The car and engine rebuild in GT Auto is a great idea, but I think it would be very helpful to show a percentage of how worn an engine is and how rigid the body is. In addition to performing a restoration, it would show what the improvements will be in terms of power and such as in the parts shop. I think it would be an easy system to implement and be very beneficial and fun to have.

To take it a step further in a future GT game, I think it would be great to factor in changing the brake fluid and steering fluid for these fluids are critical when running a car at max performance.

Another question of concern is the price to charge for these services. Set the price too low and its repetitive and boring, but set the price too high and it becomes difficult to enjoy the game. I think a good range for pricing would be for each percent out of 100% that needs to be repaired, it would charge $1,000. Thus meaning a 100% worn out engine or body structure would cost $100,000 not the current $500,000 that is way too much.

By adding these features it would make the game more realistic and competitive. I think it would add a great new aspect to the game. What do you guys think?

It sounds good but the idea of $1000 for 1% won't make much sense for some cheaper cars, for example, a $20000 car wouldn't cost $100000 to have it's engine rebuilt.

I really think it's fine the way it is. If you really want this though, you should go in the feedback forums.

I think you have some good ideas. It would be a big help to have an indication of how worn your engine and chassis are, and how much it will improve with a restoration.
I voted for your system.

Yes, it makes sense that it would seem expensive for $100,000 to rebuild a Honda Civic, but take into account that it is a game and a game needs a characteristic to it to keep it fair and challenging. Perhaps there needs to be a tier system that would charge more or less depending on the type of car (production model or race model). But I think they could at least add a percentage to know how worn out the car is because it seems so vague to me.

They should ditch it already. It sucks having your cars win-lose power everytime and paying more than the original cost of the car for manteinance (It's not I ran my engine with silica for oil and bent my chassis without repair).

Come on, it's just a game it's supposed to be all the thrill of a track day without all the costs and annoyances. Want "realism"? Then pay for each set of tires you wear out, pay for new breakpads, pay car insurance, pay transportation costs to the tracks, pay for every liter of race fuel, pay for every dent/rash/fallen bumper in your car, pay your garage's rent, and finally wire plastic explosives to your PS3 so you get killed when you crash.

Seriously, I think realism should have a limit. Want absolute realism? Go out and do the real thing.

I agree... but the game is not the ultime track-day simulator, but the DRIVING SIMULATOR. So, it should include all those things too, but not remove any! :\

All kinds of driving involve costs.

Call it however you want, but until it doesn't come out of the tracks and it shows me a competitor, a trophy, or a cronometer, it will be a racing driving simulator, a sporty driving simulator if you wish. Deal with it. This game was payed by the people who want to thrash the latest sports cars around a track with a driving feel similar to real life but without the consequences, not by the 0.001% of the players who want to cruise at 60Km/H in a K-Car or a commuter crapbox arouns Tsukuba just to rebuild the car 2 hours later.

No, that's what the NFS: Shift series is about - GT5 is, like others said, a driving simulator. GT5's mission to is to capture the essence of motorsport - which includes the upkeep of your vehicles.
