Also, it's so cheap only because it's the british version and has the wheel at the other side, am I correct?
 
Nope. It's £7k because it's a very early (2008) E92 and has nearly 200,000 miles on it.

An M-Sport version with 106,000 miles is £8,750 on Autotrader - still around your price range.

This is the exact model i was talking about (330cd E46).
cheaper unit

Even though its kinda old, for me still really cheap for such a car, its like a classic that never gets old, great value for money, good top speed, good torque and acceleration, good mpg, great looking, sporty... what more can you ask for? Petrol instead of diesel? Too much to ask it seems

Also, am I the only one who prefers the E46 to the E92?

RB25s aren't exactly reliable. Boom! There goes the head gasket.
 
I have no idea how plentiful these are in Europe, but the Lexus SC300/Toyota Soarer meets all the requirements.

Yeah....wait what?

You'd have to be shagging the absolute crap out of an RB25 to do in a head gasket. Most of the times you'd hear about such an occasion are the drift builds. RB25s are very reliable street engines which, let's be honest the OP doesn't seem interested in doing any competitive drifting do they, and the head gaskets are actually one of the last things to go, usually the oil pump being first if it does.

The RB25DET NEO in the R34s even got slightly upgraded internals too.

Tl;dr, as is per usual it is what the owner makes of it. Stock and up to about 350-400hp they will have no troubles. Neglected maintenance and super-high power applications are what bring down reliability.

The true ultimate RB though is RB25-26/30 :D probably should have kept my R31 and done that experiment.

@Murcie_LP640 Maybe I was thinking of the RB26? But I have stumbled upon two RB25s with the head gasket being the one to go. I've heard of the oil pump issue though.
 
In the US, Diesel is typically more expensive than gas. Does the better economy actually make up for the price differential?

Depends on the car, really. But I suspect the Skylines and Soarers mentioned would struggle to get within 15 mpg of the diesel BMW. Particularly the later one that Famine posted, which is probably more economical than the E46 the OP was hinting at. At that sort of level, probably an improvement of a third or more, the saved fuel would more than make up for the extra cost of diesel.

-Cheap to buy - Check. Can be had with a V8 for as low as $1,000, sometimes cheaper. Prestine models with V8 stroker engines that make deep into the 400 horsepower range can be had around $4,500 without sacrificing fuel economy. In fact, it can actually help improve it.

-Real wheel drive - Check

-Coupé 4 seater - Check

-"Premium" brand - What? Check, I think. It's a Ford. Take that how you will.

-Great reliable engine - 2.3L I4 is reliable if you buy a N/A version. Turbo ones aren't really reliable. Early cars have the 2.8L Cologne V6's from the European Capri's and obviously the 302 5.0L V8 they used for 45 years...definitely reliable if they used it for that long.

-Very cheap to run (lots of mpg) - I've heard of the 2.3L getting up to 30mpg with good driving and a manual transmission. The V8 can get about 16-17mpg, maybe more.

-Very good torque - V8 puts out 300 lb-ft (year depending) stock.

-Good power and top speed - Year depending, horsepower can range from 180-220 horsepower provided you don't get an early 1980's car with a 255 4.2L V8. Top speed I've heard anywhere from 130-139mph factory stock.





A few other nice things about this car is the great aftermarket support which makes replacement and hop up parts extremely cheap. Also, the car is incredibly light, so any drivetrain or horsepower changes you will feel. These cars are stupid easy to work on and make extremely fast.
 
A new Mustang, perhaps, but not a FoxBody, no, not ever. You can't put "Premium" and FoxBody Mustang in the same sentence, unless you're talking about gasoline. Or the condoms you bought so your sister doesn't get pregnant again after the prom.

Just... no.
 
Challenge: find an eighties Mustang in Europe, where they were not sold.
