unless you are not changing the cat box for a week, you wont have a problem with smelly litter boxes. My sister usually cleans the cat box once or maybe even twice a day.

I can still hug my cat and he's 'technically' a kitten, he has gotten so big since we got him :D

Same here he was so ikle last year....but we still love him...

Yes Whiskas we still love you too......

I'll have to go for cats on this one, since our last dog died, we decided not to take one anymore, we loved her so much, the pain was too much. We had her for about 4-5 years before she died of a cancer...She was bleeding heavily so we decided to take her to a doctor ASAP, she had surgery, but when we arrived back at home, it turned out she was dead, I kept crying that whole night, even if it were only 3 years ago...

We've had many cats as well but we found a cat to be easier to keep, but that may be due to the fact that our last dog was HUGE, if she jumped on me, I just fell, she was that heavy...(A little bit too heavy...) But anyway, our cat is very hygenic, he doesn't even use the catbox, he goes outside, digs a hole where we don't come, and takes his time. Also, he's a coward, he gets frightened by the smallest thing but that's just the adorable part about him, he spends his time outside for most of the time but in the evenings, he comes and sits on our laps, going from person to person to get his portion attention from everybody, and then he makes his choice on whom he'll be sleeping on untill we go to bed  He also sleeps with us, on our beds. Just like Foolkiller said, our cat also seems to be able to indicate whether we are happy or not. I rarely get angry but when I am, I don't spot him all day long while everybody else has seen him...The weirdest part though, is that he does not drink water from a bowl or anything similar. Unlike a dog or cat that have their food and water bowls, our cat goes in the bathroom, "miauws" for us and then we need to hug him, and turn on the water. That's the only water he drinks when he's inside, he's probably the most hygenic cat we've ever had...And although he spends a lot of time outside, somehow his fur always manages to stay perfectly clean, smooth and shiny 👍

If I'm to take a pet in my house later in my life, I'm taking a car without any hesitation :)

these are my 3 mutts. Alfie the Lab, Boicy the Collie and gypsy a top class mutt! Such intelligence and willing to please you'll never find in a cat! You can't take a cat for a walk or swim and they won't fetch a ball or frisbee back for you whilst wagging it's tail just telling you your the best thing ever in their lives!! Cats are pets for the lazy who require little sometimes no interaction in my opinion. which is why i also have two of those!!!

Strongly disagreed, cats also show their love when they sit on your lap, or when they let you hold them for quite a while. I can't see a strange cat jumping on your lap, beginning to make their "rrrr" noise and sleep for about an hour straightaway...Also, cats never smell unless they're really really unhygenic, that's one of things I hate when dogs have been outside in the wet, they love to be dirty, or some tend to be and then they really smell

For about $45 you can get a filtering cat fountain that is designed for finicky cats like yours.

Thats because a cats mouth is too small to catch those things. I throw a piece of paper and my cat will leap and catch it midair. Sometimes he'll even catch the bottle cap i throw when i want to play fetch with him

Mine drink out of a bowl. But mine will come outside my window and "meow" until I open it for him to climb in....He is my strange little cat.
Here's a picture of the two of them. This is a picture from when they first actually got on for once (They always used to fight).

Well sort of mine. His owner died and now he prowls the streets, but it's only ever me who feeds him so he spends most of the time with me.

You let them out, they go to the part of your yard that you've designated for them to poo on (like say, over in the ground cover where nobody walks or can see it), and they return. You never have to see, smell, touch, or interact at all with the poo - unlike with cats.
We let our cat out in the morning and she does her business and the same again in the evening. She will only use her litter box if she really has to if we aren't home to let her out.
You can even train a cat to use a toilet , I don't know that I'd want my cat using my toilet and I am not sure that you can teach them to flush (unless its the cat on Meet the Fockers).

This be our dog btw, family dog...I'd want a cat but unfortunately he doesn't mix well with them...he's as thick as two short planks and unfortunately has been suffering epileptic fits of late...but I guess he's all right sometimes

(sorry about the image size...it's nicked straight off my DeviantART account so...eh if it needs to be resized let me know >->

Personally i'm a cat person & would love to own one, but the rest of my family hate them.

