and development
The first Mitsubishi company was a shipping firm that Yataro Iwasaki established in 1870. That company soon diversified into coal mining, shipbuilding, banking, insurance, warehousing, and trade.

Maybe Mazda was part of Mitsubishi at some point? That's an odd thought. I guess it's also possible that, if the word and symbol are somewhat common in Japan, that they came up with it independently, found out someone else had it and dropped it?

Sorry mate, but your knowledge of Mazda is better than that of Mitsubishi. I got this after a brief look round the net.

I've got a real thing for Audi, their cars and their logo. The four rings are just SO cool, and there's little better than the grille of an RS4.

ahh, well then...umm....sorry....but Mitsu has only been shipping cars to the US for a short time...I don't think Mazda and Mitsu were together at some point, I've never seen/heard of that at all. Unless the guy that made that logo thingy was on crack...I have never seen that logo untill I saw that pic.

I'm pretty sure they didn't have crack in the 30s, at least. How's that for getting way off the subject?

I even looked up some of the corporate evaluations/analyses on Mazda, but didn't see much of a history. I did find an analysis of its financials, though, which wasn't all that good, unfortunately.

It does seem odd for me to be looking up Mitsu history; I've never been a big fan of the company. But the history and logos are rather interesting, I think.

Mitsubishi has been around a long time in Japan, I believe they were a well established mining company before venturing into the automotive market.

Yep, I was corrrect. Take a look at this very detailed page about Mitsubishi's history, which apparantly started all the way back in 1870, with their first car in 1917, but the official Mitsubishi Motors division didn't come around until 1970.

Wow thats cool man. Car history is cool. ;) :D

I was saying that the guy(owner of the site where I got that image with the logos) might have been delerius, I haven't seen that logo anywhere, like it doesn't exist, and how could they make a logo to put on a car out of it? The A is floating, and I think it would look terrible as a logo, they would have to put a backing on it or something...I'll keep looking for a pic of a 3 wheel truck or motorcycle from that time period, it should have that logo...

The thing I could never work out with the 800 - why the hell was it front-drive?

I donno...it has a lot of grip, I guess a lot more weight over the front. The 929 (and MPV, same base) were RWD, but the car had more weight over the back. Mazda really needs a good rwd sedan, I guess that's the RX-8 lol, but the 6 is fwd. The Millenia will be going bye bye I think, it doesn't sell that well and it has a couple of problems. Just another car really...
