Every once and a while my fiancee and I will go "Car hunting" to kill time. It started one day when I needed to show her a 599. We found one, and a Dino, two Californias, a 456 and a few other Ferraris. It turns out there was a large Ferrari meet going on in town, and living in South Florida helps lol. Anyway, so we now need a ranking system. Points would be confusing and debatable. Im thinking since its a hunt, why not liken them to animals? Kinda weird and nerdy, but you get a sense of accomplishment like, sweet. I went looking for one, and I found it. Good find. So far it seems Bentleys are most like deer. A lot of them, but still worth hunting. As a point of referrence we got 12 the other night, and not at the dealership. Rolls-Royces are more rare and a little cooler. Moose? Then getting into the exotics - Ferraris, Porsches, Aston Martins etc etc.

I figured this was difference from the "Did you see anything good today" thread because we go out on purpose to find these cars, not just I saw one on the way to work. Thoughts?

We did a scavenger hunt type of thing two years ago, it worked well till we ran out of categories and Doug ended up winning everything.

Easy for you to say Mr Palm Beachian ;)

Uhhhm, not sure what I think of the idea. I like it, but I've got a feeling it could get painfully complex trying to work out points based on each individual car.

Taking Aston Martin as an example, you can't just give a standard number of points for all of the models they've ever made. DB9s for example are a hell of a lot more common than DB7 Zagatos. Issue is even worse with spotting a Ford - is a GT worth the same as a Ka or an F150?

If there's a way of getting past that, then I'm in. I'll lose, but I'm in.

I thought you were looking to purchase one of those cars. I was going to ask if you could share the wealth.

Yes, but Doug's dead*, baby.

*I'm sure he's actually alive, but he abandoned his account after a discussion about diesel and now resides entirely on F-Chat

Doug is alive and kicking, runs his own website now dedicated to car spotting.

He's dead to me. DEAD! YOU HEAR ME?! DEEEEEEEEEEEEAD!

Anyway, I support this idea. In fact, I support a revival of the GTP Scavenger Hunt, and I support some other sod running it.

I too support it a reinstatement of it, using a similar set of rules and parameters as before since that seemed to work out nicely.

It doesnt have to be a competition, just a way to pass time and judge my (or yours)sense of accomplishment. No, Makes would be a type of animal, models would be certain species. For example, a Continental Super Sports would be a 12pt buck, a Flying Spur a doe. Neat to see, but nothing special. (Again, relatively speaking.) Maybe we should skip the animal system, and create a points system.
