This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

As part of today’s major announcements coming out of Polyphony Digital, including Gran Turismo 7: Spec III, recognition of another significant milestone has been achieved: over 100 million copies of Gran Turismo series games have been sold worldwide...

I can recall having had 10 Gran Turismo titles.

Had GT1 on Late-Holidays 1997,
Had GT2's 1.00 version in late 1999,
Had GT3 close to late-2001,
Had GT4 on one of it's Quebec launch days on the north shore area during February 2005,
Had GT5 Prologue a few weeks after it came out,
Had GTPSP after seeing a gameplay video while not knowing it was released,
Had GT5 on Late-Holidays 2009,
Had GT6 nearly on release day,
Had GTSport since its open Demo,
Had GT7 since it's release hours.

Edit: Back then as a mid-teenager In GT1 I would spin the car countless amounts of time. 😅

Been here since the OG. Had an N64 back in the day. Went to Best Buy and they had a PS display with GT you could play. Saw the 1996 Viper Coupe, blue with white stripes. Went home and sold my N64 (put an ad in the local paper for all you youngins out there lol) so I could buy a PS and GT. And that, as they say, is history.

Back when the first gt game came out I knew nothing of cars or even care about cars. Then when the first gt came out my cousin had a ps1 and he bought gt1. I went over to his house and he told me about a new racing game he just bought. So we started to play it and I ask him when he got the money which car was he gonna buy and he showed me the Viper GTS in blue with white stripes and it was love at first sight for me. After that I ask for a ps1 and gt1 since than I have own every mainline GT game.

1998 - GT1
1999 - GT2
2002 - GT3
2005 - GT4
2010 - GT5
2014 - GT6
2018 - GTS
2022 - GT7

My favorite video game series of all time (besides the Mass Effect trilogy).

I vividly remember going to the store and buying Gran Turismo 4 on release when I was 13 years old. It was the first game I bought with my own money I got from a student job during the summer break. Good times!
My favorite video game series of all time too (but now Eve from Stellar Blade has entered my Ferrari 812).

Congrats Polyphony Digital!

Congratz to the team & KAZ for his vision, hard work and pasion since the beginning (these guys changed the industrie and I love being able to experience it firsthand, those years were truly special)

I'm here with GT since PSX times, and I fell in love with GT2 (some time after playing GT1 in a friend's house)

I think GT is living a great moment now, and can't be more happy with that.

Long live to GT

Own all major releases, plus Concept from 2002 and GT PSP + GT4 and 5 Prologue. Favourite game series ever. Will always keep buying PlayStations just for GT.

Gents, what I am missing in this thread: sales estimates for GT7? 13-14 million? Does it REALISTICALLY have the chance of becoming the best selling GT title ever and thus dethrone GT3? (15 million+ I believe?)

Here's to the next 100 million!

Congratulations to PD and Kaz.

I still remember when I first caught the bug.

I saw GT 1 on display with a demo running in the window of a game store back then.

Later, I borrowed my brother's PS 1 and got a stack of demo CDs with it. Gran Turismo was among them, and that was it.

I bought the Play Station just because of Gran Turismo.

I was around 27 years old at the time. Man, that was a long time ago.

Almost exactly my experience. The only difference is that it was GT4. (SSR5)

My friends had video games, and I'd watch them play, but I was never interested in playing them.
But after I saw those ultra-realistic cars (lol), I decided to buy a copy of the game and use their console.
I was a car enthusiast and wanted to find out if the Chrysler 300M was in the game, and luckily, some car lists were incorrectly saying it was. (And that's how I discovered GTPlanet, too.)
I didn't even plan on driving the cars; I just wanted to see them spinning at the dealership.

And what made me buy the PS2 was the Mercedes SLR: "I want to see that car spinning on my living room TV" :D

I hope my friends at GTPlanet don't mind me telling my story for the thousandth time. :gtpflag:

Gran Turismo taught me how to drive in the real world, so much so that I was behind the wheel for two years before I could get a real license from the government.
Gran Turismo is more than a professional simulator; it is a special lifestyle, with special discipline, charm, and indescribable excitement.
