So today I finally figured out what the car sharing icon does. Basically, it allows your friends to see up to 6 cars that you own under your profile. It is a cool feature, but unfortunately, while your cars are in share status, you can't actually use them.

So essentially, its a great feature made useless because now there is no point to it. The only cars I share are cars that I never use. I can't share my Enzo, my Zonda, or any of my other cars because I use them all online/offline. I mean I can share them while not using them, but then its a pain in arse having to unshare it everytime I want to use it and then reshare it when I'm done using it. Please change this PD.

Yep, thats all it does. I thought it would work like you'd expect it to work, like being able to let your friend share/drive that car.

As far as can be determined, this is the point (but it's on that ever-increasing list of things PD's planning on getting around to implementing, apparently). In that case, it makes sense we can't use a car while it's shared; if friends were able to use our cars that are shared online, they'd be "leasing" them, adding some mileage or test driving, then perhaps the network would update mileage after they've used it?

Or, the other reason we can't use them when they're shared is because it'd be a pain for the game to have to update the info on the car every time you fiddled with it in your own game. Sharing them freezes any changes from happening, saving on bandwidth for Sony.

It's a neat feature, but as is, is essentially useless; it's the equivalent of window shopping.

I guess it's a bragging window, I assume. I used it to showcase my favorite and prettiest cars that were custom, or gorgeous stock. Like my Camaro, which I haven't driven once, but is beautiful as hell. :)

Actually I think it is there as part of the as yet unimplemented online b-spec mode. I don't have any links but there were some interviews with Kaz or someone at PD saying that your friends would be able to race your b-spec drivers and shared cars.

I don't care for it myself though

Which makes the 100 car limit on 'favourites' even more silly. 1000 cars in the game and I can only take 100 online to choose from at a time 👎

The very useful thing about shared cars would be if you gathered some friends and everyone could have the same car from your shared list, so all the cars in the race would have the same charatceristics. I noticed the ones from favourite lists change in their hp specs the more you drive them, and those from the recommended list tend to not be the ones we like to race. I'd like to have some silly races with friends driving WV Samba buses, old Fiat 500s, old Citroen 2 CVs, or perhaps, 330 P4s, but with the same conditions for everyone...

I've been thinking what could be done about car sharing. The other day, I raced some friends and we noticed our favourite cars, although the same makes, untuned from the shop, same tyres and oil changes by default for all, vary in their characteristics, depending of how much they've been driven online, and we'd like to race some that aren't on the recommended list...
It would be nice if I could use my shared car list to set the rules, and everyone in the race gets exactly the same car (except, maybe, with the option of choosing the colour), so we could race WV Bus races, or Fiat 500s, Citroen 2CVs, 330 P4 or any car we like, but under the same conditions for all involved...
