I have been thinking about making this thread for awhile, seeing the success of G.T's Coffee and Tea thread.
Thought I would give it a shot.

I have known people who love Dogs but hate Cats, haven't known anyone who feels the other way.

For me it has to be Cats, I love them. :D

How about you?

Dogs.

It's a loyalty/attitude thing, I think. Cats are independent, but still yowl like hell at you for food. Dogs will check you're okay first, then go play by themselves until you need them. And then they'll wait patiently for food, trying not to slobber. :D

Having said that, I've never owned a dog (never found one I didn't like/didn't like me) but I've owned a cat (took in a rescue 'just for Christmas' and ended up keeping 'Jones'. Only Jones so I could call it 'sh...head' legitimately. :D)

I put "both", since if I only selected "dogs", my cat will kill me in my sleep.

Oops i accidentally picked neither. Is it possible to change it to both since i do like both.:)

I have both but I prefer my cat. My cat takes care of its own bathroom needs, doesn't tug on my pants leg just for fun, hasn't (to my knowledge) eaten his own poo, hasn't eaten anything he can get his mouth on, and is quite content to lay next to me/on my lap while I play video games without demanding anymore attention.

My dog reminds me of a kid that thinks you are just the coolest guy ever and just wants to be with you no matter what, and is offended if you don't constantly pay attention to him. It is kind of like the psycho fan that wants total recognition from their idol, or else.

Oh, and my cat doesn't try to see if he can clean out my nose and ears with his tongue.

I use to like dogs better because cats only come to you when they want something. But having owned a dog for almost a year now, I realize cats have their pros too. Specially in the "cleanness" department.

And the cats independence sometimes is good too, it really brakes my heart when my dog wants some attention and I just don't have the time to give it to him.

I've always liked dogs... Almost all my life I've had dogs too. My current dog is the best there is, mostly because although I've always had dogs, they've been dogs of the house, purchased, raised and fed by my parents. This one is just mine.

I like dogs, but I currently have fish :dopey:
Hey, my cat likes fish. :trouble:

I have fish too, but the most my cat does is stand on his hind legs and look in. I keep the tank far enough away from other furniture that he can't get into it. Considering puffer fish are poisonous that is probably a good thing.

Undecided.

I love my dogs, but I'm surprised I'm not deaf after all the barking for meals/at the UPS truck.

I want a cat... but I'm allergic to them, plus they're a tad more aloof than I prefer.

I'm a dog guy. There was only one cat that I ever liked, and she acted more like a dog then most dogs, and unfortuantly she passed away a couple of years ago now. I prefer the loyalty and companionship of a dog to the "I'll come see you when I want something" attitude of a cat.

I love my cat :D

My cat likes to play fetch. I'll throw a dasani cap (its thinner), he'll run over and go crazy on it, then he'll pick it up in his mouth and put it in my palm.

Rats, obviously.

Take the best of dogs and cats, shrink it into a small package that won’t tear up your furniture or bark at night, and you’ve got a rat.

I am going to sit on the fence: Both 👍

My cat sits on the fence.

More seriously, living in a house with two cats and two dogs I have to say that I prefer the cats. They clean up after themselves and assist in vermin control. The dogs on the other hand leave their mess on the path for you to step in, and disturb the peace by barking at anything that moves. They all come asking for food, but the dogs are more vocal about it and more demanding of your time. At least the cats keep themselves busy whilst I play GT4.

Umm, Sage... have you ever had a rat lose in your house? They chew up everything, put holes in furniture, etc.

I'm a cat guy, pretty much for all the reasons Foolkiller listed.

And Diego, I'm sorry you have what looks like a Huskie... most whiny and noisy dogs ever. Currently watching one for a friend, and I am going nuts listening to it whine and bark over EVERYTHING.

And Foolkiller, you have a saltwater tank? How is that working for you, as they just seem to be alot of work last I remember.

Cats.

I'm not sure whether I've just been around the wrong type of dog all the time, but everyone I've met it just too lively. Cats are much nicer, until they make me sneeze. :p

They usually make little or no noise. Maybe it's been raised to whine when it wants something. The breed rarely barks, they just howl. but, they are dogs of one owner, so whenever they'e away from said owner, they get very sad and that's another reason why it may be so noisy. Is the one you're looking after as noisy when the owner's with him/her? However, my dog had a throat infection and had her vocal cords removed, so trust me when I say she is silent.

@Solid Lifters: How many tries did you take before that pic?

He's cute.

Yes, I’ve had them loose, both intentionally and unintentionally, and the only damage I’ve ever had is one wire chewed (on something that I was going to throw away anyway). Put holes in furniture? They’re just rats, not power drills!

By the way, the “unintentionally” includes two rats escaping in the middle of the night and wandering around the house, and they didn’t do a bit of damage – one even came into my room and seemed intent on waking me up, probably because she was hungry.

Then again we’ve had a family of wild raccoons walk around throughout the house while we were gone, and they didn’t damage a thing.

Beautiful dog.

I'm a bigtime dog person. Here's why:

1) Dogs actually give a crap about you.
2) A dog can be a useful security system.
3) You can actually play with dogs. Cats do nothing. Kittens are slightly play-with-able, but they grow out of that.
4) You can hug a dog (decent sized ones anyway).
5) Dogs can be trained to take care of their own bathroom needs - whereas cats require you to empty the damn box when it starts stinking the house up.
6) You can go on walks/jog with your dog.
7) You can pick up chicks with a dog.

The downside:
1) More food.
2) More fur.
3) More time required.
4) You have to have space/land to have a decent sized dog.
5) You'll care about them when they die.

I obviously am the only one to vote neither. I dont know why but i hate dogs. I dont hate cats alot but they still annoy me. So i have a pet bird :) I think im gonna get flamed for this :indiff:

I'm taking care of a friends dog and he is not so bad. He's a German Sheppard and i think he's about 8 or 9. The dog doesn't seem to be eating much of anything though. Now that i have taken him for a walk, He jumps all over me (his nails hurt :scared:) whenever i get there, so i have to take him for a walk/run every day now :grumpy:

The one thing about dogs i don't like is their smell and slobber. I've give my cat a workout (Laser pointer :D) and all he does is pant and lay on the tile after.

5) You'll care about them when they die.
You don't think people care about cats dying, then?

Sure, I understand you can get to know your dog better, but you can definitely get attached to cats as well!

He's cute.

Yeah, but cats don't care whether you live or die, as long as you feed them. (Some) Dogs are smart enough to follwo your moods... if you're happy, they're happy; if you're not, they'll settle down.

Dan
2) More fur.

Tell me about it... My dog is shedding her coat and I have to brush her everyday. This is after a 20 minute brushing session.

You, sir, have insanely good luck with animals then. We have some dagu (rodents from south america) and they have destroyed anything that they get their hands on. Left a small cloth next to the cage... and they slowly pulled it in and shredded it!

@Solid Lifters: How many tries did you take before that pic?

Wasn't me. That's not my dog. It's an internet friend's dog. I used the pic because it looked cool and I had it on my HDD.

Our Bob is a Golden Retriever and I have no idea what happened to his pic.
