dunno why
i dont look into tuning stock cars any more. i just go ahead and buy a car that is faster in its stock form

in GT4, most of the cars are really fun to drive in their stock form. like the Mine's R34, the mines setting is already really fast, adding the stage 4 turbo making it 800HP doesnt help much. due to the huge turbo lag the stage 4 gives, the Mine's original setting was much better.

some cars like BMW M5, SLR, you dont even want to touch their setting, cuz its already very fast and fun to drive.

so i guess no able to use tuned cars in Arcade mode isnt that much of an lost, because stock cars are still very fun to drive.

also, tuning ur car is quite useless.... your opponents usually just drive a stock car. and the AI suck so bad that they can still be 30 seconds behind u even if they drive the same car as u

edit: the only great thing about tuning car is the racing exhaust!
my Ford GT finally sound like what it suppose to sound like... the V8 rumble sounds great with the racing pipe

I've never gotten that much "fun" out of tuning the cars anyway. But I do agree with you on simply buying a faster car.. I've noticed that lately, in GT3, I much prefer driving stock vehicles to highly-tuned ones.

^^ I have to agree. I prefer to drive/drift lower powered cars lately as well. I bought an Alto Works and ran it almost stock (stage 2 turbo, chip, etc) without suspension changes and it was incredibly fun to race against the faster (but not smarter) k cars.

I dunno what's up with you hyde, I've looked at alot of your posts and they are all negative are you like a Forza Fanboy in disguise? :scared:

You make GT4 sound like it sucks.

Don't worry the AI won't literally be that slow... I don't care what he says, I know PD is better than making AI so bad they are 30 seconds slower.

And maybe you guys aren't doing the tuning properly because if your REALLY know what you are doing or you follow some sort of a guide, the ending result can always be better than stock from and very rewarding.

Annd.. So is everybody sure that PD didn't include tuned cars for 2 player battle?

Mmmm, although I haven't played GT4 yet, one thing that I found in GT3 is that all the cars, when they were highly tuned, pretty much sounded the same. The engine/turbo whine kinda overwhelmed the rest of the sounds. That's one reason why I'll like being able to drive the stock cars in Arcade Mode...

I think you misunderstood him, cause he didn't really say negative things about GT4. He confirmed that there's a turbo lag (yay) and only said that it's more fun for him to leave already quick cars stock. I have developed this attitude during GT3. One day I discovered that maximum power isn't always good, and that you can have more fun with a stock or medium powered car.

Cheers,

i dunno
with a stock M5 racing in the BMW M-series race, i was able to lead the 2nd place car by a margin of 30 seconds or more... and could even see the tail light of the last cars (M coupe, E46 M3) by the final lap on that Opera track

Hate to stray off-topic, but I have an interesting discovery. One night I was tuning my Accord Euro-R and I was trying to find a good sound for it. I initially thought the whining was from the turbo or something, but found out it's actually the racing transmission that caused the whining. When I changed it back to the stock transmission I noticed the whining was gone even with the turbos.

The turbo whine isn't that dominant, but you still can hear it.

The M5 has 507 hp while the E46 has 333-343hp (depending on where the car is made). I think that pretty much explains it. Was there another M5 in that M-series race?

well, mines skyline is allready tuned, tunining it more is always posible, but since the car is allready very close to it's limit the benefits could very well be moot.

transmision sound is the one thing PD didn't change for GT4... wich completley sucks, because they got just about evrything else right! download any video of a race car in cockpit (not formula cars, but tuned factory ones.) and you'll hear the difference right away. GTR and Rfactor both have those sounds right... and they make a huge difference.

That's what I'm thinking right now.....
Anyway, all that matters to me is better physics....many new tracks and cars and that's all I need for playing GT4 for a couple of years...and better graphics ofcourse. All other stuffs in the game are not that important to me! 👍

the car behind me was another E60 M5, he was struggling with the M3 GTR in all race

and i was still 30 seconds or more ahead of him.

Then you must be VERY good at this game. But if it is mostly the AI then...

That's something not to look forward to... :banghead:

To tell you all the truth. I dont play gt4 to race. I play gt4 to drive. to me, gt4 is the test driver's game. I get more enjoyment driving on a track than racing against 5 other cars.

Well, each car is there for its own purpose, people drive a Pescarlo to drive very quickly with ease but people dont buy a Honda Civic to tune to 600 HP and race an LM car and expect perfect handling. It's so much more fun to enter a competition knowing that you're going to receive copetition with an unmodified car.

Quite true.

