I knew it would happen sooner or later...

Also, im not sure about the weight on the CF rims. Im sure the only reason people would buy it is the weight but if its not going to be that much lighter then whats the point you already know its going to cost an arm and a leg. Carbon Fiber sure does look nice though, :D

I like them, I think they look cool, and it would be a nice touch to a car that already has a lot of Carbon Fiber, but I wouldn't buy them until a reputable maker put them out, such as Volk, Advan, or anything made by Ray's

unless they had a great weight drop i wouldnt buy them

Aren't there doubt about carbon fibre's longetivity when subjected to constant vibration. It's probably fine for 2-300km on an F1 car, but give them 30,000km on a road car....

Indeed - I now realise I was thinking suspension. Lucky I'm at work - I wouldn't want to be this out of it at home.

They've had carbon fiber wheels for ATV's for years now. I would never drive a car with wheels that were raw carbon fiber like that. Perhaps if they were painted black, or something I would consider it.

*throws up*
I bet somebody came up with that in their garage. While they were laying down the carbon fiber sticker inserts onto their dash, they sat back and thought of the 37 other places they could stick it.. and than this is how this wheel was made.

I wrote to them to find out more info on the wheels and here is their response...

"Thank you for your interest in our new SYSTEM ONE wheel line.

Over the next few months we will be releasing several other designs, and sizes such as 18x10 / 19x10/11 an others. As of right now, our only available wheel is the SYSTEM ONE, which you see in our advertisements.

The SYSTEM ONE weighs in at:

17" - 19lbs.
18" - 22lbs.
19" - 25lbs.

These wheels are aluminum wrapped in a layer of carbon fiber. They are not designed to be extremely lightweight, more for visual aesthetics.

If you are looking for an extremely light wheel, we are developing a wheel in the near future which is strictly for the racing enthusiast. The wheel will look similar to the SYSTEM ONE however weigh only 12 lbs. for the 17"... These wheels will be priced around $2500/ set.

Please feel free to call or write with any questions or comments that you may have. We will answer them as promptly as possible.

Thank You,
Jordan"

As you can see the C/F is just for looks ans they are still aluminum wheels wrapped in C/F. If you want light weight i'll sell you a set of 11.5 lb Velox wheels for about the same price if not cheaper.

Carbon fiber is too brittle for automotive wheels. The wheels need to flex a bit, and CF would start to crack at the stress points. CF works best when stress can be distributed over a large area. Yes, there are bike wheels and ATV wheels, but the forces are much lower and the results of failure less catastrophic.

CF by itself would not make a very durable wheel. It would probably be much wiser to use titanium or magnesium machined out of a solid block. Due to machining difficulties of these materials they would be grossly exp...

CF could be used to reinforce aluminum to make for a fairly light wheel... and fairly durable...

oh, so they're just coated in cf...
sounds logical.

i personally LOVE cf...i try to buy as much stuff in cf and fake cf as possible...anyway...i gotta admit..im kinda disapointed in how these rims look. Sure its carbon fiber, but it doesnt make any sense to wrap a heavy wheel in carbon fiber....why dont they jus make one out of carbbinf iber...itll weight like 5 pounds...:O :odd:

ricers love fake carbon fibre.

gives it the racing "effect" and adds 5hp for every square cm that is used.

isnt that right, BeN_SpeC2?

;)
