What's next, the raccoons?!

I already had a cat and I now have a dog and I must say (and has everybody said) they have their pros and cons, but I prefer cats. They are more independent, they don’t need all the attentions in the world, they don’t feel jealous and they are more clean, although they can ruin the furniture. Dogs need to be teached to do something, they are annoying but they care about a person, especially the owner.

Dogs bring cats as presents :trouble:
Don’t believe on that. I had a cat that never ran away from a dog. Instead, the dog/s ran away from him. I remember one day, I was passing down my street and saw my cat face to face with a dog (with big structure) and after some seconds the dog ran away with the tail between the legs. Also, in recent days my dog was attacked by 3 cats in my yard.:indiff:

My aunt's dog does exactly the same thing. He happily shares his home with 2 cats, but is really freaked out by mine. It's not as though she's hissing at him or anything - she just kinda sits there and seems mildly unimpressed while he runs back and forth pining. It was a bit of a surprise, really. After years of deliberately keeping them apart for fear she'd run away, we needn't have bothered.

Cats do have a nasty habit of bringing you the mice they've killed.
They seem truly proud of them.
One of my current cats used to bring me the ass-half of every mouse he killed.

Chorus:
Love them mousies
Mousies what I love to eat.
You know I bites they little heads off
I nibbles on they tiny feet!

What a half-assed job.

Sorry, sorry… Touring Mars Syndrome. :ouch:

I did sorta open the door for that one,
But I got the whole mouse-ass not half!
My cat don't play me cheap!!

Could be worse; my Husky often used to bring me the 'ass-half' of every blue-tongue lizard he could find (which was every second day in the Summer). And their guts spilt everywhere.

I prefer cats. I have one myself. She is a black and white female kitten. I don't know why, but i get nervous around dogs... feels like they're gonna attack you. With a cat, the worst they can do if they attack you is scratch you a lot, but with a dog, you know that they could tear your pear and 2 apples right off you if they wanted. Also, dogs are high-matinence and can grow to be quite big whereas cats are relativeley low-matinence and give you twice as much affection.

wooooh! That was a long post!

My cat (Tiger) decided to bring me two birds last night he bought them in my room, then ate every last morsel of them, while I was asleep......

I woke up to the sound of munching.....the cracking of bones, the feathers blowing around my room, the blood stain on my carpet.....

That could've been anything else, other than that.

How can you be so sure it wasn't an alien that came and ate the neighbours pterodactyl?? :odd:

+1 for that possibility.

When I stood up to see what was going on my cat ran away from my room leaving the bird on the floor. Well when I mean bird I mean a small part of a bird presumably the feet. He doesn't like to eat them.

Did you see my dog? They come in small sizes. In fact, when he is full grown my cat will outweigh him by at least 2-1.

Three words: Collar with bell.

My cat has that and he can't sneak up to catch anything. He lost the collar in a fight with a stray one day and in the three days it took me to get him a new one he killed two mice outside, that I know of.

With the bell his hunting has been relegated to sitting under the power line meowing at the birds to try and get them to come to him. Sometimes he gets close. I've seen him creep up on a bird and then just as he leans back and his haunches tense up for the pounce *jingle*.

6 Words: He can get out of collars.

We have had overall 5 collars none of which have stayed on for longer than 3 days. We have had the safety collars which only come off when caught on something and the normal types. He just get's out of them so easy. He is a very clever cat.

We have one of those cat flaps which lock, he is so clever that when we put the cat flap on in only he can open it from the inside of the house and then go out. He also climbs in windows.

My next door neighbour has found foot prints made from Tiger in their home, presumably he has climbed in one of the windows. He is really a evil master mind in disguise.

My wife had the same problem, then I tightened the collar. The number one issue with collars is that many people think it is too tight when it isn't tight enough. My mom loosened my cat's collar one day, thinking "it looked awfully tight." Ten minutes later he ran by without his collar.

Cats are escape artists and some do have a knack for completely removing any kind of collar, but most of the time you just need to think a step ahead of them.

I have always thought that cats are two opposable thumbs from taking over the planet. We can't have decorative doorknobs because he knows how they work. The only reason he can't get through a normal round doorknob is that he lacks the ability to grip it properly, not that he hasn't tried.

Mine manages to catch birds despite the bell. Admittedly it's only about one a month, but still. Mice tend to be a lot easier for her to catch, for some reason. Maybe she corners them or something...

Space and number of thinsg to catch may ahev something to do with it. We have about 5 acres worth of land that he can run on, plus whatever neighbor's property he gets onto and not much in the way of wooden fences.

I also think he is getting old. He turned 7 this year and he isn't as hyper as he once was.

He has killed a butterfly or two, but they don't run just because he's around.

There's also the possibility that I am just unaware that he is killing them.

Great conversation going on here guys. 👍
Looks like it is pretty even between Dogs and Cats.

I will make I more detailed post when I am not so tired, and when I find some good shots of our Cat. :)

this is my cat Tigger. For a full grown cat shes quite small. She recently went missing for five months. We think she climbed into a boat or lorry (both are very near by), then had to find her way home. She was so hungry and thin when she got back. I suppose finding its way home from a distance is something that a dog could never do, although mine could from around my town. We live next to a river and marina and she has bought home all sorts of 'presents' including birds, voles, baby rabbits, chicks and herons. She once bought home what we believe to a duck or pigeon. It was hard to tell exactly what it was as she only left the wings!

I also have another cat which is black and white called Moyles. Unlike the radio presenter he was named after hes very anti social and never likes to come in the house. The only person he will have anything to do with is my son, but he has to fuss him out in the garden!

Give me my dogs who want to go everywhere with me anyday!

We've had all sorts of pets. we had to rehome the parrot cos the cat was a natural born killer and the rats cos one of the dogs developed a keen interest!

The bell collar works a charm on our current cat, Tilly. I think she's a bit too fat to catch anything these days, though :P Our old cat, Moet, however.. she was a bit too clever for something so simple. She used to chew on the bell so it wouldn't tinkle. That was only after we tightened the collar enough that she couldn't just squeeze out of it altogether.

Yeah, before I got the collars properly adjusted my cat could get his lower jaw worked under it and then pull it off (safety collar). Once I got it adjusted he has removed a number of bells. I will give him credit. This newest collar is a different brand and he has mastered moving without riniging the bell, unless he runs, jumps, or scratches. But he snuck up on me the other night in the dark. One minute I was just walking the dog and the next the dog was barking and growling and this ghostly looking thing appeared out of the dark about five feet away. He got a bit closer and I realized it was him. He gave me a scare though.

Yes, that might be it. We've got a relatively small garden with lots of places for her to hide, and just over the fence there's a load of bushes which are probably home to countless mice. She's not exactly a big thing either, so she probably creeps around quite well.