I think the draw of stock vehicles is not only the sound (which, as mentioned, is unfettered by mufflers, turbo, or racing transmissions), but just the fact that it's stock. There's more enjoyment out of ripping around the track in, say, an M3 CSL, as it is. It's like a joyride in the Ring Taxi. By throwing everything but the kitchen sink onto that car, sure it might be faster, with a thousand horsepower and a top speed of 250mph. But at that point, it's not really an M3 anymore, is it? It's become something else. And it loses some of it's "magic". There are plenty of cars out there that are perfectly drivable in their stock forms. Hell, I've gone digging through my garage, and bought brand-new cars just so I could drive it perfectly stock, since the one in my garage had un-removable upgrades on it (like Port Polishing, Displacement, etc). I'll probably only upgrade a few of my cars in GT4. Like the Lotus.. Most of you probably know the one I mean.. hehe.. the 1000hp+ monster that can hit 270 on the Test Course. That's going to be my LeMans Cruiser.. hehe. But right now, I can't really think of any other car that I want to beef up. My M3 will remain stock, for zipping around the 'Ring. Ruf Yellowbird will most likely remain stock (or will only be upgraded to match Stefan Rosier's as closely as possible, depending on how the stock version compares). ZZII will certainly remain stock.. that one doesn't need anything. SLR, Ford GT.. these can whoop just about anything short of a Ferrari Enzo in real life, they're just fine the way they are.

I think CobraGT said it right. It's not about speed. It's not even about laptimes. It's not the destination that matters, it's the journey. It's the driving.

Tuning cars has never been a big point of the game to me. What I mean is I like cars that are fun to drive when stock. I will rarely deal with a car that isn't fun to drive bone stock unless I have to. Tuning them is a nice option, not really needed in the game vs. the AI (since the AI is easy to beat) but when hotlapping in OLR tuning comes into it's own. Knowing how to get the best out of the car is key to fast laps.

I've never found tuning "fun". It is just techy tinkering to make my car handle better for a specific circuit or condition. In GT3 I had only a handful of cars i even dealt with after 3 years of playing. Each one of them I knew inside and out and had many saved setting profiles for baselines that I would use, I only adjusted them if a condition needed it.

Adding parts and HP to a car doesn't always make it better.

I hope GT4 gives me more tuning options, I expect it to be a PITA to re-create my settings profiles for the cars I will spend the most time in but it will happen.

the Amuse S2000 R1 is just awesome, using this car in NA Tune race series would give around 150-160 A-Spec points, this is quite a bit of points, cuz i've race in some race with exact same car only giving me 60 points. such as driving stock 120i in 1-series Cup only gave me 80 points.

but even with the low amount of power and a displacement of 2L, i was still able to beat those Corvette, DB7, Mustang Cobra R by more then half a minute on trial mountain!!!

HYDE have you opened extreme hall yet, perhaps more difficult events with quicker AI will be present there, crosses fingers! or have you raced any super license events?
Also how hard is the Arcade mode when you crank up the AI to fast?
Do you still need to make the weight/power handicaps to give yourself a challenge.

Also since purchasing My DFP andPrologue, I really wasnt bothered you couldnt tune the cars, It was so much more challenging trying to extract faster and faster times out of those stock cars, with there sloppy suspensions and shabby brakes.
GT prologue has thus far given me 3 times more happy gameplay than GT3 ever managed, and im still enjoying mastering and pushing the limits in prologue.
Cant imagine how many hours are going to go in to GT4, doesnt bare thinking about :scared:

for me I'll buy two of my favrorite cars so I can have one stock and one modified ,like an M3 CSL modifiedand a stock one so I could tell the diffrence ,I don't have GT4 but I will play the M -Series with the M3 CSL in stock form so it would be harder to beat the M3-GTR and the M5 but if I do beat them it would fun and I would get more A -spec points right beacuse I've beaten more powerfull cars than the one I won the race with ;)

I agree. In GT1 & 2, I enjoyed the racing a lot. Since GT3, only races I enjoy anymore are against another person. With the GT3, I've just enjoyed driving, record lap times, testing cornering limits, replays, etc.

I mainly like to do suspension tuning over power mods. For instance, I'll tune the suspension, the gearbox and diffs(if applicable) and then maybe do a sports muffler, chip, and balance. It really all depends. Guess I'll have to wait for GT4 to come out here in the US.

tuning a car isnt always about power
its also the handling and the braking
I always try to tune the suspensions first then buy my self new set of brakes and then move onto lvl 1 weight reduction

of you got that right...you might not even need to increase power

so you need to be good at adjusting suspension levels and also understand weight tranfer

I always enjoyed tuning a car cause there are somany ways to balance your car and handle just right:)