I know people that use the arguments that cats scratch people for no reason, but i've been around plenty of my friends cats & they have never hinted at attacking us.

Dogs on the otherhand, well to be blunt, i hate the things. I've had too many bad experiences with them. One time, a mate & i were walking down the street near our houses & he started running down the street (we were pretty young at the time) and i was about to follow him, when out of a driveway a pretty medium sized dog started bolting after him & began snapping between his legs.

Now, if that same situation was to happen to us at our age now, i would have no hesitation to kick the crap out of it in self defense even though it was someones dog. (who obviously couldn't control it)

Cats FTW in my book....

That cat looks very similar to my very own Milo.

I'v e had both cats and dogs.
I think they're delicious!!!

Actually, I've had dogs that I loved, smart dogs, stupid dogs, and one little black cocker/poodle that was truly one for the "short bus".

I've also had a number of cats, and they are fairly self sufficient. You can leave your cat at home and go on a week's vacation. If they have a self feeder, and waterer, they'll be fine.
Do that with a dog and he'll greet you at the door wondering where the hell you've been, cause he's been hungry for six days!

I've only had one "aloof" cat. And she just doesn't like all the excitement generated by my six boys. As they've all gotten older and calmer, she has become quite affectionate.
My old blue, has ALWAYS been affectionate. Sometimes annoyingly so. He sleeps on my wife's head, often sticking his very clod nose into her ear. It has yet to amuse her nearly as much as it amuses the cat.

Point is, I've gone from growing up a true cat hater, into a cat tolerator. Hell, I even loved one of those damn things once. But he just looked and talked like a cat. He thought he was a sailor. He loved to go out at night and chase girls and carrouse. Then he'd come in, usually as I was on my way to work, and find a nice quiet place to "sleep it off".

you can often walk past cats in the street that you don't know and they will come to you for fuss.... they can only really jump on your knee if you let them in the house and you shouldnt do that with other people's cats.... lol

we also have to consider the life saving capabilities of dogs... sight dogs, rescue dogs, sniffer dogs... the list goes on. i know this is going to lead some people to point out that dogs bite, but please dont get me started on bad owners bad pets. i'm quite protective about the whole thing!!!

Im not going to say dogs are better than cats because their not. It depends on what kind of person you are. If you like cats and buy a dog you might not be able to train them properly and they could become a nightmare. If your a dog person and buy a cat you may be disappointed and may not love it or care for the cat the way your supposed to.

Ive looked after cats a few times and I own a dog and I think dogs are a lot more rewarding than cats. I really enjoyed looking after a cat but they do get boring after a little while.
Proper trained dogs can become one of the family. I dont see my puppy like a pet, more like a new member of our family. I couldn't imagine seeing a cat like that though.
I was going to say you cant really play with cats but it depends on what people think of what play is...With Tyson I play tug of war and push him around and chase him etc.. stuff like that, Cats cant do that.

Beautiful dog Diego, I'm a big fan of Huskies myself (Hard not to when you have 7 :p), I like cats too, so I had to say both so my cat wouldn't poop in my floor, right below where i put my feet when I jump out of the top bunk of my bed :p.

From,
Chris.

Nice Husky; I must have missed that photo. All it does is reinforce the ownage eh?

The only downside to owning a Husky is that they require plenty of exercise, a problem we have since it only has 1.5 acres (of 4.5) land to run around and, since every house in our street has one or more dogs that bark and chase you, walking it down the street (or merely getting it motivated to do so) is problematic.

I'm a big fan of both. I have a Daschund, Border Collie and a Jack Russell. Never had a cat but I love playing with them. I just got back from my mother in laws in Marbella Spain and she had found a stray kitten. Got a photo of me here with it.

Cats for me. Don't mind dogs, I just prefet cats (apart from the hair-loss, which gets a little annoying).

EDIT

Mine has since taken up residence under my duvet.

Of course, liking Foxes is kinda sitting on the fence anyway...they're kinda halfway between dogs and cats.

For reasons I am not going to explain, I take great offence at this remark!

The smartest foxes are the calm ones. They see you coming, then they sit down and you can see them working you out.

I love foxes and wolves. A husky is a very cool substitute. :)
