Grown to hate;

Mini Cooper

I've had an up and down kind of thing for the New Mini. I hated it when it first came out for the reason that Issigonis original Mini could never truly be replaced. After a while it grew on me a lot and for a while I actually considered getting one. Now however I'm back to where I used to be with it. There are sooo many on the roads here and I don't really want to be associated with the kind of people that drive them here - the pretentious fashionista crowd. For me, the most recent facelifted one also looks really soft and dull.

👎👍👎 New Mini

Here's a car that I very quickly grew to love. The Ferrari 599 GTB. The first time I saw it in the press pics, I thought it looked awkward and souless and I almost weeped when I saw they'd done away with Ferrari's traditional quad rear lights. The first one I saw on the road was a dark grey one and it just looked altogether uninspiring. It was waiting at traffic lights so I never got to hear just how good they sound. After seeing quirte a few on the roads and hearing a couple being driven with a heavy right foot, I have to say that I think this car is phenomenol. I has absolute road presence, an epic soundtrack and is built to an amazing standards topped off with almost unparalleled handling. It's possibly my favourite currently produced car and I am ashamed that I ever dismissed it so easily. Ferrari, I salute you!

The MINI is one of those cars I hated at first, I thought they were small and impractical (but this was back in my day when I tried to be American about it). Now I've grown to love the car (obviously). Must be a different kind of market in America for them though, it's a cult car driven by people who don't care how overpriced it is or how expensive it is to maintain. Although the treehugging, hippie/yuppie crowd is starting to get a hold of them.

I'll be the first to tell you think the looks are less than desirable on the car, but I sort of have a thing for rather ugly vehicles.

What? Seriously?

I don't think you have any idea how much some of us would be willing to give here in the US to have a car like that... Its just, stunning! As I understanding, well above par by every measure. Closest we'll get to it will be the Insignia come calendar year 2010, which will be sold here as the Saturn Aura.

I suppose it depends what you're used to. The UK is already overrun by new Mondeos and omnipresence certainly dulls their looks. It isn't a "bad" looking car by any means, but nor does it have any particularly nice details. It's also rather slab-sided, and as has already been pointed out, it's a bit of a monster size-wise, and I don't like the automotive trend of upsizing everything with each new model (for example, the VW Polo is bigger than the Golf Mk1).

It is a good can undoubtably, but it's started to bore me very, very quickly.

I'm very aware I'm in a minority, but to me this...:

...is a better looking car than this...
2007-Ford-Mondeo-Sedan-05.jpg

More cohesive, better and more delicate details, more trimmed down (hard to describe, but apply it to humans and the new Mondeo has a bit of excess flab...) etc. Not as sleek maybe, but sleekness isn't the be-all and end-all.

These things are something of a legend in the UK. Almost everyone sees them as old people's cars. And they mostly are. But having owned one, my opinion changed completely. They drive like go karts, are fairly nippy and have tons of character! I've seen people put 1.8 VVC engines from Elises in these and turn them into absolutely mental pocket rockets. There's a guy I know who has a supercharged one that's putting out about 180bhp, which doesn't sound a lot but in a car that weighs around 900kg, it equates to a fair bit! Zastec also tuned one to do a 1/4 mile in 12 seconds!

I don't see them as old people's cars as much as I see them as deathtraps, to be honest. :scared:

Mini Cooper
I used to want one of these, before I opened my eyes and realised everyone seems to have one! To get the same performance and spec as my new favourite wanted car, the Swift Sport, you have to spend around £3,000 more! And then you've got no exclusivity whatsoever. I just think they're becoming a bit bland now...

Much as I hate to say it... I sort of agree. I do still love them deeply (they're just so lovely inside and out), they've totally lost any exclusivity. Except in the US, of course. If you want to be retro now, you've gotta have a Fiat 500. Although I get the feeling that driving one of those through certain parts of this country would be like driving this through Alabama:

When do we get to resurrect the Chevrolet vs Ford thread where I can destroy his little world?

Please! Please! Please!

