Car prices in Excel

Lists car, year, premium or standard, new or used price and how some are earned/won. Much of this final data is based on others' submissions so there may be a few errors. Cars earned for completing a series, presented as gift cards for a particular level, appear to be random so mine will most likely be different from yours. Also note that used car prices vary minimally as the same car appears multiple times, usually within $10 or $20.

I've added a prefix to the prize data to better organize the results when sorting by that criteria.

I've edited the vehicle names as I find the used car names differ from those provided by Sony.

http:\\www.bates.edu\~gdudley\GT5CarList.xlsx If the link fails, type in the address exactly as it appears. Once you connect to the file successfully, bookmark it so you can easily download future updates. Further help with downloading file - if using Internet Explorer, try right clicking the link and save target as to the desktop, then right click file on desktop and open with Excel. Ignore the warning message, if you get one, say yes, and the file should open. Hope that helps.

This is the last update (2/14/11) I'll be posting. Just a few cars left and, quite frankly, I've lost interest in the project. As my father used to say, "Close enough for government work". :-)

The above hyperlink isn't presented correctly. Highlight the whole thing and paste it into your browser and you should be able to get the file.

I'm learning about editing post. :-) I just corrected the above link so it should work fine now.

Good idea this!

Only gripe is the use of $ ;-)

Sorry about that. I use US dollars vs credits to help immerse myself in the experience. Just reformat the cells in that column and you can make it Euros or anything else Excel supports. :-)

Just uploaded the most current file. This includes the prefix that better sorts prize data.

http:\\www.bates.edu\~gdudley\GT5CarList.xlsx (you may need to copy and paste the url).

I completed my first new level since starting the spreadsheet last night so I noted the car I got with the A-Spec Professional Level 12 gift card but I assume this will vary with each player.

Anyone is welcome to submit prices I don't already have and I'll include them in my next upload.

Thanks for the info. I'm relatively new to the world of forum.

Spiker, I edited the link in the original post so it should work fine now. Give it a try.

I give up. It's taking me to a Windows folder with some .xml file that puts a bunch of code text into my browser. The file sounds pretty nice, though.

Spiker, are you using Internet Explorer? The problem is how Internet Explorer sees the .xlsx file, it is saying it is a zip file when in fact it is a Excel file.

I have to use Explorer at work so had the same issue, tried this comment out from the below thread and it worked for me:

I’ve also found that if, after downloading, I right-click the .zip file and choose open with and select the appropriate program (ie, Word, Excel, PPT) it will open correctly without renaming it.

--So, save the file, don't automatically open and then chose Open With and point it to Excel or whatever Spreadsheet program you use and it should work fine.

I am using explorer and this worked great. File looks nice but there's some prices missing on the used cars! Just kidding - I know this is quite a project you have undertaken. Kudos if you ever are able to complete it.

As a suggestion, I'd like to see HP and Weight, too. Then you'd be able to calculate Price per Power:Weight to find out which cars are giving you the most bang for your buck.

I chose not to include HP and weight because as soon as people tune, those numbers change. Plus it's a lot more work. :-)

I was also tempted to include mileage on used cars but how anal do I want to be? It will be years before GT6 so maybe I'll get around to it in the future. :-)

I have plotted the sell price of all my cars against you data. The sell price of a new (saleable) car is consistently and exactly 30% of the new car price. However, the sell price, as a percentage of the Used Car price varies between 30 - 35%.
It is interesting that you do no have a record of a car with a new price and a used price! Even when I add my cars, there is no overlap. My guess is that there is no overlap - so used cars cannot be purchased new, and vice versa.
For example, I have a Nissan SKYLINE GT-R (R32) ‘91 with a sell value of 13,530 cr. If you could purchase this car new, it will cost 45,100 cr. If it cannot be purchased new, it can only be purchased used, at a price between 13,530 – 15785 cr (roughly).
This effect may be due to incomplete data, but it seems strange that there are no cars yet that you can purchase new and used.
What do you think?

39 cars were listed as both premium and standard in Sony's car list (I chose to show them simply as premium) which might suggest that those cars can be purchased either way. Data collection will take some time so I'm not sure when we'll know for sure. If that proves the case I will amend the data to reflect the premium/standard option.

Have adapted your excellent spreadsheet, and added all the sell prices I have. If interested, I could post a copy.

Nice work.

Here are some more for you from my used car lot.

Gillet Vertigo Race Car '04 1,943,180

Toyota GT-ONE Race Car '99 2,927,445 599hp

McLaren F1 GTR Race Car '97 3,575,880

At this point I've collected 396 used car prices. That leaves 434 so any help I can get in filling in the blanks would be much appreciated. Please post your copy and I'll merge information from your list into mine, if that's ok.

The only match for that particular McLaren was BMW. I'll assume that's correct and have added the used car price. The other two I got last night and are in the latest version.

Thanks for the help. :-)

Lancia STRATOS ‘73 - 295,204
Honda S2000 LM Race Car - 123,089
