The thought actually dawned on me, I wonder if that's a real Typhoon. You could and probably still can buy the parts to turn a normal Jimmy into a Typhoon pretty handily.

That would cost way too much money. Typhoon/Cyclone parts are VERY expensive even in slightly ragged shape.

From GM, ya of course, but I know there are knock offs out there and I know several people part them out. I was part of the S-truck culture for a number of years, I've seen Sy/Ty's come and go as well as some pretty decent replicas. Also there was also a lot of times where guys would get wrecked Sy/Ty's and take the engine and AWD system out of them and just junk the rest of the truck for parts.

Sweet Christmas. How much money did the government put into the program?!

:sly:

Whoops. I must have been drunk at the board.

Still, I didn't think they'd get through the (extra) $2 Billion that quick.

The Cyclone/Typhoon was bad enough, this is just wrong.

What's the big deal? It's just a Firebird.

Look closer Joey,as Mclaren pointed out,it is a GTA,and it is worth more than CFC offers.Thats more than likely a 350 c.i. and a possible 5 speed behind it. Bad Ass car.

Shame on the owner for this one. :grumpy:

Meh whatever, I'm over it. If people want to scrap their cars like that why should I pass judgement? Yes, they could have probably gotten more money for it trying to sell it, but not knowing their situation it's really hard for me to say whether they were right or wrong in doing so. Maybe they could no longer afford the car and needed reliable, daily transportation. I don't know and unless I speak to the owner I can only assume.

And I am just not interested in Firebirds so it doesn't bother me that it's scraped.

It's very possible that the GTA in question could have fallen into the "double CFC program" offered by certain dealers,$9000.00 for a GTA.I personally would have tried to sell it outright to who person who knows what this car is and it's worth in the future. You may have to sit on it for a bit,but there is a buyer out there somewhere.

Who knows, this car now is probably being turned into a door for a Cobalt or something like that.

Nah...right NOW it's probably still in the Billet processing stage. Nice, big, continuously-cast strands...

I've also heard that, (Went to a conference) because of the Zinc content, (electroplating,) Automotive scrap isn't as popular as other forms of scrap in steelmaking.

Dude you are seriously buggin'. Comments like this really get on my nerves. And because I can I will echo the others and tell you THAT IT IS NOT A BLOODY FIREBIRD.

A mint condition GTA is worth twice as much as what the C4C program gave him; the owner was an idiot.

Which tells me that the owner is most likely female or a retarded idiot male that has no clue about life.

And I am just not interested in Firebirds so it doesn't bother me that it's scraped.

You are really trying my patience. I'm almost at the point of violating this forum's rules just so I can insult you personally. But I won't.

The owner is an absolute IDIOT for doing this. Despite Joey's malcontent, GTA's are not just any old Firebird and finding one in such good condition as I see there is very difficult. A GTA is going to be (and already is probably) a collector's item and or a classic car. They obviously cared nothing for the car and its rarity. It is going to be childish of me but I hope the owner crashes his or her new car and totals it.

Dude, chill out. If it makes you angry enough to violate forum rules maybe you should just walk away from this discussion or just put me on your ignore list.

If you like Firebird's that's cool. I just happen to not like them so seeing one scraped out doesn't really concern me all that much. I respect your opinion on liking them, is it really so hard to respect mine for not?

IMO, Firebird is the awesomest car ever built by the Americans. Joey, you are stinky pants, doo doo face.

Was that so hard, JCE? Do I have your back or what? :D

P.S. I was wearing my Trans Am shirt just yesterday, and yes, it is awesome!

Except the fourth generation ones were built in Quebec .

You should edit your post, you might get a warning for that and I don't want that to happen. :D

I would respect you not liking them IF you got the right name for the car. Its a Trans-Am GTA and not a Firebird. Secondly, I'm more angry at the fact that the idiot owner did this than your comments--but that doesn't mean your comments don't royally piss me off. 👎 No need to ignore you, this will likely be forgotten in a week or two.

Why?!

It's a GTA. They only made them for 3 years, they are the top of the line Firebird of the time. They were the luxo Trans Am. With no performance loss.

I looked at one in my search before losing my job. It sold the day before I got my money together. It was on sale a week. The AC was broke, was a 305/auto, in primer with an ok interior for 1600. It was a STEAL. 105k miles too

Which is why I feel absolutely no pain for anything I've seen scrapped so far. The only car I've seen so far that I may have enjoyed having is the BMW 530i. I can easily overlook one of those in return for scrapping a crapload of, well, crap. Say what you want about "opinions" but I look at cars from a technical point of view, and bad engineering is bad engineering, regardless of personal taste. *Waits for someone to pull out some exceptions among the piles of Ford Explorers, Dodge Caravans, and Astro-Vans.*

A pretty beat up 300zx is being scrapped here at work. I'd very much like the 5lug conversion and 4 piston brakes off the front of it, not to mention the lsd differential, but oh well. I could probably buy them, but I don't exactly have the necessary parts to go along with swapping everything over, and they kind of need the brakes on the car, at least until it's dead.

EDIT: As far as I can tell a Firebird and Trans-Am are pretty much one and the same.

After seeing that GTA, I think I died a little bit on the inside.:( My '89 Camaro is nowhere near as nice as that car, and I would never let it share the same fate. What ever happened to the "Don't crush them, restore them," mentality? I bet Dennis Gage is a unhappy man after these last few weeks.

That's sad to see a car like that GTA scrapped. I know it means nothing to some people because it's "Crap engineering" but that's a sweet car right there, not a piece of garbage. I sure hope someone buys that cars body and gets it back on the road. Is owning a muscle car un-American now or something? Killing that car is just criminal.

I found 10+ Jeep Grand Cherokees on Craigslist that were minus the motor maybe two weeks ago. Said to be from C4C. All were minus the motor. Not saying it's legal, but it was what I need so...

Edit: There were also many other cars on the list, I was looking for Jeeps so I'm not sure what else, but there were at least 50 cars for sale.

And how did that generation work out?

Anyway, my thoughts on this whole thing is that I hate to see any functional car scrapped just because. I really hate it when it is some stupid government program that is supposed to boost the economy and help the environment, yet fails at booth and only succeeds in spending money taken from my paycheck.

I just have this all around respect for cars in general. I will even defend my wife's Yaris. It isn't a joy to drive, but I am not about to let anyone harm it in any way. It has little to do with its value (although I will factor that in when it comes time to make amends for any damage to my car) but the pure fact that you do not mess with another person's car. End of story.

A car is more than a tool and I die a little inside when I see someone toss one aside like a candy bar wrapper. But then, I have named all my cars and talk to them too.

A car is more than a tool to you, but not others. Most people view cars as a tool.

I know, which is why I don't try arguing the point, but realizing this makes me sad.

I think I get it from my mom, or at least she understands it. When we talk she asks first how I am doing, then my wife, then the dog, then the cat, and then the car, but calling him Jack, as if he is just another one of the family members/pets.

I hope you weren't expecting any better...

I name my cars too and to me, my car is more than just a tool to me. But I still don't really care whether cars are scraped or not. For the most part CARS got crap off the roads and people driving something new. It also helped out dealers that had a ton of inventory too. It wasn't the best programme ever but I can think of a whole heap load more that have been worse.
