Today I was going to install a PC game when I noticed my CD drive didn't show up when I clicked on my computer. There is no D:/ drive at all. I went into the Device Manager and it said it was unable to load drivers for the CD Drive. I uninstalled the drivers and added the CD Drive as new hardware but it said the exact same thing. Is there any way I can fix this without having to do a full reinstall of windows?

Check and make sure that your cables are connected correctly.

Surely loose cables wouldn't have anything to do with the drivers

What make is your cd drive, how old is it, did it come in your pc, or did you add it later, and is it an external or internal drive?

Loose cables would have a big say in whether or not the drive actually shows up in the Device Manager and in My Computer, however.

You should also try updating your drive's Firmware.

I did a windows reinstall, nothing was working. I tried updating the firmware but in order to do that, the program needed to recognize CD Drive, but that didn't show up obviously. Thanks for the help anyway though 👍

It's working fine after the re-install, something with the drivers must have gotten messed up.

format is the final solution
i always look first before i do it.
i didn't format my computer for over a year now.

Me neither. I've never even had to reinstall a pc before the toshiba laptop came along ... Now i've done it like 14 times in 6 months, all on the same machine.

Happened to me when I uninstalled itunes
