This thread is dedicated to cars that you think could have been better, but didn't really end up being great (in your estimation). Think of cars that could have been better perceived, better at handling, more powerful, better looking, or anything else you want to include.

I'll start.

I think the latest Toyota Celica could have been better. Now many of you can probably recall the last Celica. It had four big lights at the front, available in front or rear wheel drive. Horsepower went from low up to 276. When the latest Celica came out, it was edgy, had the little grill and everything. Horsepower numbers don't really touch the 200hp club. To me, the Celica is VERY racy. It is almost as if you can tune the NA engine to 300hp, slap on racing tires, a functional touring car or GT wing to help, and the end result? Weekend road racer. In the tuner department, the car is porbably the more popular in the Toyota line. I obviously think horsepower could have been at least 225 or 260, with four-wheel drive. Other than that, I don't think the car is a disappointment.

Now it's your turn. Agree/disagree with my claim, or come up with your own. I'll step back and await replies.

Not available in RWD. I didnt like the last celica. I did like the alltrac though. Cool...ish. What could have been better? Scion. Toyota has no grasp of what kids these days want, and the Scion products are evidence of such. Great idea, horrible execution.

The RX-8. It looks like a family car but it's suppose to be a sports car. The should change the design of it. But I still like it ;)

Renaultsport Clio V6 (MkI and II)

It has the looks, sound and the drivertrain layout, but also the following could have been better:

Weight
The target weight for the car was missed by about 200 kilos and it hurts the car in a big way, lower weight would have improved this car in so many ways.

Handling
The Mk I will try to kill you in the wet (this is from personal experience) the short wheel base and relativly narrow track gives it a narrow line between being in control and loseing it, and when it goes it goes quickly. The Mk II has a wider track, slightly longer wheelbase, revised suspension and steering geometry which addresses most of the problems.

Interior
When you spend £27,000 on a Clio you want an interior that looks at least like they are trying. Its basically the same as the 172 interior (different gear stick surround) and the low rent plastics are very nasty).

Still given all the above I would still have one in a heartbeat.

hiya! :D :O

cars that could have been better to me would be all those Scions. I dont really know much about them or ever driven or looked inside them, except its electrical. Its just that I dont like its appearance and how its appearance just look "TOO" boxy compared to modern day cars in my opinion. Also, I heard its actually slow like VERY SLOW and that its interior is just so small. I just just hope Scion will improve over the years to make them more spacy and possibly move a bit faster to keep up with traffic if it really is that slow like people told me. :D :O

Honda Prelude: Overweight, Underpowered, Wrong Wheel Drive, all underneath what was actually a decent looking coupe.

The new Mercury Marauder could have been really awesome I think, except it ended up with a four speed auto and a not so huge amount of power. I think it would have been really cool with more like 400hp and a six speed manual :p

Any FF 'performance' car, most of which have been covered already. Only exception to this are hatchbacks like the Mini.

I think Nissan should have put a twin turbo model in for the 350z and also add 2 more seats, just like the 300zx.

I agree that it should have been turbocharged but otherwise leave the rest as is.

240 should have had more power..
"240sx great car looking for a great engine"...
any mustang gt, in comparison to the z28, a gt sucks!
+ the stang interior
(btw i love stangs and will one day own an '03-'04 cobra)

The 240sx had a good engine (as Silvia), but Nissan denied it to the 240sx :(

Oh well we dont get 240sx's here in Aus anyway, we get 200sx's :D joy

Every vehicle that is not the best in its class could have been better - how hard is it to follow an established formula? I know Ford wants sales, so why not go after the Accord with the Taurus? It makes no sense. Minivan buyers want power now so Ford responds with one of the least-powerful six-cylinder minivan engines on the market. Why even bother?

I can come up with an example like that for every car manufacturer - Ford just took the brunt of it by chance; I flipped from the Ford Taurus page to the Mercury Monterey page.

The C4 Corvettes. It's a horrible car to get into, the emergancy brake confused me, and maybe it would rattle Doug.

Actually - I've driven plenty of C4 Corvettes and I loved them, but I'd not driven a manual or a Grand Sport until mine was delivered - I didn't even test one. I've only spent part of a weekend with mine, but it was decent - clearly no daily driver, though, so one more (and maybe two!) car is in order...

And what will those be?

I want an old (96-01) Audi A8 and/or a yellow Volvo 850 T-5R sedan. But a month ago, I wanted an Alfa Romeo 164 rather than the Volvo. My tastes change rather frequently, see.

I can't find the Volvo, and I'm in a holding pattern on the Audi - I'd only get it from an auction in New Jersey which sells stuff for practically free, but they only have 1997s, which means no Tiptronic. And you need Tiptronic, you know?

Custom wheels suck. I've NEVER seen a car whose look is enhanced by custom wheels. Stock wheels are always - 100% of the time - better than anything else.
