Probably a dumb question......but what is the purpose of the car wash in GT Auto? I've never washed a car because I always thought it was a waste of money......but apparently a lot of people do it? Am I missing something? Is there a performance edge to washing the car?

I'm sure you got a couple of extra mph in gt4, dont know in gt5 though. But, it definitely makes it shiny.

24 hours grinding Le Mans and the car is filthy, when you pay half a million credits for a car then it seems a bit mean to deny it 50 credits to give it a wash while you change the oil before sending it out for another 24 hours.

You get to see 4 men with sponges practicing to be the next Karate Kid .. If you dig that scene pay the 50 credits. One of them is faster than the X2010 as he can clean the middle of the car without you noticing him doing it. I vote him to be my next Bob.

I have noticed it does absolutely nothing. My cars look the exact same after the car wash as they did before the car wash. No difference. It does not make your car faster and it does not make it lighter or more aerodynamic despite what others would have you believe. Half the time those dudes washing your car are rubbing their sponges in mid air not even touching the car. Waste of 50 credits.

Take your car to an endurance race and you will notice your car does get dirty.

From the Gran Turismo official site:

"Have your car washed by hand using special soap with waterproof coating effects."

So maybe aside from a slight reduction in friction, it helps with visibility in rain? Only thing I can think of by "waterproof coating."

Even tho it gets dirty in enduros (CLK GTR and s Vettel were totally blackened after enduros) it is clean for the next race and in the show room.

I swear in old GT games the grime stayed on between races, but it was more of just the car looking more matte almost. In GT5, it doesn't seem to matter. I do it anyways, because 50 credits don't seem to matter [to me] either.

The main purpose of the car wash is to ensure that years from now, people will still be creating new threads asking what it's for.

Locked. Sorry. This one was hardly the first.
