the new "Car Search" feature function, we can now use it as a "census" for the car list in GT6. After using about half an hour of using this feature. I've created this list:

Ask you can clearly see, the car list is quite bloated and one sided.

I wonder why people often get so mad at Skylines and Miatas... but... It's hard to see people mad at NSX... look at it... 34, just like the MX5.

(note that I don't care about having other versions/duplicates if they are real with proper specs, I've liked this since the first GT)

The thing with the NSXs, and this may be true of the other "duplicates", is that the available colours are different depending on the year. I've no idea how accurate that selection is (or even the individual colours themselves), but it's quite nice to be able to choose the appearance of the car to that degree.

Obviously, it should probably better be condensed under a single "heading", with variants as options, and then the same thing applied to other cars. And paints perhaps not limited to "chips" like they are, too.
 
This is my lift of premium cars in GT6. I do not count the cars that are either just other liveries, GT Tunes (chrome lines, stealth models, AEs). Those cars are indented below the main model.

I indented also a couple of cars that are marked blue. Those are actually different model years but so close to the main model that I count them as the same car. This of course is highly debatable.

I additionally marked some cars red that are just race tuned versions of main models. If we would have full race modifications in GT6 there would be no need for those as we could create our own.

Also marked are pure concept cars in green. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of these fantasy cars.

From that, as I see it (this is debatable of course), I would subtract the following:

Gran Turismo cars: 16
Touring Cars that could be modded: 15
Pure concepts: 6

That leaves us with

Premiums: 302

Another thing that is probably very questionable are tuner cars. I am sure there are some fans of them but as I see it there are a lot of people that would prefer to make their own unique tuner cars if we had the option to fiddle around with engine / drive train swaps and other modifications.

The thing with the NSXs, and this may be true of the other "duplicates", is that the available colours are different depending on the year. I've no idea how accurate that selection is (or even the individual colours themselves), but it's quite nice to be able to choose the appearance of the car to that degree.

Obviously, it should probably better be condensed under a single "heading", with variants as options, and then the same thing applied to other cars. And paints perhaps not limited to "chips" like they are, too.

This would be awesome, if you could simply choose the model, not having the duplicates.

Some people did this not long after the game came out, I don't remember the number but it would make your wallet cry.


Great list and charts. I didn't realise the duplicates fluffed the numbers up quite that much, jeez. While a lot of them are justifiable due to different specs/years, the many identical MX5s and so on aren't really, though I suppose it's nice to have the choice if you own one particular vaiant in real life. Many are not needed though, should be listed as one car where you can then select the spec/name.
 
wonder how GT6 compares to earlier games?
TVR & Aston Martin Lagonda, Corvette & Dodge, and the Usual suspects of Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Fuji Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi - And no electric hybrids back in the first GT.

Maybe the improvement in New cars will overshadow the obvious "50 shades of grey market Skyline" some people complain about.

And who doesn't like a Pie Chart - Maybe a Polar area themed one (6 Sectors, 1 for each game), Florence Nightingale style.

Why should GT have the same percentage as forza? For a start, I'd rather have more japanese cars than americans - america has a long history of building "straighline cars" that have rubbish handling and are not good for the corners.

You've got a very narrow view of the automotive spectrum.

Anyway, Kaz seems to like American cars too - pretty much the only cars which win the GT Awards at SEMA each year are pro-touring cars.

Also since when were you the ultimate authority on new cars for GT?

Didn't you know, he's the authority on everything. If he likes something in GT6, it's good. If you don't like something, it's your problem, not the game. Duh.