Chrysler Concorde 👍

I always just saw them driving around and I figured what's the point. They're big, and fwd so they must be absolutely useless. This ended when I finally got into one. I sat down and I literally just wanted to fall asleep. It was the most comfortable interior that i've ever felt, plus having a very smooth ride. For some reason, though, I've always imagined one with a rwd conversion and big drag slicks

Hyundai Santa Fe 👎
hyundai_santa_fe.jpg

I could base my whole hatred for this car just on how ugly as sin it is, but I will go into even more detail. One of the biggest things is that it's uncomfortable and offers little in the area of space. They are also absolutely everywhere where I live. I don't know how anybody could find their Santa Fe in a parking lot, especially considering they're almost all in gold. I've also personally experienced it's best as far as braking and handling having a friend who is from New Jersey and drives worse then anybody there :scared:

More later, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

I have to admit that I agree with you. A friend of mine tasked me with "babysitting" his while he was on vacation last year, and I have to admit that while the quality (overall) of the car is absolutely dreadful, it nevertheless is one of the best cross-country cars I've ever been in. I can't think of a car I'd rather have if I were driving long-distance anywhere. Well, other than the more obvious and unrealistic choices.

It certainly looks dynamic, and cab-forward enough to balance out the visual enormity of drag slicks.

Jondot, you are hilarious!

LH platform ftw! :D

Toyota Supra👍
Toyota_Supra_Stealth.sized.jpg

Loved it since long time. The engine, the look...It's just beautiful & sounds real nice. You can drop it & put rims on it & it would look nice. I can say this can be an ultimate sleeper car. Count the 1986 Supra too! This will forever be my dream car & hopefully be a proud owner of one later in life.
Jaguar XJ220:tup:
jaguar-xj220.jpg

This car hear been loving it since Need For Speed II along with the Futuristic looking Ford. It just has a nice body into it & don't look ugly or nice. It's a tolerable car.
Ferrari F40👍
F4091247sid.jpg

Hmm.. I remember watching a program on danger on the highway some kind of show like that & this car was just climbing, & climbing, & climbing. This car is one fast mother. I like this car second the Ferrari F50. It's set on the ground & sounds original. This is what I once though it was the supercar to die for.

I really don't have no hate list but there is one car I dislike.
The Mercedes Benz R-Class looks like a funeral car & I don't like it.

Toyota Supra RZ:

What can I say? I love it. I don't know why, maybe it's the body-shape (curves!), maybe it's the power (280 horsepower stock!) or maybe it's that the JGTC version is one of the (IMHO) prettiest race car ever.

Nissan GT-R

The proof that when the Japanese have to create a supercar, they can. And oh God, what they made. Godzilla returns!

Hate:
Hm....No one. Really.

I used to think SEAT was pretty neat. Then I met a SEAT owner on the boards, and he attempted to thrust SEAT propoganda down my throat. So now it's on my dislike list.

*ahem*

Our ACERT Beats your TDi, Cummins, Bluetec, DURAMAX, or Power Stroke. Or HDI FAP. Or Deere. Seriously. I mean it. Not Joking.

Some interesting posts! But some people should remember that you need to post cars that you grew to love or hate, not just ones you either loved or loathed from the beginning until now.

For some (mainly myself), it sounded like cars that you loved or hated while growing up, or some of us take a long time to grow to love or hate these cars, and since not a lot of us are that old...

But thanks for clearing that up. I suppose the Corvette can get off my post now.

Ferrari F430 Scuderia 👍

ferrari_f430_scuderia_2.jpg

When I first learned about this car, I immediately preffered the original F430 to it. However, after watching the Top Gear episode on it, I began to like it. The sound, the look, and of the course the speed of this car, drew me into it.

Corvette Z06 👍

I had a bias against Corvettes for a while. But after a while, I grew to like it. Plus, it looks pretty good as well.

Nissan Skyline R34 GTR 👎

I used to be quite fond of this car, but after a while, I began to dislike it. I can't really put my finger on it, but I suppose it's because I feel that it looks too much like a tuner car.

So you want the GT-R to look like something its not? Let's see can I get a American Muscle Car but can you make it look like a airplane?
